My invention relates to building construction, and particularly to novel means for holding metal lath and slee aers to the tops of beams or girders.
t is common practice to suitably mount the floor girders and to place thereon a layer of metal lath, then to position floor sleepers on the beams, extending either parallel to or transversely of the beams, and suitable means should be provided for securing the sleepers to the beams through thelath. Inasmuch as the flange width of the beams varies in different installations and, in fact, in the same building at different parts thereof, the fastenmg device should adapt itseli to such variations and to variations in the position of the sleeper.
In order to accomplish this result,I have provided a sleeper chair and a novel fasten- 2 3 ing clip composed of two sections of wire adapted to interlock, and each wire having a downwardly projecting portion terminatlng in a hook adapted to underlie the beam flanges.

In the'drawings, an expanded metal beam is shown'comprisin'g shearelements 10'and flanges 11. Metal lath 12 is intended to be laid on top of the beam, and on the lath is superposed a wood sleeper 18. The sleeper may extend parallel to the beam, as shown, or
transversely thereto, as'occasion may require.
As a means for securing the sleeper in place,

edges, together with vertically extending ears or lugs 16 on opposite sides, apertured as at 17 to receive nails. j v i The fasteningclip of my inventionicomprises a pair of wire elements of duplicate construction, each consisting of a straight portion 18, a laterally bent portion 19, a downwardly projecting portion 20, and a book 21. j The laterally bent portion 19 is so proportioned that the straight portion of a co-operating clip element may be received therein, as best shown in Fig. 7 When the parts are combined, as shown in Figs. 5 and 7, the two downturned ends may be projected through the interstices in thelath with the hook portions-spread apart suiiiciently to clear the flanges of the beam. By pulling on the-tree ends 22 of the straight portions, the hooks are drawn toward each other into close engagement with the beam flanges, and thereafter the free ends are bent around the portions 19 and may occupy a space beside the sleeper. This clip serves as a convenient means for securing lath to a beam whether or not a chair is to be used. If the. chair is to be installed, as shown in the drawings, it is placed immediately on the lath and the straight portions 18 of the clip occupy the space beneath the sleeper and between the ribs or bulges 15. The ribs 15 serve to elevate the sleeper suli'iciently above the beam so that the concrete'may flow under the sleepers in order to suitably support the/same.
The sleeper may be positioned in either of two right-angularly disposed positions with,- out interference in any way with the operation of the clip.
Obviously, the cllp adapts itself to allforins and dimensions of beams, and, when firmly secured by manual operation, is permanently held in place. i i Modifioations and variations may be made in the construct-ion without departure from the spirit of my invention.
I claim;

In combination with a flanged beam and said lath above the beam, and a clip consisting of two separate lengths of wire of substantiallyduplicate construction, each having a straight portion and a bent end terminating in a hook, said straight portions being adapted to lie inside by side relation with the straight portion-of one section underlying the bent end portion of the other section, said bent end portions being adapted to be projected through the lath with the straight portions above the seat of the chair, the hooks being adapted to engage with'the flanges ofthe beam, and the free ends of the wire sections to be bent at an angle to confine the clip in holding relation.

the hooks being adapted to engage with the flanges of the beam, and the free ends of the wire sections to be bent at an angle to confine the clip in holding relation.
5. The combination with a flanged beam and lath resting thereon, of a sleeper chair having wings and a seat, adapted to rest on said lath above the beam, projections on the base of said chair extending upwardly whereby to raise the sleeper from contact with the base, and a clip consisting of two'separate' lengths of wire of substantially duplicate construction, each having a straight portion and a bent end terminating in a hook,"sai'd straight portions being adapted to lie in side by side relation. with the straight portion of one section underlying the bent end portion of the other section, said bent end portions being adapted to be projected through the lath with the straight portions'above the seat of the chair, the hooks being adapted to engage with the flanges of the beam, and the free ends of the wire sections to be bentat an angle to confine the clip in holding relation;

The combination with a flanged beam and lath resting thereon, of a clip consisting of two separatelengths of wirev of substantially duplicate construction, eachhavinga straight portion and a bent end terminating in a hook, said straight portions being adapted to lie in side by side relation with the straight portion of one section underlying the bent end portion of the other section, said bent ends being disposed in a downward direction with the hook portions'lying in a plane parallel with said straight portions, said bent end portions being adapted to be projected through the lath, the hooks being adapted to engage with the flanges of the beam and the free ends of the wire sections to be bent at an angle to confine the clipin holding relation, said chair being shaped to receive the sleeper in either a parallel or cross position relative to the beam.
8. The combination with a fiangedbeam and lath resting thereon, of a sleeper chair having Wings and a seat adapted to rest on said lath above the beam, a-cli'p consisting 6. 9. The combination with a flanged beam and lath resting thereon, of a sleeper chair having wings and a seat adapted to rest on said lath above the beam, and projections on the base of said chair extending upwardly whereby to raise the sleeper from contact with the base and a clip consisting of two separate lengths of wire of substantially duplicate construction, each having a straight portion and a bent end terminating in a hook, said straight portions being adapted to lie in side by side relation with the straight portion on one section underlying the bent end por tion of the other section, said bent end portions being adapted to be projected through the lath with the straight portions above the seat of the chair, the hooks being adapted to engage with the flanges of the beam and the free ends of the wire sections to be bent at an angle to confine the clip in holding relation, said chair being adapted to be mounted to receive the sleeper in either a parallel or cross position relative to the beam.
