This invention relates generally to conveyers, and has more particular reference to the novel construction thereof.
The invention has for an object the pro vision of a device of the class mentioned which is of simple, durable construction, ef ficient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
' The device consists of a pair of spaced side frame members formed with continuous guide members. A plurality of adjacent, flexible support members are arranged in the guide members. These support members form the conveying element of the device. They are formed with a row of rack teeth on their inner sides, and a driver gear mounted on the side frame members, engage these teeth to force the support member along the guides. The said pair of spaced side frame members are adjustably connected so that the spacing may be changed to accommodate support members of different sizes.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed according to this invention.

generally spaced side frame members having horizontal front portions and upwardly inclined rear portions. Extending along the inner sides of these frame members, along the edges thereof, are pairs of parallel guide members 12, forming continuous grooves 13. These grooves may be traced up along the top edges of the upwardly inclined rear portions, down along the bottom edges. thereof, then along the bottom edges of the horizontal front portions of the said frame members, and finally along the top edges thereof. A plurality of transverse, adjacent support members 14, of flexible material, are engaged between the said side frame members, so that their ends slidably extend into the grooves 13. The inner sides of these support members have a row of rack teeth 15 which are engaged by a gear 16 secured to a shaft 17 rotatively supported in the frame members 10 and 11.
The shaft 17 projects thru the frame member 10 and a sprocket wheel 18 is attached to the outer end of the shaft. A sprocket chain 19 engages the wheel 18, an idler 20 supported to the member 10, and a second sprocket wheel 21 fixed to a shaft 22 connected to some driving means, not shown on the drawing.
The inner side of the frame member 10 has a plurality of perpendicular bracket projections 23, and top complementary brackets 24 are hinged to the frame member and engageable upon the brackets 23. Brackets 23, and 24: are formed with central apertures 25 engaged by spacer rods 26 having projecting pins 27 engaging in one of a plurality of apertures 28 formed in the brackets 23 and 24. Screws 29 secure the brackets 23 and 24 to gether. The other ends of the rods 26 are threaded, and threadedly engage bushings 30 formed with grooves 31. These bushings are rotatively mounted in the side members 11. Looking nuts 32 engage the free ends of the rods 26, and firmly abut the bushings 30 to hold these bushings against rotation. The bushings 30 have slots 33 for engagement by a turning to-ol. Brackets 342 are attached to the front of the frame members, and a guard rod 35 is slidably arranged in these brackets.
In operation, the driver sprocket wheel 21 transmits motion to shaft 17, and thus gear 16, and the support member 14 connected to the gear by the rack teeth 15 is forced to move, which motion is transmitted to all of the support members, which produces a conveyer belt effect. Material thrown upon the support members in the horizontal portion of the device, is moved upwards along the inclined portion. This device is best adapted to convey food articles such as stalks of corn or the like. The spaced sides 10 and 11 may be adjusted relative to each other to better accommodate the support members 14, or other support members of different sizes. The screws 29 may be removed, the brackets 24 tilted upwards and then the rods 26 may be reset with the pins 27 in any desirable apertures 28. Then the brackets may be returned to normal conditions. Finer adjustments are next accomplished by loosening nuts 32 and rotating bushings 30, and then resetting the lock nuts 32.
While I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modilications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1. In a conveyer, spaced side frame members, a bracket projecting from the inner side of one of the side frame members, a top complementary bracket hinged on the said side frame member and engageable on the said bracket, means for holding the said brackets together, a spacer rod engaged between the brackets, a cross pin in the spacer rod and engaging in one pair of a plurality of pairs of apertures formedin the brackets, a bushing threadedly mounted on the free end of the spacer rod and rotatively mounted on the other of the said side frame members, and a nut threadedly engaged on the spacer rod and abutting the bushing.
2. In a conveyer, spaced side frame members, a bracket projecting from the inner side of one of the side frame members, a top complementary bracket hinged on the said side frame member and engageable on the said bracket, a means for holding the said bracket together, a spacer rod engaged between the brackets and in a central aperture formed in the brackets, a cross pin in the spacer rod and engaging in one pair of a plurality of pairs of apertures formed in the brackets, a bushing threadedly mounted on the free end of the spacer rod and rotatively mounted in the other of the said side frame members, and a nut threadedly engaged on the spacer rod and abutting the bushin signature.
