METI-IOD OF CONNECTING THE CI-IEEK-PIECE TO THE MOUTI-IPIECE OF BRIDLE-BITS.
Specfication of Letters Patent No. 17,268, dated May 12, 1857.
To all whom z't-may camera:
Be it known that I, KassoN FRAZER, of the city of Syracuse, in the county of (lnondaga and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bridle-Bits; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the construction thereof, reference beingl had to the anneX-ed drawings, makingI part of this specifieation. i
My invention consists in the method hereinafter described of connecting the cheekpiece of bridle bits to the mouth-piece.
To construct my invention, cast the mouth piece (i in the usual form, and havingl a Chamber (E) cast within the bulb at each end. At' each side of the Chamber (E) make a circular opening for receiving` the shank (C) of the cheek-piece (B) and pass a ri1nnier through the openings in order to make them trueand of the same diameter. Cast the cheek piece (B) with necks or grooves (D) upon that portion which is placed within the bulb of the mouth piece, and cut the Pass each part of the shank (C) into a cutting tool making them of the same diameter as the openings into the chamber of the bulb. Draw the shanks apart sutficiently to place them into the bulb, and cast in melted zine or other substance. Through an opening (F) in side of the bulb so that the same shall flow around and till the necks on' the shanks of the cheek piece, and also the chamber Within the bulb. y p
fit is obvious that as the melted metal becomes hardened by Cooling, the shanks will be firinly held together, and Within the bulb of the mouth piece. Heretofore the cheek pieces of bits have been placed within the mold and the mouth piece cast so as to em-' brace the slianks within the bulb, in Which :ase the-y are found to turn with ditficulty, and are often broken in the effort at turning the one within the other. By this method of connecting them, they are found to work easily without eramping, and may be plated separately before being Connected which great advantage.
What I claim as of my own invention and desire to secure by `Letters Patent, is-
Constructing cheek pieces of bridle bits by making a neck at each eXtremity within the ball of the mouth-piece, and securingI the same therein by means of tilling the chamber around the necks with metal or other composition substantially in.the manner and for the purpose set forth.
