Figure 1 is an elevation of my cutter as applied to a mandrel. Fig. 2 is a plan of the cutter-wheel. Fig. 3 is a section through the cutter-wheel. Fig. 4 is a plan of the rand guard or guide.
Let A represent the mandrel, made in any suitable style and size. B is a steel wheel, made in the form Shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. The periphery of this wheel is divided, by a series of spiral grooves, E E E, into diagonal sections, the edges of these lands being ground 1 The periphery of the disk (J forms a guide to run in therand, and also a guard to prevent the cutters from injuring the upper of the boot or shoe. The disk 0 is perforated, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, at 0 c 0 c. The perforations c c c c coincide with the grooves E E E E,'so that the chips may freely pass out. This cutter is intended to be used as a substitute for the one I have been using on the machine described in Letters Patent granted to me November 7, 1865, and numbered 50,856.
I claim as my invention- 1. The cutter-head B, constructed with spiral grooves E and diagonal sections D, the edges of which are adapted to cut or trim the sole or heel edges of a boot or shoe, all substantially as shown, for the purpose described.
