Description

' JUNCTION BLOCK FOR ELECTRIC CONDUCTORS F iled March 3, 1927 c Mrenfor:
Patented Sept. 17, 1929 PATENT OFFICE ALOIS BI l'RLI, OF LU'CERNE, SWITZERLAND JUNCTION BLOCK FOR ELECTRIC CONDUCTORS Application filed March 3, 1927, Serial No.
This invention relates to a junction block for electric conductors and of the kind composed of a plurality of insulating blocks which are threaded on screw-bolts and recessed for the reception of the metal terminals to which the cables are secured.
In a known device of this kind the terminals are in the form of split sockets and plugs which are clamped together under the action of the screws on which the insulating blocks are threaded.
According to the invention the terminals, which are in the form of plain rectangular blocks, are loosely held between recessed flanges of adjacent insulating blocks and are fitted with screws whereby the cables are secured to the blocks.
To accommodate cables and terminals of different sizes without variation in the blocks themselves, distancing pieces are employed which are threaded on the screw-bolts.
Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings represents a sideview of the arrangement,
Fig. 2, a plan of the same,
Fig. 3, a section seen in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1,
Fig. 4, a perspective View of a distancing piece, and
Fig. 5, a side view of the separated insulators without the clamp.
The device is composed of a series of insulating blocks which are threaded on two screw bolts (2 and clamped together by means of nuts I). There are two end blocks 0 and one or more intermediary blocks 0, all formed with flanges between which metal clamps e for the electric conductors are located. The flanges are recessed so as to form shoulders m whereby the clamps are held firmly in position without other fastening means.
The clamps are in the form of plain rectangular blocks fitted with screws for connection to the cables.
To allow for diflerent sizes of clamps and conductors, distancing pieces 0' are provided which, like the blocks, are formed with apertures d for the screw bolts a. By this arrangement the distance between the flanges. can be varied to suit the thickness 172,529, and. in Germany March 20, 1926.
of the metal clamps. Fig. 1 shows two sizes of clamps in use. The conductors are introduced into the clamps from opposite sides and secured by means of clamp screws it. Any number of conductors may be connected up in this manner. v
The assembled insulators and clamps may be enclosed in a metal cover for the fastening of which the end blocks 0 are provided with screw-holes 9. There are also holes 9' and a recess f for the reception of screws and a clamp if the cover is to be earthed.
I claim: In a junction block for electric conductors, the combination with a plurality of insulating members and with screw bolts whereon said members are threaded, of recessed flanges formed on said insulating members, plain rectangular terminal members arranged between the flanges of adjacent insulating members so as to be protected by the flanges and retained in the recesses, the distance between the faces of adjacent insulating members being greater than the thickness of the terminal members so that the latter will be loosely supported between the flanges, and distancing pieces threaded on the bolts below the insulating members for varying the distances between adjacent flanges.
ALOIS BURLI.
