'This invention relates to a body and door iastening Construction suitable for head lamps and the like, although not solely conined thereto. i
The Chief object of this invention is to provide a Construction which eliminates from the faceor edge of the door any unsightly or looking device. The foregoing object is accomplished by having the two cooperating catch portions and associated parts, one being mounted upon 'the door and the other upon the casing positionable within the same when in assembled relation and having a relatively small rearwardly exposed portion provided with a tool-engageable arrangement for actuation.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying`draw-. ings and the following description and claims:
In the drawings Fig. l is a central sectional view of one form of the invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the upper portion of Fig. 1 with the invention shown dotted. Fi 3 is a bottom plan View of the latch shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 4: is a central sectional view of a modified 'form of the invention. Fig. 5 is a front elevation ot' the parte shown in the upper portion of Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a similar view ot' the parts shown-in the lower portion of F ig. 4. Fig. 7 is a perspective view ot the combination catch and guide shown in Figs. 4 and 6.
In Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, 10 indicates a casing having a peripheral shoulder portion 11. VVithin the casing is supported a refiector 12 having an outwardly directed fiange 13 which as 'heroin shown, abuts against as Well as bears upon the inturned fiange 14 of the casing. The closure 15 bears on an annular cushion and scaling member 16 and a door rim 17 bears on the same at 18 and includes an inturned annular bead or hearing portion 19 for engagement with the casing shoulder for limiting the inward movement of the closure and rim. All of the aforesaid is standard Construction in the head lamp art and any other addtional parts may be added thereto to complete the lamp construction.
The present inventionrelates to a relatively non-exposed casing and door fastening Construction. In the form of the invention ,illustrated in Fig. 1, three ofthe atoresaid `latchng constructons are employed, of which one s shown, said constructons'belng arranged in spaced relation relative to each other Each Construction includes a drawn SOClGl 20 :tormed in the rear end of the casing spring 27 'for normally projecting the bar i 24: :torwardly and into latch releasingposition. The opposite end of the bar 24: in- .cludes an angular portion 28, -the parallel portion 29 and a looking portion 30. Riveted to the door rim by suitable number of rivets, and heren one is dsclosed and indcated by the numeral 31, is a catch having the' body portion 32 and a 'hook or catch retaining po'rtion 33 engageable by-the catchportion 30 of the strap when the threaded bolt 22 is turned inwardly to draw the strap rearwardly. e
It has been customary to mount lamp' closure by partially rotating the same and the meniher 32 permits of such operation, to w it, the looking. portion 33 includes a pair of parallel extensions 34 and 35 which serve ,asguides, the latter` being elongated and serving as`a stop and eXtending angularly otthe portion 34: 'is an inclined portion 36 so that in the rotational seating movement of the rim upon the Casing the strap'member will engagethe inclined' portion 36 in the partial rotation of therm, seat in the groove thus formed and be prevented from further lateral movement relative to the rim by the elongated portion 35. The afores'ad portions 33,' 34: and 35 form a pocket which receives the looking portion 30 of the strap. In the present form of the inventionthe casingflange 14 is slotted as at 40 and the IUU
