rmsrrc COMPOSITION.
No Drawing. Appplication filed September 29, 1928, Serial No. 808,574; and in the Union of Soviet *Re ubiics February a, 1926.
My invention relates to plastic composi- 'tions and has aparticular reference to compositions made from waste fibrous materials, such as scrap leather, and to the process of manufacturing these compositions.
The object of my invention is to provide a composition suitable for manufacturing imitation leather, board, linoleum, paper, etc. Y For this purpose I am using waste material from leather manufacturing plants, such as scrap leather, leather dust etc. These ma-' terials are sorted out to separate foreign articles and are placed in a tank with water. I
-t1on, conslstlng in soaking and heating in Thistank is then heated until leather becomes softand expanded. If necessary the water may be brought to the boiling temperature. About 5% of sodium chloride (NaCl) can be added to the water in order toremove the fat from leather. ,This salt also tends to. render the finished product more supple.
In order to increase the plasticity of the product turpentine canjbe also added. By
adding paints or dyes into the mixture the finished product may be obtained of any desired color.
The mixture, when leather becomes thoroughly soaked and softened, is com ressed i-nto sheets and plates in cold or, pre erably, hot presses. The resultant material is very strong and resilient and can be used as a substitute for leather. 1
Cork can be added to the mixture in which case the product will'have properties of an ordinary linoleum.
For manufacturing paper the composition is compressed into logs or blocks of a size materials and the resultant pro uct possesses suitable for feeding into ordinary grinding and chipping machines in paper mills. The
I paper pulp made from these blocks is suitabIe for manufacturing paper and paper board of 'ordinary commercial grades and using ord nary paper mill machinery. Other fibrous materials can be added to the composition in any suitable quantities.
Important advantages of my composition arethat it utilizes cheap scra and waste good commercial merits.-
I claim as my invention: 1.- In a rocess of making plastic composiwater leather scrap, addingturpentine, and compressing same into sheets.
2. In a process of making plastic compos1tion,'consisting in soaking and heating in water leather scrap, adding sodium chloride and turpentine and compressing the resultant mixture into sheets.
3. In a process of making paper, consisting in soaking and heating in water leather scrap, adding turpentine, compressing same into blocks, and making pulp and paper from said blocks by ordinary processes used in the manufacture of paper.
4-. 'Aplastic composition, made of leather scrap, s'oak'edand heated in water with turpentine and compressedinto sheets.
5'. A plastic composition, made of leather scrap, soaked and heated in water with sodium chloride and turpentine, and compressed into sheets. I
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
