  • This invention relates to conveyors of that type to be used in construction work on roads, in building tunnels, etc., and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a conveyer of the class referred to with a new and improved scraper means positioned at the lower or material receiving end of the belt or elevator of the conveyer, to prevent mud and dirt from lodging on the inside thereof and adhering to the roller for the belt, and further for cleaning any adhering dirt from the roller during the revolving thereof, whereby the conveyer will not become clogged and its operation retarded.

' This invention relates to conveyors of that type to be used in construction work on roads, in building tunnels, etc., and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a conveyer of the class referred to with a new and improved scraper means positioned at the lower or material receiving end of the belt or elevator of the conveyer, to prevent mud and dirt from lodging on the inside thereof and adhering to the roller for the belt, and further for cleaning any adhering dirt from the roller during the revolving thereof, whereby the conveyer will not become clogged and its operation retarded.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner hereinafter set forth, a scraping element and its support for use in connection with a conveyerof the class referred to and for the purpose aforesaid, and whereby said scraper element and its support is comparatively simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly efficient in its use,
' readily installed with respect to the lower or material receiving end of the conveyor, and comparatively inexpensive to setup.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in View the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and'arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a fragmentary View in longitudinal section of the lower or receiving end of a conveyor showing the adaptation therewith of a scraping element and its support in accordance with this invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail and 2 indicate apair of adjustable supporting plates arranged at the lower or receiv ing end. of the conveyer. As is well known and as shownin my application Serial Number lei-7,061 thesaid supporting plates are carried or mounted upon foot blocks arranged in spaced parallel relation and positioned below the receiving end of the conveyer. With reference to Figural one of the side bars of the conveyer body is indicated at 3, one of the dirt guards at 4, one of the side plates at 5 which projects beyond the lower end of theconveyer body and is connected to the dirt guard 4. The lower roller for the belt. or elevator? is indicated at 8 and is mounted in bearings 9 formed on the plates 1, 2. The elements 8 to 8 are of known construction and form no part of the invention forming'the subject matter of th s application. The elements 3 to 8 are illustrated for the purpose of showing the adaptation of the scraper element and its supporting means, in accordance with this invention, with respect to the lower or receiving end of the conveyer. The elements 3 to 8 are constructively referred to in my application 147,061 and it is thought unnecessary to specifically describe the ar rangement and function thereof in this application. I
The adjustable supporting plate 1, as well u .as the plate 2 comprises aforward and a rear portion 10,11 respectively and with the former of'less width'than the latter. The bearings 9 are carried by the forward portions 10 ofthe plates 1 and 2 and project from each side edge thereof. The roller 8 has reduced end portions 12 which extend approximately centrally thereof.

The rear portion 110i the plate 1, as well as the rear portion 11 of the plate 2, is formed with a pair of spaced slots 15 disposed lengthwise thereof. The outer side of each rear portion 11, intermediate its ends is formed with an integral upstanding apertured lug 16} The rear end of each portion 11 is formed with an up standing apertured lug-17. Each lug 17 has coacting therewith an adjusting screw 18. The lugs 16, 17 and screws 18 function for the same purpose as that set forth in my application Serial Number 147,061 and form no part of the invention of this application. Ascraper element in accordance with this invention comprises a one-piece body por- 19 is ;of slightly less length than the length of the roller 8. The body portion 19 at its top andbottom is provided with a scraper edgeas indicated at 20, 21 respectively.
,Disposed atthe longitudinal median of the rear, face of the body portion 19 are integral rearwardly extending spaced lugs arranged 1n pairs and with the lugs of one pair indicated at 22 and the lugs of the other pair at-23. The lugs of each pair are arranged in opposed spaced relation and the outer lug ofeach pair is positioned in proximity to and end-of the body portion Eachlug of each pair is provided withaan opening .24 disposed in alignment with, the longitudinal median of the body portion 19. Each lug of each pair is further formed with a rearwardly directed opening 25 having a threaded wall and which communicates with the opening 2 1 Threadedly engaging with the wall of each open- .ing 25 is a rearwardly directed binding screw 26.
