This invention relates to improvements in files, file folders, and afiling system particularly adapted for use by the clergy, or others, including 'missionaries, and others dealing with subjects relating to the Bible.

An object of the invention is to provide a completely indexed file for subject-inatters relating to the Bible, in which reference may be made to the information contained in the Bible from three different aspects, in order that information relative to or pertaining to some particular subject-matter of the Bible for some special purpose may be readily obtained for use.

A further obiect of the invention resides in providing a file in which the index cards are arranged in groups and wherein each index card is provided with suitable extensions for receiving the indexing indicia and in which each of the extensions is formed on each card in a predetermined manner in order that the extensions on the cards will be successively offset relative to 5 one another and the projections on spaced cards will be arranged in alined relation in a predetermined manner in order to provide a clear view and ready access to all of the major portions of the file for obtaining information of a desired character, the main divisions of the file being separated by a special index card, having a. height greater than the index cards provided with the extension, in order to clearly separate and des- 5 ignate one measured division of the systern relative to the other.

' The invention includes numerous other objects residing in the structure of the file and the file folders for carrying out the fea- 40 tures of this invention to provide a highly useful index file for subjects. relating to the Bible, all of which are more particularly pointed out in the following detailed description and claims, directed to the preferred form of the invention, it being understood, however, that various changes in the size, shape and relation of the parts and the manner of assembling the file, may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as herein set forth.

The Biblical division 3 of the file comprises a group of cards and folders, as illus trated, one 'group being shown in Fig. 2, and comprising a plurality of folders as shown in Fig. 5, and indicated generally at 8. These folders 8 include front walls 9 and rear walls 10 formed from a single sheet of material having a connecting portion 11 suitably fold ed into a substantially V-shape between the lower edges of the front and rear walls and in inverted relation.

The lower edge of this main divider is provided with an extension 6 formed with an opening 15, so that itniay receive a suitable rod for retaining the file card locked in the drawer.

The topical division as well as the special subject division of the file are constructed in the same manner as the Biblical division, a group of file folders identified and associated with one index card being shown in 3, in which a suitable index letter 18 is provided on the index card, and similar letter and vowel indicia 19 are provided on the extension of each folder of the group so that topics relative to the Bible may be filed in accordance, with the alphabet and in alphabetical order in each group with a further indexing in accordance with the vowel of the first word of the title for the subject.

In this way ready access is provided to obtain information relative to :any subject matter in the file, for desired topics.

In the special subject division 5 of the file, the extensions on the index cards are provided with suitable indicia to indicate special subjects illustrated .at 19 .in Fig.

1, relating to the subject matter of the "Bible for use on special occasions, as is frequently necessary for special sermons, addresses and the like, -1 ade by preachers, missionaries, and so forth.

In each of the main sections 3,4 and 5, of the "file the folders 8 are used in conjunction with the index cards 13 in groups as heretofore described, so that the upper ends of the extensions on the folder terminate "in the'horizontal plane with the'upper edges of the index cards while the upper ends of the extensions on the index cards terminate in the substantially horizontal plane'of the upper edges of ithe main division cards 6. i

In this way, a gmost accessible form of file sstructure is provided ito permit ready reference to theindependent indexes for :the several groups and subdivisions of the subjectmatter'as well as the files, in orderto obtain information fromoneofthe files relative to a desired subject matterin the Bible.

This :file provides three different methods of obtaining information relative to predetermined -;portions of the Bible according to the desired character of information considered from the point of view of the use for which it is designed, and thus provides an exceedingly convenient index for Biblical subject matters.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is An index file, comprising a container, a plurality of groups of folders of uniform size in said container and arranged in vertical relation, each of said folders having a projection extending from the upper edge thereof, said projections being located in ofi'set relation, a plurality of index cards separating the groups of folders in said container having the upper edges terminating in substantially the same horizontal plane as the upper ends of said projections on said folders, said index cards having projections extending upwardly from the upper edge thereof, said index cards having the extensions arranged in a plurality of rows, and the extensions on adjacent cards offset relative to one another, and a plurality of main division cards mounted in said container and dividing the files and index cards therein into a plurality of independent sections, the upper edges of said main division cards terminating substantially in the same horizontal plane as the upper ends of the extensions on said index cards, whereby to display indicia on the body of the main division cards above the body of said index card, said main division cards having extensions projecting upwardly above the upper edge thereof.
