With the above and other objects in view which will appearas the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined by the 'appended claims, it being understood'that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope ofthe claims.

The cap 20 has an annular fiange or shoulder 23 over which the instruck annular fiange or rib 24 of a casing 25 engages, the inner end of the casing being laterally hanged, as at 26, and fitted within a. counterbore 27 at the base of the outer reduced portion'28 of the head 5 and there secured by spinning or crimping the material thereover, as at 29. The cam extends into the milled or cut away portion of the locking bolt 10 and in conventional constructions, the end or shoulder 35 of the cam -engages the wall 36 of the locking bolt eut away portion s'o, that upon rotation of the cylinder ina counterclockwise direction with respect to Figure 2, it cams thereagainst to retract the locking bolt against its spring 13. With the cam engaging directly on the wall 36. of the locking bolt, the friction between the parts interferes with the free movement of theflocking bolt by its spring when the pressure on the key 18 isfreleased In the present invention, a lever member 37 of approximately L shape is mounted within the bore 6 with the vertical portion .of the L interposed between the cam 30 and the locking bolt shoulder or wall 36, the horizontal or short arm 38 of the lever being pivoted in an aperture or well 39 in the end wall 7 of the mounting head and the longarm of the L passing through the'cut away portion 0f the locking bolt with its extreme outer end directedor bent laterally, as at 40, to normally rest on the surface or shoulder 41 formed between the ends 34 and 35 of the cam steps. The bend 42 at the outer end of the long arm of the L forms a fulcrum point engaging the shoulder 36 of the locking bolt and the bend 43 forms a fulcrum point engaging the end 34 of the cam step-32.
The lever 37 eliminates rubbing of the cam across the face 36 of the bolt and the'curved surfaces 42 and 43 of the lever are so formed that the pressure at the points of contact are substantially normal to those surfaces in the direction that will most effectively rotatethe cylinder and slide the bolt, respectively,'thus diminishing friction between the parts. The
long end 31 of the first cam step at all times extends 'over the lever 37 to prevent its disengagement from the aperture 3 9 and to prevent the end of the lever within the milled slot of the bolt 10 from riding over the shoulder 36 should the bolt rotate in its bore.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, f it will be readily evident to those skilled in the art to which an invention of the character described pertains, that I have provided a novel and improved lock assembly whereby friction betweenthe cylinder and the locking bolt is reduced to a minimum and the return of the bolt and cylinder to normal locking position at all times is assured, and further that a better manner of securing the assembly within the' mounting head is obtained 1. In a lock, a mounting head, a key controlled cylinder rotatable within the mount- `ing head, a cam projection on the inner end `of the cylinder, a locking bolt slidable in ,the mounting head and having a shoulder,
and a lever member having a portion transversely interposed between the cam projection and said lockingbolt shoulder' whereby,
rotation of the cylinder actuates the-locking bolt.
2. In a lock, a mounting head, a key lcontrolled cylinder rotatable within the mountinner end ofthe cylinder, the ends of the,
second step of the cam terminating inwardly vof the adjacent ends' of the first step of the cam, a locking bolt slidable inthe mounting head adjacent the inner end of the cylinder and having a medial cut away portion into which the cylinder cam projection extends, and a pivoted lever member having its free end disposed between one end of the cam and one end wall of the bolt cut away portion.
