WILLIS P. THOMAS, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO
IDIATEOND EOI/VER SPECIALTY'CORPORATION, 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN, AGDE/FORA-` TION OF MICHIGAN :cortina CLEANER Application filed April 28,
The invention relates to boiler cleaners of that type in which the blower tube is arranged transversely to a row of boiler tubes and adjacent thereto or between adjacent rows oi tubes. The invention consists in the novel construction of bearing which is attached to the boiler tube and which in cooperation therewith positions the blower tube.
In the drawings:
Figure l is an end elevation and Figure 2 is a side elevation of one construction ot bearing; Y
Figures 3 and t are similar views of a modiied construction, and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of the interlocking ends of the sections oit the bearing, showing the same disassembled.
My improved bearing consists essentially of a saddle A of segmental form for embracing one ofthe boiler tubes B, and a U- shaped or recessed member or element C integral with and projecting from said saddle member tory embracing the blower tube D.V
The U-shaped portion is laterally oiilset trom vthe saddle portion so that the clamping means for the latter will not interfere with the blower pipe. Thus, as shown, the saddle is clamped by a member or element E having a T- jshaped head F for pivotally engaging a slot-A 4ted bearing G on one side of the saddle member, or element, said member E being ot segmental form and passing around the opposite side of the boiler tube and secured by a single clamping bolt H, which passes through aligned apertures in the said elements.l When the bearing is clamped to the boiler tube the blower tube may be inserted through the U-shaped slot therein either between rows of tubes B and B', as shown in Figures 1 and 2, wherein it rests upon the lower row of tubes or along the top row of a bank of tubes as shown in Figures 3 and l wherein it rests upon this top row of tubes. In either case the support for the blower tube is afforded by the boiler tubes and the bearing merely locates it and prevents lateral displacement.
lVhat I claim as my invention is:
1. In a boiler cleaner, the combination Ywith a boiler tube and a blower tube sup- 1919. serial no. 293,157.
ported thereon, of means carried by the boiler tube for maintaining the blower tube in position comprising complementary mem angles with a plane perpendicular with the boiler tube axis at the point of location of said complementary members, said element h avii'ig means receiving the blower tube, and. means securing the complementary-'members together and disposed to one side of said element. Y Y
2. In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a boiler tube and a blower tube disposed transversely thereofV and rotatably supported thereon, ot means ca-rried bythe'boil'er tube for restraining the blower tube from moving longitudinally of the boiler tube, said means comprising complementary members having recesses combined to form a pocket receiving the boiler tube, a member projecting from one ot said complementary members in the direction of the length of said boiler tube and having means receiving the blower tube, and means securing the complementary members together and disposed on opposite sides of saidpocket and to one side of said blower tube receiving means. l
3; In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a boiler tube and a blower tube disposed transversely thereof and rotatably supported thereon, of means carried by the boiler tube for restraining the blower tube from moving longitudinally of the boiler tube, said means Y comprising a saddle member and a clamp member, said members having recesses combined to form a pocket receiving the boiler tube, a member projecting from said saddle in the direction ot the length of said boiler tube and having a recess receiving the blower tube, and a clamping bolt acting on said members and disposed to oneside of said i 4. A bracket toripositioning a blower tube in position on a boiler' tube, comprising a pair of clamping elements provided with aligned apertures and having portions arranged to form complementary walls of a boiler tube receiving pocket, one of said` ele'- ments formed as a substantially flat member having. in one edge ay blower tube receiving recess and in its ropposite edge an open slot,
and: meansforl securing` said elements together comprisingabolt detachably received inf said? apertures and; interlocking means' disposedn substantially opposite said bolt across the` pocket, said interlocking means comprisingl said openY slot and a head on the other element received in said slot, said recess being locatedV laterally of the plane of the boit, whereby a blower tubethereindoes not interfere with the insertion or Withdrawal of said bolt in theV assembly of the bracket in.
operative position or removal therefrom.
6; In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a boiler tube and ablower tube disposed transversely thereof, of means carried by the boiler tube for positioningsaid blower tube adjacent the boiler tube',v said means comprisingcomplementary segmental members having recessesvv combined to form a pocket receiving the boiler tube, ay member projecting from one of said segmental members in the directionl of the length of said boiler tube,
including means engaging the blower tube to position the blower tube,4 and means securing the segmental memberstogether anddisposed on opposite sides off said pocket and to one side of said blower element engaging means.
7:. A bracket comprising twomembers enclosing between them a pocket for receiving a boiler tube and means on opposite sides of the pocket detachablv securing said'members together, one of said members being provided with a portion: disposed adjacent said pocket and forming a positioning means for a blower tube transverselyl tol the pocket, the partsof the bracket bei'ng'so arranged that when the bracket' isapplicd to a boiler tube,
the securing means will be on one side of a plane transverse" torsaid boiler tube and the blower tubepositioning means on the other siden of said. plane;
8; A blowertubepositioning bracket adapted to be clamped to a boi-ler tube,x and to enwith said pocket for receiving theblower 1 tube, and means for securing said saddleand saidl clamping member in clamping relation on the boiler tube and comprising a bolt, said clamping memberA and said saddle: having apertures therein arranged to one side' of said projecting member' for receiving. saidv bolt and permitting its insertion in the assembly of the bracket or withdrawal of the bolt without interference by the blower tube,
9. Ina boiler cleaner, thecombinationwith a boiler tube, and a blower tube disposed transversely thereof, of lmeans carried by. the boiler tube for restraining the' blowertube from moving longitudinal-ly of the boiler tube, said.meanscomprising a saddle member and a clamp member, said members having recesses combinedvto form a pocket receiving the boiler tube, a member projecting from said saddle member in the direction of the length of said boiler tube andAhavin-g an open recess receiving the'blower tube, and means securing the-saddle'member and clamp member together and disposed-on opposite sides of said pocket and to one side of said open recess.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature'.y
