This invention "relates to cigarette making machines and particularly to a device thereof for providing cigarette sleeves with coiled paper mouth pieces.
' When a coiled paper mouth piece is passed into the cigarette sleeve from a mandrel, the same has the tendency to uncoil in the cigarette sleeve in a non-uniform manner roducing between the outer part of its winding and the inner wall of the cigarette sleeve an objectionable gap. To avoid such gaps, the cigarette sleeve must be turned in a direction opposite to that of the winding of the coil;
Formerly, this was done by hand but later a special device, known as a counter-rolling stantly bear against the base plate 3 and the device, was introduced whereby the uniform unwinding of the coil was produced automatically. To transfer the cigarette sleeve equipped with the coiled mouth piece into the counter-rolling device, presents certain difiiculties since the cigarette sleeve must enter the counter-rolling device in a certain position, to wit, parallelto the axle of .the rapidly revolving roller thereof in .order to prevent it from being torn. The cigarette sleeve must therefore e properly guided and fed after it isremoved from the mandrel, so as to be incapable of accidentallychanging a certain position to which it was once adju'sted. To this end a well-known device is used which comprises a pair ofguides forming between themselves a guide channel leading into the counter-rolling device and through which the cigarette sleeve is fed by a push member.
It has been found that this device as hitherto used is objectionable because of the great precision required in theconstruction thereof.
According to the present invention the device is considerably simplified and aifords a more positive control of the pusher in feeding the; cigarette sleeve through the guide channe v My improved device is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a side view and Fig. 2 a top planview thereof.

Thus far the construction is old. I The present inventionresides in the-particular mechanism or device for controlling the movement of the push member 6 so that from the moment it engages the cigarette sleeve in'the channel A,'it will continuously bear against the cigarette sleeve until the latter passes into the chaimel 5 or becomes engaged by the roller 4, whereby said sleeve-will be prevented from becoming accidentally dis placed from its once adjusted position. According to-m'y'invention the push member 6 is carried by a member 7 mounted on the end of a double armed lever 8 which swings around a crank pin 9 provided on a crank disc mounted on a shaft 10 driven from a shaft 11 by means of gears 12 and 13.
The free end'of the double arm lever 8 is formed to a cylindrical rod 14 slidable longi- 'tudinally in a socket 15 which is carried by a the medium of the crank in 9 the end 14 will slide longitudinally in t e socket 15 which will swing on its pm 16 as a result of which the push member 6 will describe a substantially elliptical path. Now then if the lever 17 is'also rocked as a result a composite motion will be imparted to the ush member 6 which will modify the path escribed by the member 6 under the influence of the motion im arted to it by crank pin 9 alone. The elliptical path shown in dotted lines is the one resulting from the'composite motion 1mparted, as evidenced by the full line and dotted line positions of the member 6, the .crank pin 9 and bolt 16 (Fig. 1). It is possible to increase considerably the path of the member 6 by the simple expedient of using the rock lever 17 and suitably rocking it. The 0 eration of the device is as follows: The cigarette sleeve X equipped with the mouth iece coil (not shown) is passed from a man rel m hereinbefore stated into the channel A by any suitable means so as to ex- .tend transversely therethrough, at the time the push member 6 is at its left lower position Fig. 1) about to enter the channel A from elow the guide member 2. Owing to the action of the spring a, the guide member 1 will slightly press on the cigarette sleeve X and revent it from rolling. When the push mem er 6 pro'ects into the channel during its upward stro e continuing its eliptical path it engages the cigarette sleeve X from the rear side thereby positioning it to be, parallel to the axisof the roller 4 and by pushing it forwardly feeds said sleeve parallel to itself until the latter passes into the channel 5 and is engaged by the rapidly revolving roller 4.
Thus, the control of the movement of the sleeve X is positive throughout the length of the channel A or from the instant it is insert ed into the latter until it reaches the channel 5.
' What I claim is:-
counter-rolling device and means for moving said push member in an ellipitical ath through said channel so as to constantly ear against said sleeve until the latter enters said counter-roller device, said means including a double armed lever carrying said push member, crank driving means to which said lever is fulcrumed, a rotatable socket in which the free end of said lever is longitudinally slidable and a rocking lever carrying said socket.
3. In a device of the character described the combination with a counter rolling device and a cigarette sleeve receiving channel leading into said device of a push member for feeding the cigarette sleeve from said channel into said rolling device, a lever carrying saidvpush member, crank driving means to which said lever is fulcrumed, a rotatable socket in which the free end of said'lever is longitudinall slidable and means for changing the positlon of said socket.
