My invention relates to and has for apurpose the provision of a resting device characterized by the simplicity and durability of its construction and its capability of comfortably supporting the head or other portion of a persons body, so that in any instance in which a person is required to maintain substantially one and the same, position for a period of time, such as, for example, in beauty parlors wherein a person receiving a permanent hair wave is required'to maintain, for a period of time, a predetermined seated position with a multiplicity of heavy electrodes attached to the hair, the head of the person l5 can be comfortably supported in a restful position, thus entirely eliminating the fatigue and discomfort usually associated with this operation.
It is a further purpose of my invention to provide a resting device of the above described character which is capable of being secured in a predetermined position to a support with the utmost ease and dispatch, and is capable of being readily adjusted to accommodate portions of the'body of diiferent dimensions.
I will describe only one form of resting device embodying my invention, and will then point out the novel features thereof in claims.

invention in its present embodiment comprises a pair of arms A and A constructed of strap metal of rectangular cross section, the arms being relatively movable, and to this end the arm A is pivotally connected at one' eX- tremity tothe arm A by means of a headed pin 10 extending through plates 11 and 12 secured by rivets 13 to the arm A. The free extremities of the arms A and A are bent to provide yoke sections 14 and 15 respectively, which co-op'erate to provide a yoke Y ofsub-l stantially semi-circular contour, in which'thev head or neck or other portionv of ya persons body is adapted to be received and supported. The yoke sections 14 and 15 are covered with an inner layer of electrical insulation 16 such as rubber, an intermediate layer of padding or cushioning material 17 such as felt,7and an outer wear resisting layer18 preferably of leather, to the end that the yoke will provide a comfortable cushioned support.. y
The pivotal connection of thearm A to the arm A provides for relative adjustment of the arms to vary the size of the opening of the yoke Y so asto comfortably accommodate in the yoke, portions of persons bodies of different dimensions, and inthe present in-V stance, the arm A is normally urged outward-v lyfrom the arm A by means of aspring 19 so as to normally tend to increase the size of the yoke opening. The spring 19 is formed from a length of fiat springmetal bent upon itself intermediate its ends to `provide a pair of spring members, and is interposed between the armsA and A with the connected end of the spring members projecting between 'the plates 11 'and 12,*and the free endl offone'of the members provided with an angularly disposed lip 20 seating in a socket 21 formed in the inner side of the arm A', to the end that displacement of the spring will be prevented.
The arms A andA are capable of being manually adjustedinwardly of each other to v decrease thevsize of the yoke. opening, and retained in a selected position of adjustment, by means of an adjusting screw 22 threadedly mounted in a, bracket 23 of yU form, having parallel portions 24 securedfat their free ein j tremities to the arm A by a rivet 25,andslidably receiving the arm A', the adjusting screw 22 bearing againstthe outer side of the latter arm so that rotation of the' screw one direction will force the arm A inwardly against the action'of the spring 19, while rotation of the screw in the opposite direction willpermit the arm A to be forced outwardly bythe .Sprns- The restingr device as above described 1s adapted to be secured to a support such as,
for example, the standard 26 of a permanent hair waving machine (not shown) to rigidly support the device at the proper height for therreception of the neck of a person in the yoke Y while the person is seated in a chair in advance of the standard 26.k To this end, the armrA is extended to provide ai vclamping element 27, while a second clamping element 28 is pivotedat rone extremity between the plates 1l and l2 by means of a headed pin 29.
The clamping elements 27 and 28m-operate to provide a clamp adapted to embrace the standard 26, and to maintain the elements ink embracing relation to the standard and yet permit vertical adjustment of the device on the standard to accommodate persons of different heights, 'a threaded 'stud 30 is pivoted at 3l on theffree extremity ofthe clamping element 27 and is adapted to be freely received in a bifurcation 32 formed in the free extremity of the clamping element 28. Although I have herein shown and described only one form of resting device em- ,bodyingk my invention, it is to be understood l that'various. changes and modifications may be lmade therein ywithout departing from the spiritl ofthe invention. and the spirit and scope of the appended claims. i

1.r A device of the ,character described `comprising a pair of arms having vportions cooperating ,to provide a yoke, means by which thearms can be secured to a support for the resting of the head or neck of a person in the yoke, the arms being adjustable relativer to each other to vary the size of the yoke opening so as to accommodate heads or necks ofdifferent sizes in the yoke, means for normally urging the arms outwardly from eachother to increasethe yoke opening, a bracket secured to one of the arms, and an adjusting screw threaded in the bracket and engaging c the other arm, forvadjusting the armsinwardly of eachother to decreasethe yoke `opening and for retaining the arms in a selected position of adjustment against theaction 0f Vsaid kurging means.

A device of the character described comprising a pair of arms having portions co-opjusting the arms inwardly of each other to decrease the yoke opening and for retaining the arms in a selected position of adjustment against the action of'said urging means comprising a U shaped bracket having parallel portions secured to one of the arms and slidably receiving the other arm, and an adjusting screw threaded in the bracket and engaging the other arm..

A device of the character described comprising an arm having a yoke section on one extremity thereof, a second arm havinga yoke section on the free extremity thereof co-operating with the yoke section of the filrst arm to provide a yoke in which the head or neck of a person is adapted to rest, means for pivotally mounting the second arm on the first arm, said pivotal mounting of the second arm permitting adjustment of the latter relative to the first arm to vary the yoke opening, means for retaining the second arm in a selec-ted position of adjustment, and means for securing the arms Vto a support comprising a clamping element on the first arm, a second clamping element pivoted on the first arm and co-op.- erating with the first clamping element to provide a clamp adapted to grip the support, and means for securing the clamping elements in gripping relation to the support.

A device of the'character described comprising an arm having a padded yoke section on one extremity thereof, plates secured to thearm, a second arm havinga padded yoke section co-operating with lthe yoke section of the first arm to provide a yoke in which the head or neck of a person is adapted to rest, means for pivot-ally mounting the second arm between the plates, the pivotal mounting of the second arm permitting ad'- justment thereof relative to lthe first arm to vary the size of the yoke opening, means for retaining the second arm in a selectedposition of adjustment, and means by which the first arm is adapted to be secured to a support.

A device of the character describedl comprising an arm having a-padded yoke lseCtiori on one extremity thereof, plates secured to the arm, a second arm having a. padded yoke section co-operating with the yoke section of the first arm to provide a yoke in which the head or neck of a person is adapted to rest, means for pivotally mounting the second arm between the plates, the pivotal mounting of the second arm permitting adjustment thereof relative to the first arm to vary the size of the yoke opening, means for retaining the sec ond arm in a selected position of adjustment, and means by which the device is adapted to be secured to a support comprising an eXtension on the first arm constituting a clamping element, a second clamping element pivoted between said plates and co-operating with the first clamping element, and means for securing the clamping elements in clamping relation to the support.
6. A device of the character embodied in claim 5 wherein said means for retaniing the second arm in a selected position of adjuste ment comprises a spring interposed between the arms and normally urging the second arm outwardly from the lirst arm to increase the size of the yoke opening, and a U shaped bracket having parallel portions secured to the first arm and slidably receiving the second arm, and an adjusting screw threadedly mounted in the bracketand engaging the second arm to oppose the action of the spring.
