This invention relatesto portable electric lamps and has for its object a particularly simple and efficient and compact construction, whereby the parts are held in assembled position and also means by which the body` and the lamp guard are grounded and also means by which the cable enclosing the service wires is so` connected to the lamp socket that the wires are relieved of mechanical tension in the ordinary use of the lamp.

The invention consists in the novel features and in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.

Figure 1 is an elevation of this portable lamp.

This portable lamp comprises generally, a body, a lamp socket, a handle, means for securing the lamp socket to the body and additional means for securing the handle to the body, also a guard including'a section rigid with the body and a section movably connected to the handle securing means, the body and the handle securing means enclosing the lamp socket and a portion of the handle and a. grounding conductorelectrically connected to the body and to the ground wire of the cable which extends lengthwise through the handle, the grounding conductor also having means for gripping the cable to relieve the wires of mechanical tension.

1 designates the body which is of metal, it being semi-circular in cross section and having a semi-cylindrical recess in which the lamp socket 2 is located and also having a larger substantially semi-cylindrical recess 3 at its lower or outer end in which an enlarged head 4 ot the handle 5 is located. lThe lamp socket 2 may be .of any suitable form, size and tu construction.

The means for securing the lamp socket to the body, as here shown comprises a met-al strap 6 semi-circular in general outline and having outwardly turned lugs 7 at its ends which are secured, as by screws 8, in shallow recesses 9 in the edge of the body 1, the strap lying in a peripheral groove 10 in the lamp socket body 2. The means for securing the handle to the body is complemental to the body and comprises a semi-cylindrical sleeve 11 having rencesses comnlemental to the recesses 2*x and 3 of the body, the sleeve 11 being clamped toward the body on the handle by screws 12 extending through holes in lugs 3 on the semi-circular sleeve 11 and threading 65 into holes 14 in lugs 15 on the body.

The body 1 isformed with a guard section 16 integral therewith, this being in the form of a cage and having a stud 17 at its outer `end to which is secured a hook 18 by means 70 of which the lamp may be hung on any suitable support.

19 is a guard section complemental to the section 16 but in the form of a reflector, the guard section 19 being movably connected as 75 a hinge pin 20 to the semi-circular sleeve The guard section has a semi-circular notch 21 at its outer end for fitting around the base of the stud 17 and with a lip 22 around 80 the notch. A fastening member as a wing nut 23 is movable lengthwise of the stud 17 and has an annular flange 24 for skirting the lip 22 and holding the guard' section 19 in its normal osition. By unscrewing the wing nut 23, t e guard section 19 can be swung on its pivot to open the guard and permit the removal and replacement of the lamp 25.

This lamp is particularly advantageous in that it consists of a few compactly arranged parts which provide means for grounding the metallic parts ot the lamp as the lamp body, guard etc.

`What I claim is:

1. A portable electric lamp comprising abody, a lamp socket, a handle, the body partly enclosing the lamp socket and the'handle, means for securing the lamp socket to the body, means for securing the handle to the body, the latter means being complemental to the body and enclosing the lamp socket and the handle and covering the lamp socket securing means, and means for clamping the handle securing means to lthe body.

3. A portable electric lamp comprising a body, a lamp socket, a handle, the body partly enclosing the lamp socket and the handle, means 'for securing the lamp socket to the body, means for securing the handle to the body, the latter means being complemental to the body and' enclosing the lamp socketand the handle and covering the lamp socket securing means, means for clamping the handle securing means to the body and a lamp guard including a portion rigid with the body and a portion carried by the handle securing means. v

4. A portable electric lamp comprising a body, a lamp socket, a handle, means for securing the lamp socket to the body and additional means for securing the handle to the body, the body and the handle securing means being complemental to each other and enclosing the lamp socket and a portion of the handle, the lamp socket securing' means comprising a strap secured at its ends to the body with its intermediate portion encircling the lamp socket.

5. A portable electric lamp comprising a body, a lamp socket, a handle, a cable comprising Wires connected to the lamp socket terminals and a grounding wire the cable extending into the handle and a conductor for grounding the body connected to the grounding Wire, said conductor being located within the body and the handle, and securing the socket to the body.

6. A portable electric lamp comprising a. body, a lamp socket, a handle, a cable having wires connected to wire terminals of the lamp socket and means connecting the body and the cable to relieve the wires of tension, said means being located Within the body and the handle.

7. A portable electric lamp comprising a body, a .lamp socket, a handle, means for se curing the handle to the body, a cable extend- 'ing lengthwise through the handle and embodying wires connected to the lamp socket terminals and a grounding Wire, a conductor housed Within the body and said securing means and electrically connected to the ground wire and to the body of the lamp.

8. A. portable electric lamp comprising a body, a lamp socket, a handle, means for securing the lamp socket and the handle to the body, a cable extending lengthwise through the handle and embodying wires connected to the lamp socket terminals and a grounding Wire, a conductor housed within the body and said securing means and electrically connected to the ground wire and to the bod of the lamp, the conductor having means or gripping the cable withinethe handle.

9. A portable electric lamp comprlsing a body, an electric lamp socket with suitable terminals, a handle, the body partly enclosing the lamp socket and the handle, a metal strap for securing the lamp socket to the body and having its ends secured to the body, a cable extending lengthwise through the handle and having wires for connection to the wire terminals of the socket and a grounding wire, a grounding conductor connected to the strap and to the ground wire and means for securing the handle to the body, said means being complemental to the body and enclosing the handle and the socket and covering said strap and contiguous portion of the grounding conductor.
