This invention relates to grinding or masticating hogsutilizing a double disk or V shaped grinding wheel cooperating with a pair of fixed anvil knives so arranged as to to the faces of the rotating disk, and has for its object to provide ,a' yielding anvil knife dooror carrier held by breakable 'members, wherebythe carrier may swing back from the rotating disk a predetermined distance to of metal or relatively hard foreign material topass through the machine. In other words the invention has for its object to provide a simple and eflicient safety device forvthe protectionof the hog or mastiundue resistance between the rotary and fixed knives should be encountered.
With the construction'of the invention, the anvil knife door or carrier may yield or swing away from the rotating disk sufiiciently far to permita piece ofm'aterial of maximum size, such a'sfor example 12" x 12 x to pass through the machine without injury thereto orto the driving mechanism thereof.

In a masticating or grinding hog, a suitable frame, a rotating V-shaped cutter therein, a shaft journaled on and extending transversely of said frame, asecond cutter of V- shape carried by said shaft and intermesh ing with the rotating cutter, means for pre-" venting the second cutter from moving in one. direction, and breakable lugs to prevent movement of the'secondcutter in the oppo site direction. 7 g

In a masticating or grinding hog, a suit.- able frame, a rotating cutter therein, a shaft journaled on and extending transversely .of the frame, a second cutter carried bysaid, shaft for cooperating with the rotatingcut ter, arms carried by said shaft, stop lugs on the frame for contacting with said arms for preventing movement of the second cutter in one direction, and breakable plates coopera ating with the arms in preventing movement of said cutter in the opposite direction.

In a masticating or grinding hog, a suitablefframe, a rotating cutter therein, a shaft journaled on and extending transversely of v g V, the frame and'proje'cting beyond the sides thereof, a'fsecond cutter carried by said shaft for cooperating with the rotating cutter, a pair ofarms extending from the projecting ends of said shaft, a stop lug for contacting with the arms to prevent movement thereof in one direction, and breakable plates carried by the fra mes for preventing movementof the arms in theopposite direction.
