EMERSON E. .FLAGG, OF BRATTLEBOROUGH, VERMONT,
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED SKIMMERS AN'D FORKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,988, dated February 1, 1876; application filed December 27, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMERSON E. FLAGG, of Brattleboroug h, Windham county, Vermont, have invented a new and Improved Combined Skimmer and Fork, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a rear view of my improved instrument; and Fig.2 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken through the line a: as, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. v
The object of this invention is to furnish a new instrument for use forcooking purposes, which shall be so constructed that it may be used as a skimmer and a fork, and which shall be simple in construction and convenient in use.
The invention consists in a skimmer and fork connected with each other, as hereinafter describedthat is to say, in such a manner that they may be slid back and forth upon each other, to adapt the instrument to be used as a skimmer or as a fork, as hereinafter set forth.
A represents the skimmer, which is con- I vexed and perforated with numerous holes, in
the usual manner. B is the fork, which is made of iron or steel wire, and the prongs and the'lower part of the handle of which are curved upon the same are as the skimmer'A. The fork B may be provided with a wooden handle, if desired. The shank or lower part of the fork B passes through and slides in a keeper, 0, attached to the back of the skimmer A near its rear edge. The prongs of the the points of said prongs may be back atleast as far as the forward edge of the skimmer A,
and'when the said fork B is pushed forward its prongs may project far enough for use as a fork.
Upon the keeper G is formed a projection, 0, so that the fork B may be pushed forward and drawn back by resting the said projection (3 against the edge of .the kettle or other vessel.
The skimmer A may be provided with a short handle, overlapping the handle of fork- B, to enable the fork and skimmer tobe adjusted upon each other by hand.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentv 1. A fork, B, curved as shown in the drawing, passing with its shank through a keeper,
0, and with its prongs through the edge of skimmer A, to admit of its adjustment, in the manner described.
2. The projection 0, arranged upon the keeper G of skimmer, to be used in the manner specified.
EMERSON EDWARD FLAGG.
