This invention relates to display device. and container for material to be both displayed and stored. The display device is of the type adapted to form a-unit container. These units are adapted to be arranged close ly adjacent each other so as to display and store different material, each kind being placed in an individual unit.

The invention has for its object the production of unit containers which are adapted to display material on sale either by the placin of the unit containers themselves on a ta le or by placing them within a show case. Another object of the invention is to so construct a display device that the material can be readily removed from the device for the purposes of cleaning the device or changing the material to be displayed. Another object of the device is to provide a rear door therefor which is easily detachable therefrom and also which is provided with weight means to hold the door either closed or open.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming part of this specilication, in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a cabinet having nine of the display units, the subject of this invention, assembled therein.

This invention is an improvement over the device disclosed in U. S. Patent 1,582,703

granted April 27, 1926, in the name of Stryher, and while the general purpose of the in vention is substantially the same as that of this patent, namely, to simulate a full supply of material on hand and for sale while not necessarily having a full supply on hand in the storage part of the display device, yet the present invention shows many advantages and improvements not disclosed therein.

The display device is made up of suitable material, preferably sheet metal and comprises sides 1, 2, a top 3, a bottom 4, and a front 5 The top 3 and the front 5 are depressed from the top and front edges of the device so as to form a top recess 6, a front recess 7 and a storage chamber 70.

transparent top cover 1% is formed of a glass plate which has its edges protected by a metal frame 15 and sometimes open at the rear (see Fig. 6) and which has depending flanges 16 along its side edges spaced apart sufficiently to easily take within the sides 1, 2 of the device. The front edge of the top cover it lies in contact with the top edge of the transparent cover 10 so as to exclude dust from the device.

A clip 1'? has a door 18 mounted thereon by means of spring hinges l9 tending to close the door when the clip and door are mounted in place on the rear lip 13 on the bottom 4 of the device. On the door ltl is fixed a weight means or dehumidifier 20. This dehumidifier comprises a chamber container for deliquescent material which removes moisture from the air within the main storage chamber 70 of the device. The weight means 20 is so located with reference to the hinge axis that its center of gravity is respectively forward or rearward when the door is closed or open so that it will then tend to remain in those positions.

The detail shown in Fig. l is a modification of the frame portion of the top cover lot ' and the front and also in the top recess 1.4, the depending flanges 16 in this case being bent back upon themselves for strength.

The modification shown in Figs. 5 and 6 is merely that of a device having a straight front instead of an inclined front.

It Will be seen that when the front cover of the device is in place, material may be filled in the front recess 7 between the front cover 6 after which the top cover 14 may be put in place. The storage part of the device may then be filled with a supply of material from which material sold may be taken from time to time. This material is readily accessible through the rear door which when open will stay open and which when closed will stay closed, by reason of the weight means comprising a dehumidifier 20.

It will also be clearly seen that when a unit 'is to be removed it can he slid back without disturbing adjacent units, the top cover 14 then removed and the front cover 10 slid upwardly a short distance so as to allow all the material in the front recess 7 and the top recess 6 to flow out of the opening produced by raising the front cover this slight amount. Any material remaining in the storage chamber 70 can of course be poured out through the rear opening.

,It will be clearly seen from Figs. '1 and 2 that this display device may be grouped in a seriesof units arranged closely side by side and will appear to a purchaser to show afull supply of material on'hand when as a matter of fact there may not be very much material in the storagechamber of the display device. It will also be clear that the cabinet shown in Figs. 1 and 2 may be in the form of a glass showcase or it may be merely a skeleton cabinet, the units themselves being entire- 1y closed-in to keep the material dlsplayed in good condition in spite of dust and dirt in the surrounding atmosphere. It will also be clear that these units may be arranged in a closed form of showcase.
