rThis invention relates to a ticket vending` machine which is mainly designed for use in moving picture theatres and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby a person may secure a ticket by inserting the proper amount of change in the device and pushing one or two slides, which operate the feeding means for feeding a ticket through a discharge opening so that a person can secure a ticket without the use of a ticket seller.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for preventing operation of the slides until the change is inserted in the de- 5 vice, with means for rendering one slide inoperative when the ticket is of such a price as to be covered by a single coin.
This invention also consists in certain other` features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in t-he accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In these views, the numeral 1 indicates a housing from the top of which depends the hangers 2,3 and 4. A roll carrying a ticket strip 5 is rotatably supported in the hanger 2 and feed rollers 6 'and 7 are rotatably supported by the hangers 3 and 4, these feed rollers acting` to feed the ticket strip through a chute 8 depending` from the top of the housing and opening through said top.

disk 9 which is engaged by the pawl 10 pivoted to the hanger 4 and acting to prevent retrograde movement of the roller and a second pawl 11 is pivoted to an arm 12 which is pivoted to a part of the hanger 4 so that when the arm is moved against the action of its spring 13, the roller 7 and therefore the roller 6 will be given a partial turning movement which will act to feed a part of the strip through the chute 8, to project a single ticket thereon through the opening. The spring 13 will then move the arm 12 back to its original position, the pawl 10 preventing movement of the rollerr? and the pawl 11 ratcheting over the disk. 65
A casing 14 is arranged in the front part of the housing and the sides and front of .this casing' are formed by parts of the sides and front of the housing. The bottom of the casing extends beyond the front of the housing to form a shelf 15 and a pair of openings 16 yare formed in the bottom of the casing so that coins will drop through said openings into a drawer 17 slidably arranged in the bottom of the housing under the casing and which is provided with a lock 18 for holding it in closed position. An opening 19 is formed in the front of the casing and this opening is closed by a plate 20 which is fastened to the front of the housing by screws or the like and the lower part of the plate is provided with the slots 21, one of which is larger than the other. The bottom of the casing forms the lower walls of said slots.
A pair of slides 22 and 23 is slidably arranged in the bottom of the casing and project through the slots 21 with their outer ends turned downwardly to form the handles 24. Each slide is provided with a circular 9 opening 25, the opening in one slide being larger th an the opening in the other slide and a spring 26 acts to hold each slide in its forward position with the opening 25 partly visible from the outside of the housing so that a coin can be readily passed through each slot 21 and placed in the opening, the coin resting upon the bottom of the casing so that when the slide is pushed inwardly when the opening 25 registers with the opening 26, the coin will drop through the opening 16 into the drawer. The inner ends of the slides pass through slots formed in the rear of the casing and the slide 22 is so arranged that when it is pushed inwardly, its rear end will strike the arm 12 to swing the same away from the casing and thus actuate the ratchet means to causethe feeding roillers to belmoved to cause a ticket onthe strip to passfrom the housing. The slot 27 in the rear wall of the casing for the slide 23 has a sloping upper wall so that the said slide can be tilted when it is desired to free the ear 28 on the slide 22 from either notch 29 in the slide 23. Before this can be done, it will be necessary to remove the plate 20. When the ear 28 engages the front notch 29, the slide 23 will be inoperative, Vas it will be in such a position that a coin cannot beinserted in its opening 25, but when the ear is in the rear notch 29, coins can be placed-in both openings 25 and the slides will move together.
In order to prevent the slides from being fully actuated unless coins are placed in their openings 25, I provide spring plungers 30, one for each slide, the plungers operating in cylinders 31 supported above the slides by the brackets 32 which connect the cylinder with the sides of the casing, with the springs 33 in the cylinders. Thus when either slide is moved to a position where the opening 25 will come under a plunger, the spring of the plunger will depress the same into the opening and thus prevent further movement of the slide. This will prevent the arm 12 being operated by the slide 22. The lower part of each plunger is beveled, as at 34, so that when this beveled part is engaged by the rear wall of an opening 25, the plunger will be pushed upwardly to permit the solid part of the slide to pass under the'same.
F rom the foregoing it will be seen that when a person wishes to secure a ticket and the price of the ticket is such that it will require two coins to pay for the same, ,the large coin is placed through the large slot 21 into the large opening 25 of the slide 22 and a smaller coin is passed through the small slot 21 into a small opening 25 of the slide 23. Then either slide is pushed upon, .it being understood that both slides move together on account of the ear 28 engaging the rear notch 29 and as the slides move inwardly, the plungers 30 ride over the coins and thus do not interfere with the inward movement of the slides. The rear end of the slide 22 will strike the arm 12 and thus cause it to operate the feeding rollers 6 and 7 to feed a ticket strip through the chute 8 and thus enable the customer to secure a ticket.
As the coins pass over the openings 16, the
Vcoins will dropthrough such openings into the drawer 17 and then the spring 26 will return the slides to their normal forward position. During this return movement of the slides,the plungers will be raised as the rear walls of the openings 25 engage the beveled walls 34 of the plungers. Upstanding ears Y 35 on the slides will engage the plungers on the forward movement of the slides and thus bring said slides to rest.
If the ticket is of such a price that but one coin lis necessary, then the `plate 2O is removed and the slide 23 tilted to free the ear 23 `from the rear slot 29 and then the slide 23 is pushed inwardly to place the slot 29 over the ear 28, thus rendering the slide 23 inactive as its opening 25 will be so positioned that a coin cannot be placed therein. Then the device is used with but the single slide 22.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will he readily apparent.
It is to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the com.- bination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A vending device comprising a pair of :0in slides, means for preventing movement of the slides unless a coin is placed in an opening in each slide and means for detachably connecting the slides together in either one of twopositions, thereby rendering one of the slides ineiijective for locking said vending device.
2. A vending device comprising a casing, having a horizontal part therein forming a slide receiving surface, a slide having an opening therein for receiving a coin, the surface upon which the slide is movably mounted having an opening therein through which the coin will drop when the opening in the slide comes over the second opening, a spring pressed plunger arranged above the slide and entering the coin opening at the initial movement of the slide for limiting such movement, said plunger sliding over a coin placed in the coin opening, spring means for holding the slide in its outward position, means for limiting the forward movement of the slide and a second slide having a coin opening therein, said second slide having a pair of notches therein, an ear on the rst slide for engaging either notch and means whereby the second slide can be tilted to adjust the same relative to the iirst slide to place the ear in either notch, thereby7 rendering one of the slides ineffective for locking said vending device. A ticket vending machine comprising a casing having coin slots in its front, a hori- Zontal member in the casing having a pair of openings therein, a pair of slides movably engaging the surface, each slide having a coin receiving opening therein which is moved over the openings in the horizontal member when the-slides are pushed inwardly, a spring plunger arranged over each slide and engaging the upper faces thereof, said plungers entering the coin openings at the initial movement of the slides to prevent further movement thereof, the plungers sliding over the coins placed in the openings, one slide having a pair of notches therein, an ear on the other slide for engaging either notch, means whereby one Slide can he tilted to perb` mit said slide to be moved relative to the other to place the ear in either notch, thereby rendering one of the slides ineective for locking said vending device, spring means for holding the slides in their normal outward position and stops for limiting the outward movement of the slides.
