This invention relates to certain novel improvements in self wringing mops and consists of the novel and inexpensive construction hereinafter described and claimed.
. The salient object of my invention is to provide a self wringing mop which will embody a handle construction having the component parts thereof arranged in telescopic relation whereby they may be reciprocated relative to each other to facilitate manipulation of the mop. I
Another object of the invention is to provide a self wringing mop in which the mop cloth may be formed in a continuous belt like structure which may be mounted between two members carried by the above mentioned telescopicallv arranged handle construction such that the mop cloth may be brought under tension between the parts adapted to carry the same.
A further object of the invention is to arrange the device in such a manner that when the mop cloth is tensioned between the members carrying the same, a pair of rollers may be passed thereover so as to extract the water therefrom in order to substantially dry the same.
Other objects will appear hereinafter. The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:

My improved construction for self wringing mops includes a novel handle formation in which a substantially tubular sleeve 10 is provided through which a rod 11 is adapted to extend so as to be reciprocal therein. The tubular sleeve 10 has a reduced opening 12 formed at the lower end thereof so as to define a shoulder 13 therein. At the lower end of the rod 11 a rod 14 is secured which is adapted to be of a restricted size relative to the rod 11. A spring 15 is disposed to extend between the lower end of the rod 11 and the shoulder 13 and said spring is disposed around the rod 1 1. The spring 15 is adapted to urge the rod 11 upwardly for a purpose to be brought forth hereinafter. At the upper end of the rod 11 a suitable hand grip 16 is provided.
Adjacent the lower end of the sleeve 10 a substantially U-shaped member 17 is mounted which includes a loop portion 18 that is adapted to be disposed around and clamped to the sleeve 10 at a point removed from but juxtaposed to the lower end of the sleeve 10. The leg portions of this member 17 are directed upwardly and extend through a plate 18 which is suitably secured to the sleeve 10 and which serves to increase the rigidity so of the member 17. At the lower end of the rod 14: a plate 19 is secured and a substantially U-shaped member 20 is fastened to this plate 19 and is arranged such that the leg portions thereof extend upwardly or bets5 ter in the same direction as the leg portions of the member 17. The mop cloth 21 is adapted to be formed into substantially a continuous belt like member that is adapted to be extended between the bight portion of the member 17 and the plate 19.
Adjacent the upper end of the sleeve 10 an opening 22 is provided in the rod 11 adjacent the lower end of the handle construction 16. Secured to the rod 11 so as to extend across the recess 23 is a resilient clip 24 which has a boss 25 formed thereon. A finger portion 26 is provided on the upper end of the resilient clip 24. WVhen the rod 11 is disposed within the sleeve 10 in the manner depicted in Figs.
1 and 2 the plate 19 and the member 18 are spaced apart a distance sufficient to bring the mop cloth 21 under tension and when the parts are so disposed the boss 25 is arranged within the opening 22 so as to hold the parts in this relative position.
A handle 27 is reciprocally mountedon the sleeve 10 and carries an outwardly extending plate 28 at the lower end thereof. Substantially V-shaped members 29'and 30 are directed through spaced apart openings 31 provided in the plate 28 and the bigiht portions of the members 29 and 30 are disposed on the upper side of said plate28 as'clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The lower ends of the legs of the members 29 and'30 extend through the ends of shafts 32 and 33 which extend across themop cloth in the manner best'illustrated in Fig. 1. Rollers 34 and 35 are rotatably apart so as to bring the mop cloth 21 under tension andwhen the'members 36 and 37 are positioned on the members 29 and 30 such that the rollers34 and 35 are forced into engagement with the mop cloth 21' the handle 27 may be reciprocated along the sleeve 10 so as.

After the mop cloth 21 has been dried in the manner heretofore describedthe handle 27- is moved upwardly so as to dispose the rollers 34 and 35 adjacent'the member 17. finger portion 26 is engaged so as to bend the resilient clip 24 into'the-recess 23 and thus the boss 25 is retracted from the opening 22." The rod 11 is then moved rearwardly until'the plate 19 engages the lower end of the sleeve 10. This frees the mop cloth21' from tension and said mo )cloth is freel sus ended l y P from the structure and may therefore be used in the manner well understood in the art for cleaningpurpose and for withdrawing water fromasurface and the like.
' In Figs. 5 6, and 7 I have depicted amodified form of construction for the wringing members or rollers. Herein the sleeve38 is reciprocallv'mounted on the sleeve 10 and carries brackets 39 and 40 which have downward lyextending. legs that are suitably secured'to the midpoin'ts of laterally extending mem vbers 41' and 42. A spring 46 extends between the end of the cap and shaft 44 and acts on the shaft 44 to force said shaft toward the inner end of the slot 43. A similar construction is provided at each end of the member 41 and at each end of the member 42. The shaft 41 extends between one end'of'the-m'ember 42 and the member 4-1 and a-shaft 47 extends between the other ends of these members and rollers 34' and 35 similar to the rollers 34 and 35 are mounted on these shafts; By running in the caps 45 the rollers 34 and 35 may be moved toward each otherand the position of the caps 45 will regulate the. tension of the springs 46 and therefore the tension exertedon the shafts 41 and 47 and therefore the relative distance and tensionbetween the rollers 34 and 35. The mop cloth will be distended in the manner heretofore described andby reciprocating the sleeve 38 along the sleeve'10 the rollers 34 and 35 will be passed across said mop clothso as to extract the water therefrom.-
It is apparent from the foregoing description that I have provided a-device which'may be expeditiously arranged so a-s-to distend the mop cloth in a manner s'uchthat squeezing members may pass there over so as to extract water therefrom. The device is also arranged in such'amanner that the means for distending the mop cloth-maybe expeditiously operated and locked inaposition suchthat the hereintofore mentioned squeezing process may be readilycarried lout.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying myinvention into effect, this-iscapable of variation and modification,- without departing'from the spirit of'the invention; I", therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction 'set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variationsand modifi cations as come within? the scope of the appended claims- V Having. thus described my invention What I claim as new anddesireto protect by Letters Patent is:

2. In a device of the character stated, a sleeve, a rod mounted for movement through said sleeve, a supporting member carried by said sleeve, a supporting member carried by said rod, a substantially continuous belt like mop cloth mounted on said supporting members, said rod being movable through said sleeve whereby said supporting members may be spaced apart to place said cloth under tension, means for holding said supporting members in said spaced relation, a sleeve having a plate mounted thereon, substantially 3Q V-shaped members suspended from said plate, rollers mounted at the lower free ends of said V-shaped members, and means slidable along said V-shaped members adapted to urge said rollers into engagement with said tensioned mop cloth whereby said rollers may be moved thereacross as said second named sleeve is reciprocated along said first named sleeve.
