This invention relates to wood trimming or edging machines and more particularly to machines for severing the rough edges from objects, such as barrel staves.
An object of the invention is to provide a machine of this type wherein a plurality of superimposed barrel staves or other flat longitudinal members may be trimmed along their edges in a single operation.
Further the invention provides means whereby the completed staves are caused to fall upon a chute from whence they are discharged into a suitable receptacle placed to one side of the machine.
The inventionalso contemplates a stave trimmer whereby the staves may be expeditiously trimmed, is safe to operate and can be operated by an unskilled workman.
With the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing,

Referring to the invention in detail a cast metal frame 5 embodying supporting legs 6 from which vertical standards 7 arise and are connected together by horizontally extending T beams, is provided.
At their upper ends these standards are formed with a pair of horizontally aligned arms 8 in which a shaft 9 is journaled, the latter carrying a large pinion 10 which is engaged by a drive pinion 11 fixed to a drive shaft 12 journaled in bearings 13 secured to the inner ends of the arms. A drive pulley 14: engaged by a drive belt 15 driven from an suitable source of power is fixed to the drive shaft at one end. A fly wheel 16 is also fixed to rotate with the drive shaft.

As'illustrated in Figure 2 theseknives have their cutting edges disposed'abo've the frame and each is detachablyheld by'fastenings20; ,An' angularly'disposed chute or apron 21 is secured to the under face of thebrackets or extensions with'one end projecting -beyond the frame 5 to catchand discharge the staves to one side of the machine as-they fall thru the frame 18 after the cutting operation.
-A pair of'reciprocable rods 22 carrying heads 23 at their lower ends are mounted in guides 24 projecting forwardly from the standards. These heads are located in vertical alignment with the knives at the ends thereof to engage the ends of a number of superimposed staves resting upon the knives.
