IMPROVEMENT IN TIRE-HEATERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,821, dated February 22, 1876; application filed August 30, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY B. SLoE, of Cad- Wallader, in the county of Tuscarawas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tire-Heaters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled inthe art to whichit per tains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specitication.

My invention relates to improvements in tire-heating machines; and consists in the combination, with the furnace and heatingchamber, of a triangular or V shaped frog placed in the heating-chamber over the throat or flue of the furnace, for the purposes hereinafter described.

A is the furnace. B is the chamber in which the tires are placed while being heated. chamber is closed by suitable doors. C is the frog. It is made V shape, with the win gs a a extending upward within and along the side walls of the chamber B. It is placed over the throat of the furnace A, so as to close the latter and prevent a direct upward outlet for the flame and heat. It is placed near the side walls of the chamber B, so as t-o provide the side dues or throats b b. Its point c is arranged centrally over the furnace, so that the This vf heat, as it ascends, will be equally divided and carried through the throats b b into the chamber B. It does not interfere with the proper placing of tires in the chamber B by reason of its concave upper surface, and it protects the tires from becoming unduly heated at the side next the'furnace.

In the ordinary heaters the tires become first hot in those portions next the due, and have to be turned by hand or suitable cranks and rollers to secure the heat-ing of the Whole.

. This process is tedious, requires extra labor,

and does not secure an even heat.

In my device the lower portion of the tire is protected from direct application of the heat. The latter is carried off to the sides, and rises and disseminates equally throughout the whole chamber B, and heats the whole tire at the same time. I am enabled to employ a much hotter fire than can be done in the ordinary heaters, and thereby securea much quicker heating of the tires.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-- The combination, with the furnace A-and chamber B, of the frog C, constructed as described. substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
