C.F.BATH LIFTING JACK Filed Nov. 1, 1927 Patente-cly Sept. 17, 1929 UNITED STATESL CHRISTIAN F. BATH, or ABILENEKANSAS LIFTING JACK Application filed November 1, 1927. Serial No. 280,362.y f
The present invention is directed to improvements in lifting jacks.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a. device of this character constructed in such manner that a piano or other article of furniture can be lifted in order that floor coverings may be placed thereunder.
Another object of the invention is to provide al device of this type which is simple in construction, durable, efficient in' operation and one which can be manufactured at a very small cost.
Another object of the invention is to provide a jack for this purpose which can be operated with very little effort on the part of the user and held in its operative position with ease, while the floor covering is being properly placed thereunder.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1. is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 2 is a view partly in elevation and partly in section.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary detail vertical sectional view.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a base plate and 2 a pedestal, said pedestal being formed from a single strap of metal so bent as to provide spaced sides 3-3 connected at their upper ends by a top 4 having a slot 5 formed therein, the purpose of which will be later explained The lower ends of the sides 3 terminate in horizontal flanges 5 which are secured to the base plate 1 by rivets 6.
The lifting bar 6 includes a vertically disposed shank 7 capable of sliding in the slot 5, said shank having its lower end provided with a horizontall disposedy extension 8` upon which is welc ed a foot plate 9. The shank 7 is provided with a vertical slot 10 for slidablyengaging the cross bolt 11 sup'- ported by the sides 3-,3,'said bolt serving to guide the lifting bar during the movement thereof. They shank has fixed thereto a purpose fof which will be 'It will be obvious that when the lever 15 is swung downwardly the lifting bark 6 andy the foot plate 9 will be elevated owing to the fact that the inner end of the lever engages the lug 12, and upon placing the foot plate 9 under a piano or other article the same can be conveniently lifted,
Upon reference to Figure 4 it will be oby served that the shank 7 lies adjacent one of the sides 3 and the slot 5 is offset to accommodate said shank. n
From the foregoing description itwill be' seen that a jack has been provided which is extremely simple in construction and one which can be easily and quickly kplaced in a l rposition to permit the foot plate9 to engage under the article to be lifted, the construc- 'y tion being suchthat very little effort will be' required to elevate the lifting bar and foot plate. Having thus `described the invention, Ik n s 85.
claim: s f, f
A lifting 'jack comprising a base, a pedestal consisting of a pair of spaced sides having their lower ends yfixed to the base, a top connectingssthe upper ends of the sides and having an opening therein, a lifting bar slidable in the opening` and upon one of said sides to provide a space between the bar and other side, a lug Xed nteimediete the ends of the bar and extending into said space, said bar having a slot therein, e bolt. supported by the sides for slidably engaging the slot, a cross bolt Supported by the sides, a lever removably engaged in the space and havin@r a recess therein for pivotally and detachaly engaging the cross boit.
In testimony whereof I ax Inv signature.
