LOCK
Filed Feb. 2, 1926 3 Sheets-Sheet 3 5.771 Bwlmeml /NveNTm Patented Nov. 12, 1929 UNITED STATES SEHEIN MOHAMED BULMENI, OF BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA LOCK Application led February 21926. Seria1 No.y85,558.
The present invention relates to locks and more particularly to a lock having a special type of key for opening the lock. One of the objects of the invention is to produce a lock which will be burglar-proof and at the same time of cheap construction.
Another object of the invention is to provide a special type of key for opening the lock.
The invention will be understood from the Lfollowing description taken in `connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
F ig. 1 is an elevation of the lock mechanism in one position with a portion of the lock casing removed.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to F ig. 1, the mechanism being in another position.
Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic illustration of indicating mechanism used in conjunction with the lock.
Figs. 4 and 5 are true views of the special key used in connection with the lock.
Referring to the drawings, the lock mechanism is enclosed in a casing 1 which may be secured to a door, window, box, or any desired closure, apertures 2 being provided to secure the casing in its position by means of screws, rivets or the like. Secured to the casing is a pin 3 serving as a guide for a loc-k 3U bolt 5 which is provided with a longitudinal slot 4 through which the pin 3 passes. To n further secure the bolt 5 to the pin 3 a washer 6 and nut 7 are provided.
The outer end of the bolt 5 has a hook-like projection 8 as shown in the drawing. On one side ofthe bolt 5 are cut a number of teeth 9 fori'ning a rack thereon. Disposed to this side of the bolt and mounted on a pin 10 is a toothed segment 11 which engages a pinion 13, which in turn engages the rack 9. The segment 11 has a segmental portion of smaller diameter than that of the toothed portion on which are provided projections 12. The pinion 13 is mounted on a pin 14 supported by a bridge 15 secured to the casing by means of the nuts 16.
Further supplemental locking means are provided by means of a bolt 93 disposed parallel to the bolt 5, said bolt 93 being mounted yon an angle piece 85, 86. Thebolt 93 has a reduced portion 87 surrounded by a 90 y spring 89 bearing against thefiange 86ofthe angle piece 85. A pin 89 connects the bolt 93 with a manually operated lever 92 k,pivoted to the exterior of the casing at 91.
' The key member illustrated in Figs. 4 and 95y 5 comprises a hollow shank portion 60 having a wing 6 1 at oneend thereof and an angular portion 64 at the other end. Integral with the wing 61 is a squared projection 62. Within the hollow shank is a slidablepin 63 10Q adapted to be pressed against a lever 67 pivoted to the portion 64. At the other end of the lever 67 is pivoted a sliding pin 68 mounted in the portion 611. The projection 65 at the end of the key guides the key in its turning movement in the lock. In the modified form of key shown in Fig. 5 the lever Irnechanism may be substituted by a plain key If desired the lock may be provided With indicating devices for indicating calendar dates, etc., as shown in Fig. 3. A series of notched Wheels 75, t9, 81, 82, 83 and 84 bear various indices 'for this purpose. These Wheels are mounted on pins 72 secured to the casing by means of bridge members 7 3, 76 and screws 74: and 77. The Wheels referred to above are held in position by the paivls 97 1 which are held in engagement With the Wheels by a spring 96 surrounding the pin 95 guided in supports 94.
The means for releasing the paivls consists of a bar 99 having extensions 100 and 102 thereon. A disk having a projection 109 may be rotated by means of the key 60. rIhis disk is provided with abutments 106, 107 adapted to bear against the bolt 104. second projection 110 is adapted to trip the lever 112 which presses against the bar 99 pivoted at 98 to press against the various paivl devices and release the indicating Wheels.
To operate the lock mechanism the key 60 is inserted in the hollow pin 10, the projection `65 through its engagement With the end 59 of the member 55 releasing the locking device 55 from the notches 57 or 58 the paWl on the member 55 swings out of line With the notches as the notches are Wider than the thicknessof the pawl. The pin 68 further engages the projections 12 to rotate the segment 11, thus reciprocating the bolt 5 through the pin 13. The bolt 5, through the medium of the links 17 and 18 and levers 21, 83 and 341, operate the supplemental bolts 25, Ll1, and
l2. The bolt 93 is released by moving the lever 92 in the proper direction by some manual means connected to said lever.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A lock of the class described Vcomprising in combination a casing, a bolt slidably mounted in said casing, said bolt being provided on oneof its edges with teeth and a pair of spaced notches on its opposite edge, a toothed segment pivotally secured to said casing, said segment being adapted to reciprocate said bolt, means for engaging said notches selectively to hold said bolt in its locked or yopen position, and a key operating means for simultaneously rotating said segment and releasing said holding means.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
SEHEIN MOHAMED BULMENI.
