My invention relates to electric safety razors of the ty e disclosed in my Patent No. 1,592,309 of uly 13, 1926, and theiobject e is to produce a light, compact and simple structure which willbe operated smoothly and powerfully by direct current with very little current consumption.
The various features of arrangement of my invention are embodied 1n the device shown on the drawing in which Fig. 1 is a plan view, Fig. 2 is an "enlarged plan view with the enclosing shell partly in section,

Fig. 5 is a section on plane 5-5 Fig. 3, and Fig. 6 is a section on plane 6-6 Fig. 3. A cylindrical electromagnet core 10 has the energizing winding 11 thereon. At its rear end the core is secured to the circular rear disk or plate 12 and its front end 13 is ofset radially and is secured to the circular front disk or plate 14 by a screw 14. The disks are in axial alinement and the core is relatively displaced radially so as to bring the surface of the winding close to one side of the cylindrical enclosing shell or grip 15 which slips over and recieves the disks, and to leave space between the winding and shell for the armature structure. This structure comprises an armature bar 16 secured at its front end to a flat spring 17 secured to the front disk 14. Preferably the spring has the reduced or necked end 17 which extends throughthe hole 18 in the disk 14 and is securely riveted in place. The armature bar extends to within a short distance of the disk 14 and is secured 4o to the spring by screws 19.
At its rear end the armature bar has the radial deflection 20 integral therewith and extending alongside of the corresponding core end, and the end 20 of this deflection is curved So as to reduce the magnetic resistance and to intimately engage along an extended area with the cylindrical core end when the armature is attracted by the energized core. The end of the armature bar swings between the cushion abutments 21 and 22 so that its .22. These abutments may be sleeves of with `the 15 enclosing shell in sectlon on plane 3-3 Fig. 1,.

Secured to the rear plate 12 by screws 25 is a block or base 26 of insulating material, and extending through this block are the terminal pins 27 and 28. At its inner end the pin 27 is vdeflected radially and then axially, the radial section 27 being received in the groove 65 29 in the block, and the axially/extending '4 section 27 b projecting beyond the inner side of .the block for connection with the inner terminal 30 ofthe winding l1. The terminal pin 28 extends into the `radial groove 31 in the block, its inner end being threaded tov receive a securing nut 32. This nut also electrically secures to the pin the base 33 of the contact spring 34 which extends inwardly and terminates ina contactv point 35 which normally is engaged by the contact pin 36 extending through but insulated fromv the armature bar, this pin being connected with the outer terminal 37 of thewinding 11. n An insulating washer 38 is inserted between the block 26 and the plate 12 to insulate the terminal' pins and contact spring from the plate, and the plate has the clearance notches 39 and 40 through which the terminal pin 27 and the contact spring 34 respectively extend.
The terminal pins are engaged by the plug of a suitable connecting cord (not shown) and when current flows and the electromagnet is energized the armature Will be attracted to withdraw the contact pin 36 from the sprmg contact 35 to open the circuit whereupon-the armature is released to reclose the circuit, the result being rapid vibration of the armature in a manner well known.
Extending axially outwardly' through the opening 41 in the front -platc 14 is the tool supporting post 42. At its inner end the ost is of reduced diameter to be recelved an secured in the sleeve 43 at the end of the extension 44 on the spring 17. With this ar- 100 rangement, when the armature is vibrated,