Associated with each end or" the body portion 19 is means for suspendingly supporting the scraper element inactive position with respect to the roller 8 and saidvmeans is bodily adjusted for the purpose of adjustably positioning the scraper element 20 with respect to the roller 8. The means associated with each end of the scraper ele ment for suspendingly supporting it consists of a bar27 for extension through a pair of lugs 22 and which is fixedly secured to the lugs by the set or binding screws 26. The outer end of the bar 27 is integral with theupper face of the enlarged outer end 28 of a fiat plate 29 provided with a pair of spaced lengthwise extending slots 30 for registration with theslots 15,
in a plate 1 or 2. The plate 29 is positioned upon the upper face of the rear por tion 11 of the plate 1 or 2 and is adjustably connected thereto by vertically disposed bolts' 31 carryin clamping nuts 32. The bolts 31 extend up through the registering slots 15, 30 and the nuts 32 engage the upper faces of the plates 29 whereby the supporting means for the scraper element ispfixedly secured in its adjusted position.
It is thoughtthe many advantages of a scraper element and its support, in accordance with this invention, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood a one-piece scraper element of arcuate transverse cross section having a scraping edge at each side thereof to oppose the top and bottom of the roller with which it 'is associated, apertured lugs projecting rearwardly from said element near each end thereof and between said edges, an adjustable support for each end of said element extending through said lugs, and means for fixedly securing the supports to said element.
2. A scraping means for the lower roller of an endless conveyor or belt comprising a one-piece, concave scraper element upon the same are throughout in transverse section, a support for each end of said element positioned rearwardly thereof, means for "fixedly securing the supports to said element at the rear of each end of the latter, and means to provide for the ad ustment or" said supports and for fix ng them in ad usted position.
,3. A scraping means for the lower roller of, an endless conveyer or belt comprising a one-piece scraper elementof arcuate transverse section, said element being oi uniform width and concave to overlie the top and bottom oi the roller with which it is associated, a support for each end of said element, said supports arranged rearwardly of said element and 'each having a part thereof opposing the longitudinal median of the element at the rear thereof, means fordetachably connecting said parts to said element at the rear thereof, and means for adjustably securing said supports in position.
4. A scraping means for the lower roller of an endless conveyer or belt comprising a one-piece scraper element of arcuate cross section and of uniform width, positioned on a lengthwise edge and having a scraping edge at each side thereof, a pair of adjustable supports, each of said supports includ ing a base part arranged rearwardly of and at right angles to said element and a forward part disposed at right angles to the base part and opposing the longitudinal median of said element, and means for detachably connecting said forward part to said element.
5. A scraping means for the lower roller of an endless conveyer or belt comprising a onepiece, concave scraper element upon the same are throughout in transverse section, apertured means integral with and projecting rearwardly from said element near each end of the latter, and adjustable means arranged rearwardly of said element and having inwardly projecting, right angularly disposed parts extending through and secured to said apertured means and providing a supporting structure for suspending said element.
6. A scraping means for the lower roller of an endless conveyer or belt comprising a one-piece, concave scraper element upon the same are throughout in transverse cross section and having a scraping edge at each side thereof, and said element being further provided with spaced means projecting rearwardly therefrom near each end thereof for connection to a suspension means for said element.
7. A scraping means for the lower roller of an endless conveyer or belt comprising a one-piece scraper element of concave transverse cross section for disposing lengthwise thereof with respect to the rear of the roller and of a width to oppose the top and bottom of the roller, and means secured to the rear of said element at each end of the latter to provide a supporting structure therefor to suspend the element with respect to the roller.
8. A scraping means for the lower roller of an endless conveyer or belt comprising a one-piece scraper element of uniform width and of concave transverse cross section for positioning lengthwise of the rear of the roller, and adjustable means detachably connected in said element between its upper and lower edge at each end thereof for suspend ingly supporting it in active position with respect to the roller.
9. A scraping means for the lower roller of an endless conveyer or belt comprising a one-piece scraper element of concave cross section having a scraping edge at each side thereof, said element conforming in curvature to that of the roller and having its scraping edges disposed for positioning upon the rear of the top and bottom of the roller, ad- I justable coupling means integral with and projecting rearwardly from the rear face of hereto.
