hanging.
A further object is to provide a device of this character that can be readily adjusted without loss of time, and with such precision and convenience thata single movementl thereof will aline the edge of the rule through its full length upon lthe margin line of the paper Without theoperator changing his position. j
vA further-object is to provide adevice of fa thisicharacter inv such relation to a paper pasting board that it may be readily folded outof the -way for pasting and other operations when not in use during the act of trim-' ming.
A further object is to provide a straight edge that may be used in .connection with a conventional form of slidable circular paper trimming knife.
A further object is to provide a paper trimming ruler having pivoted upon its upper face adjacent its opposite ends projecting arms susceptible of horizontal swinging movement having their forward portion bifurcated and hingedly pivoted at their outer ends, over the upper end of depending shafts rotatably and slidably engaged within upright sleeves which sleeves are rigidly attached at their lower extremities to the outer ends of forwardly extending bars having their inner ends slidably engaged Within sustaining guides secured to the underside of a conventional paper hangers pasting board.
l/Vith the above and other objects in View the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a top view of the rule and a portion of the pasting board, upon which it is mounted.
Figure 2 is an enlarged View of one end of the pasting board and the upper side of on end of the rule together with an upper side view of one member of the rule alining device.
Figure 3 is an end View of the ruler, a portion of the board and the alining device.
Figure et is an end view of a portion of the board and the-alining device showing their relative .normalposition when'folded to inoperative-position.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of one of the guides in which the supporting bars are slidablymounted and clamped.
Figure@ is anend view of the pasting board showing a recess below designed to contain the .ruler when the said board is folded for transportation.
. Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates a paper hangers pasting table, which table is preferablyformed from two longitudinal sectionshingedly connected at lal whereby vthey may be folded onto each other for compactness` for shipping and storage purposes. The under sides of the table sectionsare provided `with recesses l" which register when the sections are folded onto each other and form a longitudinal chamber for the reception of the straight edge and rule hereinafter set forth. Extending upwardly from one edge of the table is a bead 2, against which the strip of wallpaper engages for properly alining the same when placed on the table. Disposed on the table 1 is the combincd straight edge and rule 3, under which the paper is placed, and on one edge of which a scale 4 is printed or stamped so that the operator may utilize the same for measuring purposes. The upper face of the straight edge is provided with a guide groove 5 for guiding a cutter for trimming the edge of wallpaper beneath the straight edge. Pivotally mounted on the upper face of the straight edge, adjacent its end, are triangularly Shaped plates 6, oneof the ends of which is pivoted on the bolts 7 and held against pivotal movement by wing nuts 8, while the other ends of the plate are provided with arcuate slots through which bolts 10 extend, said slots being designated by the numeral 11.
The plates 6 are held against pivotal movement by means of wing nuts 9a, threaded 'on 100 the bolts 10. Pivotally connected at 12 to the plates 6 are outwardly extending arms 12a, the outer ends of which terminate in bifurcations 13, which are pivotally connected to the heads 14 of downwardly extending shafts 15, and 105 which shafts are rotatably mounted in upwardly extending sleeves 16 carried by the outwardly adjustable arms 17. Arms 17 extend inwardly and are slidably mounted in guides 18 in the under side of the paste board, 110
and it will be seen by adjusting the set screw 19 that thearms 17 may be securely clamped in any outward or inward adjusted position.-
VVben the straight edge is not in use it assumes the position shown in Figure 4, and at which imc it will be noted that it hangs downwardly in substantially a vertical plane and Vthe bifurcation 13 is sufficiently large whereby it will receive therein the Sleeve 16 and the end of the adjustable arm 17.
F rom the above it will be seen that a paper hanger-s straight edge-is provided which may be easilyvmoved to operative position or folcled to inoperative position and Vwhen the-device is removed it may be placed lin recesses between the board sections for shipping and storage purposes.
The invention having been set forth what is clainied'as new and useful is l parallel relation -to saidboard upon-the upper side thereof, arms-fpvted adjacent opposite ends of said rule, sleeved shafts hingedly carrying the outer :jends 0f said arms, vertically disposed sleeves engaging the said shafts, horizontal bars integrally supporting the lower ends of said sleeves at right angles thereto, and sustaininglguides disposed upon the lower side of said board and slidably engaging the said bars. l i' 2. A parallel alining device inconibination with a'paper hangers pasting' board, cornprising a paper trimming guide rule carried in-` parallel relationI to said boar'dnpon the upper. 'side'thereof, arms' Ipivoted adjacent opposite ends of saidrule, sleeved shafts hingcdly-carrying-the outer endsA of said arms,-
vertically disposed-sleeves engaging the shafts, horizontal `bars integrally supporting the lower ends of said sleeves at'-right angles thereto, sustaining guides disposed upon the lower side -o'ft's'aid'b'oard and slidablyengaging said bars, s'aid armsf being carried by plates pivoted atv one end'to said rule and having a slotA adjacent the opposite end adjustably engaging an-upwardly extended bolt protrudingT from said rule and engaging a threaded locking nutat its upper end.
' In testimonyV whereof I hereunto aliix -iny signature. f v
