This invention relates to punch machines and more particularly toa device which will permit a` quick adjustment of the machine to vaccommodate dierent requirements.
5 One of the objects of the present invention is to provide an improved punching machine which can be easily and quickly adjusted to 'meet the various requirements to which a machine of this type may be putwith the least expenditure of time on the part of the operator.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved means for detachably securing the punch blocks in various positions of adjustment.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved detachable clamping member for securing the punch block in various positions of adjustment.
20 A still further objectof the invention is to provide a generally improved construction by means of which the punch blocks and the clamping members may quickly and easily be removed from the machine.
These and other objects are accomplished by providing a vconstruction and an arrangement of the various parts in the manner hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a portion of a. punching machine showing my improvement embodied therein.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on the lines 2 2 in Fig. 1 and looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.

In illustrating one embodiment of my invention I have only shown that portion of a 'punching machine nesessary to a complete understanding of my invention.
In carrying out my invention I preferably employ a transverse base member 1() which is mounted on and secured to a stand (not shown) which is in the form of legs secured thereto in any well known manner. This base member 10 extends transversely of the o inforce or strengthen the base member 10.
The upper side of the base member 10 is provided with linished surfaces 12 and 13 arranged on the opposite sides of the slot 11 and extending substantially throughout the entire length of the base member. The base member is provided with an acute angle shoulder 14 which is positioned adjacent the finished surface 12 so as to formsubstantially a dove tailed channel which is adapted for the reception of a plurality of punch blocks 15. This dove tailed channel extends substantially throughout the length ofthe base member 10. The punch blocks 15 are provided on their lower end as shown at 16 with a dove tailed portion which has finished surfaces corresponding to the finished surfaces 12, 13 and 14 of the base member 10 so as to secure a snug fitting connection between the punch blocks and the base member 10. From this construction it will be noted that these blocks 15 may be adjusted transversely of the' punching machine inthe dove tailed channel of the base member 10 and are detachably secured 'in predetermined positions of adjustment by my improved clamping member 17 which is provided with a bore 18 which in turn permits the clamping member 17 to be adj ustably mounted on a transversely extending shaft 19. The shaft 19 is positioned in the recessed portion 2O formed in the base memberI 10 removable secured in apertures 21 on the opposite sides of the machine formed in the end walls 22 of the base member 10. The shaft 19 is prevented from removal from the base member 10 by a set screw 23 which is in threaded engagement with one of the walls 22 of the base member 10 as shown in Fig. 3. The clamping member 17 is provided, adjacent its upper end, with a bevelled projecting portion 24 which is adapted to engage a bevelled portion 25 formed on one side of the dove tailed portion 16 of the punching block 15. The clamping member 17 is provided with a laterally extended arm 26 which in turn is provided with a threaded aperture 27 adjacent its outer end. The aperture 27 is adapted to receive in threaded engagement therewith a thumb screw 28. The lower end of the thumb screw 28 is adapted to engage the lower or horizontal leg 29 of tlie base member 10 as shown at 30. From the above description it will be noted that when the punching block l has been adjusted to its predetermined position and the bevelled p01- tion 24 of the clamping member 17 is positioned to engage the bevelled surface 25 of the dove tailed portion 16 of the punching block 15 the thumb screw 28 may be turned in a clockwise direction thereby swinging the arm 26 of the clamping member 17 upwardly about its pivot on the shaft 19 and thereby clamping the block 15 in the dove tailed channel of the base member 10. Extending transvcrsely of the punching machine and secured member is a scale 31. The scale 31 is provided with graduations in inches as. shown atl 32 by means of which the punching blocks may be adjusted to meet various requirements in spacing them atA uniform intervals. The outer ends of the scale 31 are provided with cutaway portions as shown at 33 which permits the removal of the clamping members when they are slid transverselyV of the machine along the dove tailed channel in the base member 10 to a point adjacent these cutaway portions 33. When the outer ends are brought adjacent these cutaway portions 33 in the scale 31, the clamping members may be tilted forwardly in a direction to release the dove tailed portion 16 from the channel and then removed. It will of course be understood that should it become necessary to edd additional punch blocks in order to place the perforations at closer intervals this may be readily done by inserting these punch blocksin the dove tailed channel of the base member 10 adjacent the cutaway portion 33 of the scale 31. If it is found necessary to remove or add any of the clamping members 17 this is done by loosening the set screw 23 and moving the shaft 19 longitudinally from one of its supports in the aperture 21 in the end portions 22 of the base member 10 sufficient to permit the removal or replacenient o-f a clamping member 17. This is done by placing a tool or a nail in the aperture 34 ,formed in one Gnd of the shaft projecting from the side of the machine and then by withdrawing the shaft, a clamping member may be readily removed or placed on the shaft to meet the requirements of the operator.
In order to facilitate the removal of the clamping members 17 I have provided alongitudinally movable table 35 which is mounted on clamping brackets 36. These clamping brackets 36 embrace and slidingly engage longitudinal shafts 37 which are secured to the end portions 22 of the base member 1() in any well known manner. The sliding table 35 is secured in position by thumb screws 38 which are in threaded engagement with the brackets 36 and are adapted to engage the shafts 37. In order to insure the proper alignment of the adjustable table 35 with respect to the scale 31 and base member 10'I have provided sockets 39 which are adapted to detachably receive dowelpiiis 40 secured in the scale member 31 in any well known manner as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
The punch blocks 15 are of a goose-neck construction and are Vprovided with the usual perforating dies 41 secured in any well known manner to the vertical disposed apertures 42 formedin the lower ends of said blocks. Cooperating with the dies 41 in the upper ends of said blocks are the usual punch pins43 which are formed integrally with or secured to the reciprocating punchmembers 44. The upper end of the punch members44 are provided with the recessed portions as-shown at 45 which are adapted to engage and be reciprocated by atransversereciprocating bar 46 of well known construction. Froni the foregoing description and operation it will be readily understood that I have provided an improved construction in which the number of punch `blocks may be increased or reduced and the clamping means for se- Y curing these punch blocks inposition may be correspondingly increased or yreduced with great facility and ease and at a considerable saving of time to the operator making these adjustments. j

