This invention relates to a saw, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the saW can be converted into a hack saw, a meat saw and the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby blades of dilierent lengths can be used with the saw.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means for placing the handle in any one of a number of dilierent positions.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, 'to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of the improved saw. f

Figure 8 is a perspective view showing the means for attaching the handle to the frame, with the parts separated.
As shown in these drawings, the frame is composed of the two sections 1 and 2, each section having its upper end bent, as shown at 3, and formed With a slot 4 for receiving a part of the shank of the other section. Thus the top portions of the two sections overlap and by this arrangement, the frame can be lengthened or shortened, as desired. A spring plate 10 is riveted to one section and carries a pin 11 on its free end for engaging anyone of a plurality of holes 12 in the other section to lock the two sections in adjusted position. The lower end of section 2 is forked, as shovvn at 13, the prongs being each provided with registering holes 14 for receiving the bolt 15 which is engaged by the nut 16Yvvhich rests between the prongs so that by turning the nut, the bolt Will be adjusted in the prongs. The inner end of the bolt is reduced and is provided With a fiat face from Which projects a pin 17 to engage a hole in one endk of the saw blade A. Thelower end of section 1 has fastened thereto a socket forming member 18 which receives a bolt 19, the outer end of which is engaged by a Wing nut 20. This bolt is also provided with a flattened face from which projects a pin 21 to engage the hole in the other end of the saw blade. l prefer to split the socket member lonfritudinally on its inner end to provide slits for receiving t Le end of the saw blade, as shown.
A saw handle 22 is provided with a screwk threaded stem 23 which passes through a barrel-like part 24 formed on the end portion of section 1. The stem is adapted to receive a Wing nut 25 so that the handle can be clamped to the frame.
A plate 2S, having a circular central part With a hole therein to receive the stem 23, and having a pair of upstanding lugs 29 at each end thereof, engages a part of the frame 1 and a similar plateBO has its central part fastened to the saw handle by the ears 31, the lugs 32 on this plate being shorter than the lugs 29 on the plate 28. `A pair of projections 26 is formed on the central part of the plate 30 and these projections engage either one of tvvo pairs or notches 27 formed in one end of the barrel part 24. One pair of notches 27 is arranged at rightangles to the other pair so that when the projections 26 are in engagement With one pair of notches, the saw handle Will extend parallel With the saw frame, as shown in full lines in Figure 1, and When the projections are in engagement with the other pairr of notches, the saw handle will be at rightangles to the frame, as shown :in dotted lines in Figure 1. When the plates 28 and 30 come ytogether on the stem, the lugs embrace the end part of the section l of the frame and thus lirmly lock the handle to the frame and help the lugs 26 to prevent turning movement of the handle. Then the handle is to be turned to its dotted line position, it is simply necessary to loosen the Wing nut 25 and to partly pull the stern from the hole in the trarne s0 that the handle and stern can be turned to place the lugs 26 in another pair of notches 27 and to turn the plate 30 at rightangles to the plate 28. Then the thunib nut is tightened to clamp the parts with the handle in this position.
From the foregoing it Will be seen that I have provided ineans whereby the saw trame can be adjusted to accommodate blades ot dilerent lengthsa the blades can be turned to different positions in the frame and the handle can be adjusted on the trarne to extend in ydinerent directions. Y
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of iny invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I niay inalre changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement ot' the several parts, provided that such changes tall Within the scope of the appended claim.
