Description

Sept. 24, 1929. c;A HENGGI MATCH Box QR HOLDER Filed' sept. 1o. 192e Patented Sept. 24, 1929 PATENT OFFICE GOTTFRIED HENGGI, OF BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON MATCH BOX OR HOLDER Application led September 10, 1928.
This invention relates to match boxes or holders and the main object is to provide a holder from which only one match may be extracted at one time.
Another object is to provide such a device which is simple in structure, efficient in operation and not liable to derangement of the operating elements.
l/Vith these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical section thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional detail of one of the plungers and associated elements.
In carrying out the invention I provide a substantially rectangular box 1 of suitable material such as light sheet metal or the like. The upper margin of the box 1 is inclined or sloping as shown and is provided with a lid 2 hinged at 3, the arrangement being so that the matches from a conventional cardboard box (not shown) may be readily deposited in the box 1. A bottom or floor 4 is provided in the box 1 the same being spaced from the lower margin of latter and sloping toward the front wall 5 of the said box so that the normal tendency of the matches 6 will be to roll forwardly in the box. A laterally extending slot 7 is provided in the front wall 5 in a ignment with the upper surface of the 4bottom et, this slot being of a length to permit the convenient passage of a match therethrough as shown in Figures 2 and 3. Plunger housings 8 are secured in spaced relationship upon the front wall 5 of the box 1, the lower edges thereof terminating at the upper margin of the slot 7. These housings 8 are triangular in a vertical section, that is the front walls thereof converge upwardly toward the front wall 5 of the box 1 and plungers 9 are slidably positioned therein. The lower faces of the plungers 8 are angularly formed as at 10 in such manner that a match passing through the slot 7 will roll just under that edge of the plunger adjacent the front wall 5 as shown at 11 the said Serial No. 304,970.
plungers being adapted to rest upon small tables or lugs 12 secured to the lower margin of the slot 7 and extending outwardly beneath the plunger housings 8.
By grasping the match beneath the plungers with the finger tips it may be pulled outward out of the box, the plungers 9 being raised upward in the housings 8 and it will be understood that these plungers 9 through force of gravity will then immediately slide downward upon the tables 12 preventing any further removal of matches except in the manner set forth.
From the foregoing it will be understood that I provide a very simple and eiiicient device for the purposes intended and which is susceptible of use in many places.
While I have herein set forth a certain preferred embodiment of my invention it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor details so as best to construct a practical device within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim: f
In a device of the character described, a box having a hinged lid and a forwardly sloping bottom, the front wall of the box having an elongated slot in alignment with the upper surface of the bottom, plunger housings upon the front wall above the slot, so tables or lugs extended from the front wall beneath the slot and the plunger housings, and plungers slidably mounted in the housings normally resting upon the tables or lugs, the said plungers having angular lower faces to allow a match to pass thereunder when removing the same from the box.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GOTTFRIED HENGGI.
