UNIT-ED ism-ES 'PATENT OFFIGZE# lALBIN WARTH, OF srArLEToN, New YORK.
- IMPRovEMENT IN MECHANICAL MovE'MENTs;
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,803.. dated J annary 25, 1876; application led December 2B, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBIN WARTH, of Stapleton, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mechanical Movement, which invention is fullyset forth in the following` specication, reference being had to the .accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l represents a side view. Fig. 2 is a plan or top View.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to certain improvements on a mechanical movement which I have described in my Patent No. 151,457, dated May 26,1874 Vand which consists, essentially, of a carriage which is acted on by a traveling belt that receives a continuous motion from some source, said carriage being provided with a vpulley and with a swivelstandard, the swivel-standard form-ingr the' bearing for a rod, which connects the carriage with a working. machine, to which the pulley serves to transmit motion.
My present improvement consists in the combination, with the traveling belt and with the carriage, of a rail supported by standards which rise from the work table or bench, said carriage being provided with a clamp for throwing it into gear with thetraveling belt, with a power-transmitting pulley, and with a depending swivel-standard, forming the bearing for a rod that connects with the working machine, so that said working-machine can be moved cleary round under the guide-rail of the carriage, and underA the traveling belt, and thereby the conveniencein operating the working machine is materially improved.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a table, to whichare secured two standards, "B'
B, which support the guide-rail C ofthe carriage D. p i
This carriage may7 be constructed in the form of a simple tube, which slides freely on vthe rail C; or it may be furnished'with friction-rollersbearing on the guide-rail, so as to facilitate its motion; or it may be constructed inany suitable manner.
From this carriage extends a depending arbor, F, on which turns an arm, E, which carries two rollers,a, a, and which can be retained On the depending arbor are mounted loosely two pulleys, g h. n
The pulley g is situated between the two rollersaa, of the arm E, in the plane of a belt,
H, which is stretched over a pulley, t', secured to a hanger which depends from the rail C, and A it (the belt) runs over two pulleys, j j, to a pulley, k, whichis mounted on the drivingshaft Z. v
The pulleys i and jj are so arranged-'that the belt H moves loosely. past the pulley g,
but, by turning the arm E, the rollers c c on said arm press the belt H up against` the pulley g, and the motion of said belt isl transmitted'to this pulley. f y
rlhe pulley h is firmly connected. to the pulley g, and av belt, m,stretched over said pulley h transmits the motion tothe working u machine.
By this arrangement the working machine can .be moved over the tableA in any desired direction, and vit can be swung clear round in a circle without throwing it' gear with the traveling belt.
My mechanical movement is `designed par- 'l ticularly for the purpose of imparting .motion to machines for cutting textile and other materials, and I have found that in cutting `goods which are two yards (more or less) wideit is very desirable that the .cutting mechanism can be moved freely under the traveling belt, so that the operator` can conven-v iently handle the samefrorn both sides of the table A. l
What I claim as new, and desire to .secure by Letters Patent, is
In a mechanical movement composed of a traveling belt, `a carriage which connects with the working machine, andaclamping'device for throwing the traveling belt in gear with the carriage, I claim the combination,
with the traveling belt and the carriage, of a g rail supported by standards above the work out of I table or bench. said carriage being provided with :t clamp for throwing it in gear with the traveling belt, with a. y power-transmitting pulley, and with a. depending swivel-standard, forming 'che bearing for a rod that connects with the Working machine, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony thet I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hanl and seal this 18th day of December, 1875.
