SILHOUETTE CORSELET ENSEMBLE.
Application led January 16, 1928. Serial No. 247,141.
This invention relates to improvements in corsets.
rllhe general object of this invention is to provide a novel form of undergarment ensemble snit for Women which includes a combined corset and brassire.
Another object of this invention is to provide an improved corset so constructed that it will not stretch in one direction.
m A further object of this invention is to provide a novel pair of bloomers to be Worn With my improved corset and brassire.
Further objects and advantages of this in-- vention will be apparent from the following 15 description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a three-quarter frontview of a Woman Wearing one of my improved corselets.
Fig. 2 is a View similar to Fig. 1 showing the improved bloomers as they are worn over the corselet. Fig. 3 is a rear view of my corselet and Fig. 4 is a three-quarter frontr view of the improved corselet showing the garment unastened.
Referring to the drawings by reierenc characters I have indicated my improved undergarment generally at 10. This'garment which is made of suitable fabric, includes a corselet portion indicated at 11 and. a brassire portion indicated at 12. The corselet and brassire are preferably made of a single piece of material.
The corselet, which includes a vertical front or stomach section 111 which extends from the bottom of the garment to the brassire portion, when Worn comes just below' the bust. This front section includes vertically spaced non-stretchable fabric tapes 15 sevved to the garment material and preferably enclosed in a sheared covering for decorative purposes.
For ease of manipulation of the limbs, elastic portions 16 are provided adjacent the bottom ot the corselet over each thigh. These elastic portions are bordered by a non-stretchable`tape 17 which is similar to the tape on the front section, enclosed 1n sheared coverings for decorative purposes.
To allovv access to the garment the brasm siereis left open from the top center thereof, Where it is provided With a fastening member 18, diagonally as indicated at 19 to each corner of the front or stomach section titl 14, down each side or" the front section to a point spaced from the bottom of the corselet indicated at 20 in Fig. el.
Adjacent each side of the front section 14 Where the garment is open, the material is provided with spaced vertical non-stretch able tapes 21 upon each of 1which fastening members `22 are secured. The fastening members operate with fastening members 2:5 on the underside of each of the stomach tapes 15 and serve to secure the corselet together. lWhen the garment is fastened to gether the material of the corselet overlaps the full width of the front section 14 and the garment is held closed by the two verstretehable tapes 25. These tapes preferably each comprise a single piece bf material extend-ing. from the tape 21 around the garment to the edge of the front section 1a which borders the opening. The front section is preferably secured to the material over the tapes 25. The tapes 25 at the bottom of the garment up to the height of the elastic members 16 do not extend unbroken clear around the garment, but do extend unbroken from the border tapes 17 oi one elastic meniber to the border tapes of another elastic member.
For supporting the brassire I preferably provide shoulder straps 2G. Secured to each of, the vertical border tapes 17 of each oi' the elastic members 16, I preferablv provide elastic members 27 which extend beyond the bottom of the garment and are provided at their lower ends Withgripping members 28 to thus Jform garters for supporting the hose o'i' the wearer, as clearly Ashovvn in Figs. 1 and 2. l
Secured adjacent the bottom oi" the vertical side tapes of the front section 11 I pro vide extending elastic tapes 27 having gripping members 28 at their lower ends to form garter-s similar to the extensions 27.
The non-stretchable tapes 25 of the front section 14 retains the body of the wearer in 'the shape of the corselct Without the aid oi' the usual stift corset stays. These stays, heretofore used, are not comfortable and -do not allow the. freedom of movementI such as my improved garment. The wearer of my improved garment` l has the same freedom of movement of the limbs and torso as would ordinarily be'tlie case if the corselct was not Worn.
In Fig. 2 I have indicated at 30 a pair of improved bloomers which are adapted to be worn over my improved garment l0. These bloomers are preferablv made with an elastic Waist band 3l and adjacent the bottom of each of the legs I provide a plurality of tapes 32. The tapes 32 extend completely around the legs of the bloomers and are made of non-stretchable material which is secured to the bloomer base material. These tapes 32 fit the legs of the wearer snugly and prevent the legs of the bloomers from crawling' up.
A garment of the .structure described, While it has the advantageous feature of closely following the form or figure of the Weareryalso serves to support the body of the wearer Wit-hout hindrance or binding during movement and at the same time performs all .of the functions desired in corselet and brassire structures.
If desired the vertical rows of fastening members 2l and 23 may be extended to the top of the brassire portion and the tapes (in that. case) top.
\ From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have' provided a novel form of undergarment which is simple in. construction and highly efficient in use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. An undergarment comprising a c orselet portion and a brassire portion, said corselet and brassire portions being made of a fabric material, said corselet portion being shaped to fit the form of the wearer and including side and rear portions and a front 0verlappin Y portion of double thickness, a plurality o spaced non-stretchable tapes eX- Would also extend to the tending around said garment and set-ured io said fabric material. said tapes extending onto said overlapping` portions, and means on said brassire and said coi-solei: to serine the edges of said overlapping,` portions togetlier.
2. An under-garment. coiuprisingy a eorselet portion and a brassire portion, said i and brassire portions beingn'iade of .Y rifle piece of single thickness base material, reinforcing means on said eorselet portion, .said reinforcing means includingr a plurality ofx spaced strips extending around said corselct portion and a pluralitj7 ol other strips ex tending from the bottom of said corselct portion to the juncture of the corselei'v portion and the brassire portion in. the iront ot' said garment, a resilient member inserted in said corselet portion adjacent the bottoni ot the garment on eaehside tliercofand sa id risilient members being bound on the sides and top by a non-stretchable tape, said tape engaging certain of said strips,
3. An undergarmcnt comprising a corsclct portion and a brassire portion, said corselet and brassire portions being made of' a fabH ric material, said corselet portion including;- side and rear portions and a front overlapping portion of double thickness, a plurality of spaced non-stretcliahle horizontal tapes extendingr around said corselet portion and secured to said fabric material, the overlapping edges of said front piece in said corselet portion being bound by non-stretcliable vertical tapes secured to said fabric over said horizontal tapes and extending from the bottom of said corsclet portion to the bottom of said brassire portion and means on said brassire portion *and said corselct portion to secure the edges of said overlapping porA tion together.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto aflix my signature.
ALMA. PECK MORIARVVY.
