My invention relates to Venetian blinds and an object thereof is to provide a Venetian blind which may be raised and lowered to desired positions and the slats or bars composing the blind adjusted to various angular positions.
Further the invention provides a blind of the Venetian type having manually operable means for clamping the blind in closed or ventilating positions, the manually operable means being capable of operation to obtain any desired degree of ventilation.
With the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein M Figure 1 is a perspective of the invention installed in a sleeping porch;

Figure 6 is a view similar to Figure 4 but a illustrating the device in full ventilating position; and

Referring to the invention in detail a sleeping porch window frame is designated at 5 and vertically adjustable over the Window frame is a Venetian blind composed of the usual transverse slats or bars 6 flexibly connected together by flexible tapes 7. At its upper end the window frame: is provided with a compartment 3 in which the blind is received when in fully raised position.
The ends of the slats or bars overlie the inner faceof the side members of, the window frame and are vertically adjustable along window frame and carry a vertical guide rails 8 secured to the inner face of the window frame side members.
For the purpose of raising and lowering the blind, flexible elements 9 are attached to the lower end of the blind and are trained over pulleys 10 mounted in brackets 11 at.-
to retain the blind in raised position. A
single flexible element 14 depends from the ring and is engageable with'a cleat 15 at-. tached to the window frame below the hook. when it is desired to retain the blind in a partially raised position.
For the purpose of suspending the blind the upper ends of the tapes 7 are attached to plates 4 secured to the under face of the upper horizontal bar of the window frame.
The invention provides means for retaining the bars or slats in vertical or closed position, and angular or ventilating position, comprising a pair of vertically shiftable L- shaped in cross section clamping rails 17 which are disposed in advance of the window frame in transverse alinement with the guide rails 8. These clamping rails are received on horizontal rods 18, one of which is 'disposed at the lower ends of the rails and is pivotally attached to links 18 which are pivotally connected with brackets 19 which in turn are attached to the side rails of the window frame. The other rod 18 is engaged with the clamping rails adjacent their upper ends and is also pivotally connected with links 20 which are pivotally supported from the window frame.
In order to actuate the clamping rails, a horizontal rock shaft 21 is journalled in upstanding brackets 22 attached to the upper face of the sill of the window frame, and fixed to the ends of the rock shaft are-arms 23 having pivotal connection with links 24, the V latter being pivotally connected with the adjacent rod 18. a
A U-shaped strap 25 is fixed to the rock shaft in close proximity to one of the brackets and projects outwardly in a lateral direction. The U-shaped member is held to the shaft by providing flattened faces 26 thereon at diametrically opposite points with which the legs of the U-shaped member contact.
A hand lever 27 is pivotally mounted between the extremities of the U-shaped member' to swing about the axis of the rock shaft. A blade or detent 28 is formed upon the pivoted end of the handle 27 adapted to engage in any of a plurality of radially disposed notches 29 in a quadrant 30 attached to and extending laterally from one of the upstanding brackets to hold the rock shaft in desired adjustment.
Coacting interlocking sheet metal angle strips 31 are attached to the lowermost slat and rear face of the window sill respectively, which prevents raising of the lowermost slat when the blind is in closed or weather tight position. However, when it is desired to raise the blind the angle strip carried by the lowermost slat may be disengaged from the other angle strip by moving the blind slightly inwardly with respect to the window sill.
With my invention the blind may be retained in raised, partially raised, open, or
partially open positions. It will be observed that upon pulling the flexible element 14 to raise the blind, the slats or bars thereof Will arrange themselves in superimposed relation and the entire blind housed within the compartment 3.
What is claimed is 1. In a Venetian blind regulating device, a clamping rail supported parallel to. the blind and adjustable towards and away from the latter whereby to sustain the parallel elements composing the blind in various angular positions, manually operable means for adjusting the clamping rail, and latch means for retaining the manually operable means in selective positions.
2. In a Venetian blind regulating device, a plurality of conne'cted'parallel clamping rails, pivotaTsupports attached thereto for attachment to a stationary support to permit movement of the rails towards and away from the blind to sustain the elements thereof in selected angular positions, manually operable means for shifting the rails, and latch means for retaining the manually operable means in selected positions.

a plurality of longitudinally shiftable clamp ing rails pivotally supported in opposed re- .ing rails pivotally supported in opposed relation to the blind and movable towards and away from the same, a rock shaft supported adjacent the rails and having operative connection therewith, a hand lever carried by the rock shaft whereby to actuate the latter to shift the clamping rails, and a latch for retaining the rock shaft in adjusted position.
6. In combination a support, a blind embodying a plurality of flexibly connected parallel members, a clamping rail arranged parallel to the blind and adjustable laterally towards and away from the same to retain the parallel members thereof in various angular adjustments, fully open position, or in overlapped relation, and latch means as sociated with the clamping rail for holding the latter in desired adjustment.
7. In a clamping device, a plurality of parallel longitudinal clamping members pivotally supported adjacent their opposite ends and movable towards and away from an object to be clamped, a supported rock shaft, operative connections between the rock shaft and clamping members, and means for actuating the rock shaft to move the clamping members to operative and inoperative positions.
8. In a clamping device, a plurality of parallel longitudinal clamping members pivotally supported adjacent their opposite ends and movable towards and away from an object to be clamped, a supported rock shaft, operative connections between the rock shaft and clamping members, means for actuating the rock shaft to move the clamping members .to operative and inoperative positions, such means including a combined handle and latch element carried by the rock shaft, and a keeper supported adjacent the rock shaft and engageable by the handle to retain the rock shaft in adjusted positions.
