This invention relates to ornamental structures for decorativepurposes, and more particularly to the provision of a multi-pointed star having a body portion, and a. plurality of points secured to the body and radiating therefrom in different lateral planes.

The primary object'of the invention is the provision of an ornamental form such as described, wherein the points may be easily attached to and detached from the body por-l tion, as desired.

Another objectof the invention is of the production of a body portion and points so designed as to permit compact nesting of the sections of the body portions, and of the star points, one within the other, preparatory to shipment in commerce. p

Still another object of the invention is the adaptation of the ornamental form as a covering for lights, or as a light carrier, rendering it especially attractive as a Christmas tree appurtenance. f y

Other objects of the invention will bemade apparent in the following specifications when read in connection with the drawings forming a part thereof.

formation, each forming one-half ofapentagonal dodecahedron, the free edges of the sections being regularly serrated to provide hills 4, each provided with an apex 5, and valleys 6, for interfitting engagement with similar hills and valleys on the other section, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 3 and 6. The sections 1 and 2, and the points 3, may be made up of thin sheet metal, of properly stiifened paper, or of any other suitable material, but, in any event, the apex 5 of each hill t is adapted 65 to lit under an apron 7, provided at the base portion of each yvalley 6. If paper ris the material used, the apex 5 of the hill 4 may be formed of a commercial paper containing a lwire of soft vmetal, whereby to permit flexure of the apex and properly retain it under the metal, in the position illustrated in Figs. and 6.

y As herein illustrated, cach of the body sections 1 and 2 is provided with six fiat, pentag- 75 onal faces lying in different planes, andk at about the longitudinal center of the line of juncturebetween each of the faces, is formed an elongated slot 8, adapted for utilization in ksecuring the points 3 to the body, as will be 80 explained later.

The star points may be made from the same y or different material from that of the body portion, as desired, it beingunderstood that they should be 'of shell-like structure and 85 preferably ofy conical shape and provided withjiive flat sides, as herein illustrated.

The peripheral edge of the base of the points i 3 is of course constructed of five equal sides 9, see Fig. 2, each providedwith a bendable tongue 10, adapted to register with and fit into the slot 8 formed in the sections 1 and 1, all the points being otherwise of identical formation, the purpose of the truncated ends being to provide an aperture in theends'of two koppositely positionedpoints, for purpose of assembly. In assembling the star, a truncated point 3 is secured to the top pentagonal face 11 of the body section 1, and to the bottom face 12 of the section 2, by inserting the tongues into the slots 8 in the separated body sections, and then bending the tongues out of normal aligmnent, as shown in Fig. 5. @ther points 3 are similarly secured to all Lthe other flat faces of the sections, and a connecting rod 13 is then inserted downwardly through the apeitured ends 14, 15 ofthe -oppositely disposed truncated points, passing through centrally positioned apertures provided in the top and bottom flat faces 11 and 12 of the sections 1 and12. The rod 13 isp-referably provided witha looped head 16K7 and with a screw-threadedlower end 17 adapted to a threaded nut 13. In this position of adjustment, the apices 5 on the sectionsl and 2 are ajll pressed under the aprons 7 spanning 20 the 'lower portions of the valleys 6, andthe nut 18 is screwed inwardly upon the rod 13 to tightly retain the sections '1 and 2 in their adjusted positions. In disassembling the structure the operation Vis of course simply reversed.

In such latter case the points 3 might then all be apertured at theextreine end.

It is clearly obvious that many modifications of the structure 'herein disclosed may be suggested to those skilled Vin the art, and it is understood that the invention covers yall embodiments fallingfairly ywithin'the scope of the appended claims. Ior instance the points might be made of metal and provided with panels madeof glass, or other vtransparencies permitting ythe passage of light. Or the points might Vbe made .oftransparent or clips. Obviously, also, ,the star ornament might be made up to provide detachable star points 3 invgreater or less numbers.

6. An ornamental form comprising a star composed of a two-.sectioned base, a plurality of star points detachably secured to the sections of said base and radiating in different planes, and means for clamping the sections of said base together.

7. An ornamental form comprising a stai` composed of a two-sectioned base, a plurality of star points detachably secured to the secs tions of said base and radiating in different planes, and means for clamping the sections of said base together, said means comprising a member extending through said sections `and through oppositely positioned star points, said member being provided with means for adjustably imparting pressure upon the ends of saidpoints to compress said A'sections together.

8. A new article of manufacture consisting of a star ornament comprising a base having twelve fla-t surfaces facing in dierent directions, and a star point detachably secured to each of said faces'.
