UNITED STATES WILLIAM COOK, OF
PATENT OFFICE. I
WARREN, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT |N HAY-LoADERs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,972, dated February 1, 1876 application filed March e, 1875.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known.that I, WILLIAM COOK, of Warren,.in the county of Huntington and State of Indiana, have invented a certain Improvement in Hay-Loaders, of which the following is a specilication:
This invention relates to that class of hayloaders which are attached tothe tail end of the wagon, and load the hay thereon by. means of an endless rake. v
My improvement consists in the use of a hanger depending from the upper end of the rake-frame, and provided with a pin at its lower end for entering an eyebolt or staple fixed to the Wagon or loader, for the purpose of regulating the elevation of the upper endl of the elevating-rake, and also to steady the loader, which is drawn by means of chains from the hind axle'of the wagon.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is a plan view ot' my improved hay-loader. Fig-2 is a vertical longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 illustrates, on a smaller scale, thel nia-nner of Same letters of reference are used in all the The loader runs on the Wheels A. the axle B of which also constitutes the axis of the lower Adrums C of the endless rake D, which travels at the other end over the drums E, having their journalssupported in bearings in the side boards F of the frame-of the loader. The endless rake consists of a pair of belts, stretched over the. aforesaid drums or pulleys, and aseres of cross-bars provided with the necessary teeth, a board, Gr, being arranged lower end a fixed pin, l. loader to a'wagon the pin l of the hanger L is The loader is provided With draft-chains K,
by means of which it is to be connected to the hind axle of the wagon to be loaded. To regulate the elevation of the upperend ofthe end-` less rake, as well as to steady the movement of the loader, I provide a hanger, L, pivoted at its upper end to the forward end ofthe side boa-rds F of the loader, and carrying in its In connecting this inserted in an eyebolt or staple fixed centrally to the wagon or ladders. The chains K are then earriedaround the hind axle of the ladders, and properly secured thereto.
It Will be observed' that, by lengthening or shortening the chains, the elevation of the upper end of the rake D may bereadily regu. v
lated.
WhatI claim as my invention, and desire t0 secure by Letters Patent, is-
- The combination, with the frame of the hayloader, of the pivoted hanger L Zand draftchains K, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed vmy name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
