Description

Dec. 3, 1929. R E RIASSER 1,738,264
DISPLAY DEVICE Filed May 18. 1928 5m mau TAX DED Sfide-anto@ w, v @thou/w14 Patented Dec. 3, 1929 y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ROSS E. RISSER, F BONHAM, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR TO SOUTHWEST PUMP COMPANY, 0F BONHAM, TEXAS, A CORPORATION OF TEXAS DISPLAY DEVICE Application. filed May 18,
This invention pertains to new and usei'ul improvements in display devices.
Une object of the invention is to provide a display device which may be readily attached to an open mesh support, in an improved and substantial manner.
A 'further object olE the invention is to provide a hanger, capable of adjustment, which may be secured at any desired point on the open mesh support, and when once placed in position, cannot be easily displaced and which will be rigidly held in place.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a holder for a changeable exhibitor arranged to be removably mounted on the hanger, so that the exhibitor cannot be removed from the holder.
A construction designed to carry out the invention will be hereinafter described, together with other features of the invention.
he invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specification and by reference to the'accompanying drawings, in which an example of the invention is shown and wherein:
Fig. 1 is an elevation of an open mesh support having mounted thereon a display de vice constructed in accordance with the invention,
Fig. 2 is a view of the display device and the support, partly in elevation and partly in section,
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line SW3 of Fig. 2,
Fig. A is a horizontal cross-sectional view taken on the line lr--ll of Fig. 3, and
Fig. 5 is a detail of a guard strip for the frame.
In the drawings the numeral designates an elongated mounting strip and 11 an elongated locking strip telescoping into inclined flanges 12 along the edges of the mounting strip. Each strip has at its outer end a central tongue 13 offset rearwardly from a pair of lugs 1a between which it is located.
The strips are preferably made of comparatively heavy gauge sheet metal so that the parts are readily bent to shape, but they may be formed of other material. On its lower end the locking strip 11 has an outwardly 19'28. Serial No. 278,862.
bent step 15, notched to receive the flanges 12. The strips 10 and 11 constitute a hanger and in applying it to an open mesh support, such as a guard cylinder A for a liquid dispenser, the tongue 13 of the mounting strip 1() is engaged in one of the meshes. When said tongue is engaged in the said mesh, the component lugs 111 will rest .upon the 'wires ofthe meshes, while the tongue will engage under the said wires, thereby affording a secure support.
The locking strip 11 needs to be adjusted on the strip 1() so the tongue 13 at the upper end will engage in a mesh and the lugs will overlie the mesh wires. This can be readily accomplished by holding the strip 10 with one hand and pushing upwardly on the step 15 with the other hand. The meshes may be slightly out of vertical alinement. To hold the strips in their adjusted positions, notches 16 are provided in the strip 10 for receiving bosses 17 on the strip 11, thus forming a lock.
The rectangular frame 18 of a holder has lateral vertical flanges 19 along its rear edge which is slotted so that two platds of glass 20 or the like with an exhibitor plate 21 therebetween, may be slid into the frame. The exhibitor may be a sheet of cardboard, metal or other material, having the display on each side which it is desired to exhibit.
The holder is mounted on the hanger by sliding or telescoping the flanges 19 into the flanges 12 and resting the frame 18 on the step 15.` Then the holder is mounted on the `hanger the slotted back of said holder will be closed by the strip 11 and the flanges 19 engaging in the inclined flanges 12 will force the two strips together, whereby a compact and substantial structure will be had. This engagement will lock the bosses 17 in the notches 16.
The device will be rigidly and prominently secured on the cylinder A and is easily and quickly placed or removed.` Then it is desired to change the exhibitor 21, the holder may be slipped from the hanger and another exhibitor easily substituted.
In Fig. 5 a guard strip 22 is shown inserted within the flanges 12 and between the locking strip l1 and the frame flanges 19.
Such a strip will tend to more firmly hold the parts in their locked position. An outwardly directed lip 23 at the top of the strip 22 overhangs the frame and excludes Water from passing down' the rear of the frame and into its slot. A
Various changes in' the size and shape of the diferent'parts, as Well as modifications and alterations, may be made within the scope Vof the appended claims,
What I claim, is:
l. In a display device, a. hanger having means for mounting it in the meshes of an open mesh support and including a longitudinal member with a step at one end, and a display holder adapted to rest upon said step and having an interlocking flange engaging said member.
2. The display7 device defined by claim @2"0 1, and means for locking the hanger in posiv 151011 upon said support. l
3. Thevdisplay ydevice defined by claim l in which the display holder is provided with an opening for inserting an exhibitor sheet disposed next said member. y
4. In a display device, a. hanger including telescoping strips having meshV engaging elements at their ends,a display holder, and
` means for slidably interlocking said holder With one of the hanger strips. y
' 5. In aY display device, a hanger comprising longitudinally adjustable members having means at their outer ends for mounting in the meshes of an open mesh support, and a display holder having means to slidably interlock with one hanger member so as to be removed therefrom without dislodging said hanger. Y
6. In a display device, a. mounting strip having longitudinal flanges, a locking strip telescoping the flanges of the mounting strip,
c'uring the same in adjusted positions.
10. In a display device, a mounting strip vhaving longitudinal flanges, a locking strip telescoping the flanges of the mounting strip, each strip having a mesh engaging tongue at its outer end, a display holder including a frame having lateral flanges slidable into the flanges of the mounting strip, and a guard strip inserted between the locking strip and the holder frame and having a lip overhanging the rear of the frame.
l1. In a display device, a hanger including telescoping strips, means upon the abutting faces of said strips for locking them in adjusted position, a display holder, and means for slidably interlocking said holder with one of the hanger strips.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
ROSS E. RISSER.
