My invention relates to an auxiliary presser foot attachment for sewing machines and l declare the following to be a full, clear, concise and exact description thereof sucient to enable anyone Vskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which like reference-characters refer to like parts throughoutthe specifications.
lThe object of thel invention is to provide a sewing.V machine that is adapted to ruffle a narrow strip of fabric and at the same time sew it to another piece of fabric, which forms the body of the garment, and is run through the machine perfectly flat without any rutile therein. To this end an auxiliary presser footand separator plate is attached to the well known two feed sewing machine.
p The fabric that is to be sewed without the go'ruiile therein is fed to the sewing machine over the separator plate, whereby it will not come in contact with the front feed mechanism of the machine and the edging strip is fed under the separator plate, whereby it will 'be act-ed upon by both feedsof the sewing machine with the resultant rutile therein.
The invention may be found useful not only for the purpose of rufiing cloth but also it can be used in ruiing laces, ribbons, or any sort of fabric. Furthermore, it can be adjusted whereby to ruffle or merely full in the fabric. Several of the attachments can be fixed on one machine having a plurality of sets of feeds, whereby a plurality of edging strips can be sewed simultaneously to a piece of fabric.
The object will be understood by referring to the drawings in which Fig. 1 is an elevational view showing the auxiliary presser foot and plate attachment applied to a differential feed sewing machine. Fig. 2 is al detail perspective view of the attachment.

The end 23 ofuhorizontal part 22 is rounded off and is disposed just above frontfeerd'rdog .11. A bearing or enlarged portion 24: is made integral with presser foot 2O and disposed at the apex and on the-inner side of the angle between 'parts 21 and 22. An aperture 25`is madelin bearingV portion 24 for the projection of headed shaft l 26. Ends of shaft 26 extend beyond the end, surfaces of bearing portion 24. One of said ends is riveted in upstanding plate 27 made integral with bracket 30 that 4is'screw bolted, to cloth plate 1 at 31, 31. On the-other end of shaft 26 is a collar 28 held in place by set bolt 29, whereby to aid in retaining shaft 26 in place. The presser part of plate'20 is'formed at 35 by bending horizontal part 22-down at: an angle at 36. Presser part 35 is disposed'in a horizontal plane and is vadapted t0 cooperate with front feed dog 11 in order to carry the edging strip 10 past the sewing mechanism.

The operation'ofithe device is effected by feeding manually ,fabric 555 yto the `sewing mechanisminto Lthe space 53 between the lower -surface'of the inclined part 51 of rear presserfoot 5jand the upper surface of auX- iliary presser foot 20. Edging strip 10 will be fied manually also to the sewing mechanism up over'ed'geV 62 of plate 60 and onto plate and lunder auxiliary presser foot 20.
When the sewingmachme 1s 1n motion, rear Y feed dog 6 will by its reciprocatorymotion draw fabric 55 under the sewing mechanism vwithout rulling, gathering or fulling it. Said fabric 55 in thisinstance is subj ect only y to the action of feed dog 6 because of the intervention of'auxiliary presser' foot 20 which separates said fabric v55 fromthe action Vof feed dog 11. Edging strip 10 on the other hand will be pressed into contact with front feed dog 11 by the yielding end of auxiliary presser foot 20, and into contact with rear feed dog 6 by presser foot 5 whereby it ywillbe-'subject tothe differential actions of feed dogsill and 6 and hence be ruffled, gathered or fulled as shown'inf Fig. 3, As said fabric Q55 and edging strip 10 pass under needle l5-they will `be sewed together result- .ing in the product illustrated in Fig. 3.

of said parts being bent to form a lower surface for cooperating with the second mentioned of said feeds, whereby a ruffled edging strip can be sewed to a piece of fabric without rufliing said piece of fabric, a bearing formed at the angle of said parts of the rock member, a stud attached to said rockmember, a shaft yattached to said sewing machine, va coil spring surrounding said stud and shaft Aand means mounted on said shaft,vwhereby to adjust the tension of said rock member.
