Description

mm 1929. w. M. STANBROUGH 1,739,527
LAYER FOR UPPER DENTURES Filed Aug. 22, 1927 Patented Dec. 17, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFICE LAYER r03 UPPER D'ENTURES Application filed August 22, 1927. Serial No. 214,774.
My invention relates to the disclosures made in my previous patent, Upper dental plate, patented February 19, 1924, hearing No. 1,4843%, wherein I describe a method of 5 constructing upper artificial dentures having a plurality of layers of metallic foil included in the palatine portion of the denture, which layers are susceptible of being severally removed from time to time as conditions warrant. It also relates to disclosures made in my previous patent for metallic layers for upper dentures, patented March 29, 1927,
hearing Serial No. 1,622,683, wherein I describe a method of constructing a plurality of metallic sheets for upper dentures.
The object of this invention is to disclose the method of construction of a single or multiple layer of metallic foil which will be simple to construct and use and which will be adapted to be securely fastened to the upper denture by pin rivets and also by beveling the edges of the plates of foil so that they will be surely fastened to the composition of the plate, whether rubber or otherwise.
It is a further object of my invention to construct layers for upper dentures in the manner described in my drawings so that they will be readily adaptable to the shape of the upper denture plate itself and the ma- 3() terial of the plate will at the same time be readily attachable to it by pin rivets and by having the edges of the layers beveled at an angle sloping from the inner portion of the plate to provide a gripping edge under the composition material of the denture and thereby to hold the plate more securely in position.
The construction of these plates will be better understood by reference to the accompanying drawing. Figure 1 shows a perspective plan view of my plates in position in an upper jaw plate. Figure 2 shows a cross section elevation through the plane ZZ. Figure 3 shows a perspective plan view of a preferred embodiment of one of the plates. The metallic plate P is constructed with the slot S having at the end of the slot two small holes A and A suitable for the location of pin rivets into the upper jaw plate D, which contains the rubber or composition. A plurality of plates such as P may be superimposed if necessary. The metallic plate layers are adapted to be pressed into position to conform with the conformation of the denture itself. It will be noted that the edges of the plate P and P I prefer to bevel, so that they may be more securely fastened to the composition of the plate and that I, also prefer to countersink the openings A and A.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is In an article of manufacture being a metallic foil layer for an upper denture, a single metallic foil having a slotted interior portion and having at the end of said slot, openings all as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification the 10th day of August, 1927.
WM. M. STANBR-OUGH.