It may be desirable to have ythe blade supporting tool vibrate longitudinally, or transversely, or diagonally, and for supporting it in adjusted position I provide a locking spring 48 on the end 45, the spring seating against the shoulder 49 on the end 45 and in the pocket 50 of the tool stem. The tool is screwed sufficiently on to the end 45 to ccmpress the spring which will then lock the tool in the desired position for the desired vibration direction. v 1
Secured by screws 51 to the front plate 14 is the head 52 of insulatingmaterial and this head has the axial passageway 53 through which the tool post extends. At its inner end the head is threaded to detachably receive the front'threaded end of the grip shell 15.
The front end of the head is conical and at the end of the passageway 53 is the internal flange or shoulder 54 whose diameter is suiiicien'tly greater than that of the tool post to afford clearance for the post vibration. On the post is the soft rubber sleeve or bushing 55 which abuts against the shoulder 54. The external diameter of the bushing is less than the diameter of the passageway 53 so that the bushing will not interfere with the vibration of the tool post. When the post is vibrated the soft rubber will readily yield but will always seal the gap between the post and the shoulder so that water or dust cannot enter the passageway 53. v
l At its rear end the grip sleeve 15 has the internal ila-nge 56 forming the shoulder 57 and leaving the passage 58 for the terminal pins 27 and 28. To seal the grip sleeve against the entrance of dust or moisture a soft rubber washer 594 is inserted between the shoulder 57 and the block 26 and to prevent distortion of the washer when the sleeve is applied, a, thin smooth paper or metal washer GO'is interposed between the rubber washer and the block. The interior of the grip sleeve is thus fully protected against the entrance of moisture and the tool end canl be dipped into water without 'endangering the operating parts and circuits within thegrip.

I claim:
1. In an electric safety razor, the combination of end plates, an elcctrolnagnet core secured to and extending-between said plates, an armature bar parallel with said core, a spring anchored to one of said plates and secured to one end of the armature bar to support said bar or'vibration, said bar at its other end having a deflection extending transversely of the adjacent core end and being curved to lit the core end curvature when said core is energized, and a tool supporting post extending from the spring supported end of said bar to partake of the bar vibration.
2. In an electric safety razor, .the combination of circular front and rear plates, an electromagnet core extending between said plates with its axis at one side of the plate axes, said core being secured to the rear plate, said front plate having an axial opening therethrough, the core at its front end being oi'set radially and secured to said front plate, an armature bar parallel with said core,
a spring anchored to said front plate andv secured to the front end of said armature bar to support said bar for vibration, the rear end of said bar being deflected radially to extend alongside of the rear end of said core and being curved to extend partly around said core when the armature bar is attracted, and a supporting front plate opening and secured at its inner end to the front end of the armature bar to partake of the armature vibration, said post at its outer end being adapted to support a shaving tool.
3. In an electric safety razor, the'combination of a front plate having an axial opening, a rear plate, an electromagnet core secured at its rear end to said rear plate, the front end of the core being deflected axially and secured toI said front plate at one side of said axial opening, a spring anchored to and extending rearwardly from said front plate at the opposite side of said axial opening, an armature bar secured at its front endvto said spring and being deiiected at its rear end to extend alongside of the rear end of said core, a' radial extension on said spring terminating in a sleeve, a tool'supporting post secured at its rear end in said sleeve and extending through said axial opening, a winding for and an electrical circuit controlling the current flow through said winding.
4. In an electric safety razor, the combination of a front platehaving an axial opening, a rear plate, an electromagnet core having a secured at its. rear end to said rear late, the front end of said core being axial y offset and secured to the front plate at one side of said 4axial opening, an armature post extending through said 3 `structure iiexibl secured to said front plate 'at the opposite side of said axial openirg and c extending l\reaiwardly and `being de ected radially at its rear end past the rear end of said core, a radial extension at the front end Y of said armature structure, a tool supporting post secured at its rear end to said extension and projecting through said axialopening, and contact means controlling the current lo flow through said winding.
5. In an electric safety razor, the combination of frontand rear heads, said front head having an axial passageway, an electroma nethaving a core secured at its ends to said heads, an armature structure` flexibl anchored to said front head and being de ected at its rear end to be adjacentto'the rear end of said core, a tool supporting post secured to the armature structure and extending foro wardly through said axial passageway, a contact terminal on said amature structure connected with one terminal of the electromagnet winding, a terminal pin connected withthe other. terminal of said winding, a contact g5 spring supported on said rear head, a terminal pin connected with said spring, and a contact terminal on said spring cooperating with the contact terminal on said armaturev structure to control the current flow through ,o said winding.
6. In an electrical device of the class described, the combination of afgrip structure having an axial opening at its ont end, electromagnet mechanism within said structure comprising a core and energizin winding, an