1. A punching machine comprising a base,

a shaft rigidly mounted on said' base and gageable with said base and punch block for securing said punch block to said base.
2. A punching machine comprising a base, a punch block detachably secured to said base, a shaft rigidly mounted on said base and clamping means pivotally and slidably mounted on said shaft engageable with said punch block for securing said punch block to said base.
3. A punching machine comprising a base, a punch block detachably secured to said base, a shaft mounted on said base, detachable clamping means pivotally mounted on said shaft and engageable with said punch block, and means carried by said clamping means and co-operable with said base for securing said block to said base.
4. A punching machine comprising a base, a punch block detachably secured to said base, a shaft rigidly secured to said base, a clamping member pivotally mounted on said shaft and having adjustable means associated therewith and co-operable with said base in a manner to rock said member on said shaft for securing said block to said base.
5. A punching` machine comprising a base, a punch block slidably mounted in said base, a shaft removably mounted in said base and extending transversely thereof, and a clamping member slidingly mounted on said shaft and having one end engageable with said block and the other end thereof engageable with said base by means of a thumb screw for clamping said block to said base.

a punch block slidably mounted in said base, a horizontally disposed shaft having its end portions removably mounted in said base, a clamping member slidingly mounted on said shaft and having one end engageable with said block and the other end thereof engageable with said base by means of a thumb screw for clamping said block to said base and means whereby said block and said clamping member may be removed.
7. A punching machine comprising a base member having a channel formed therein, punch blocks slidingly mounted in said ychannel, a shaft mounted on said base, means loosely mounted on said shaft and positioned to one side of said channel in a manner to engage and clamp said blocks in said channel and means whereby said blocks may be ree moved from or inserted in said channel.
8. A punching machine comprising a base member having a channel formed therein, a scale secured to said base and forming one of the sides of said channel, punch blocks mounted in the channel in said base, a shaft mounted in said base adjacent and extending substantially parallel to said channel and clamping members for each of said blocks mounted on said shaft and engageable with said blocks for securing said blocks to said base.
9. A punching machine comprising a base member having a channel formed therein, a punch block mounted on said base, a scale secured to said base and forming one of the sides of said channel in said base, and means for clamping said block to said base, said .-0 scale having a cutaway portion whereby said block may be removed or inserted.
