My invention relates to flush tanks, such as are used in connection with toilets, and it consists in the I combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a removable guide means for a flush valve,
:so formed as 't'oguide the flush valve directly to its seat, thus preventing possible off-seating of the flush valve. V I
A further object of the invention is to provide a stop means for the flush valve, the stop means preventing unnecessary movement of the flush valve and its associated parts.
A further object of the invention is to provide a float valve, arranged to prevent overflow of the container when the .valve is seated.
A further object of the invention is to provide anarrangement for removably securing the float valve holding means to the cover 1, showing the apparatus in plate of the container.
A further object. is to provide in a device of the above mentioned character, means for positive operation, in varying water pressures. I p
A further object is to provide an arrangement of parts, so simple in construction that even those unskilled in the practice may make repairs, and replace worn parts. H

In carrying out the invention use is made of a container 1,,which may be of any conventional form; A gasket 2 and a coverplate 3 are secured upon the top of the container 1 by means of screws 4, or other suitable fastenings.
A water supply pipe 5 is introduced at the bottom of the container 1, and is provided with a shut-01f valve 6.

A pair of spaced apart downwardly pro- I jecting lugs 7 are secured to the cover-plate 3 within the container. These lugs are formed with arcuate slots 8 to receive and retain the ends of'a pivot shaft 9 to which is secured a rocker arm 9, and to permit the ready removal 01' said shaft.
One end of therocker arm 9 terminates in a ring portion 10, whichis adapted toreceive a float valve 28. A groove 11 is'formed in the opposite end of the rockerarm 9 to receive a connecting link 19. The groove 11 is of a V shape and permits, ease of assembly.
An outlet pipe 12 is positioned :in the bottom of the container 1, and has its upper end formed to provide a seat18 for a flush valve 14. A water tight. joint is made between the outlet pipe 12 and thebottom of the container 1, by means of a lock nut 15 and-suitable washers 16. V 1
A valve stem 17 is'screw'threaded or otherwise convenientlyfastened into the top of the valve '14. The free upper end of the valve stem 17 is turned or bent substantially at a right angle to the body of the stem form v ing a stop 18.
a A wire link 19 connects the rocker arm'9 with the valve stem 17. The link 19 is formed at its upper end with an eyelet-2O to'engage in the groove 11 of the rocker arm 9. The opposite end is also formed into an eyelet 21 and is then turned ata right angle to the body of the'link 19. The valve stem '17 is received by the eyelet 21, and is slidable therethrough. The stop 18 is engaged by the eyelet 21 when the link 19 is raised due to action of a push rod 30 which is operated to lift the flush valve 14.
In order that the flush valve 14 may b located and held in alignment above the outlet pipe 12 during its upward. and downward movement, provision is made of a guide bar 22 having an enlargement 23 intern'lediate its 1 ends. A flared valve seat 29 is disposed immediately above the float valve 28, and is provided with an elongated sleeve extending through the cover plate 3 forming a vent for the container 1. Suitable fastening and packing means secure the valve seat 29 to the coverplate 3.
A push rod 30 is connected with the float valve 28 and is provided with a hand piece 31 at its upper end. A shield 32, having a re movable cover provided with an inwardly projecting hub portion 33, forms a guide means for the push-rod 30. sufliclent clearance 1s allowed between the push-rod 30 and the hub portion 33 to permit the passage of air into and out of the container 1. A flange 34 of the shield 32 permits fastening the shield to the cover plate. 1
As a further safeguard to the possible overflow of thecontainer 1, due to the float valve 28 becoming water-dogged, or off-seated, for any reason, provision is made of an overflow drain tube 35. The drain tube 35 has its up per end secured in thecover plate 3 and is in communication with the chamber formed by the walls of-the shield 32. The drain cX tends downwardly and passes through an opening in the bottom of the container 1 to connect with the outlet pipe 12 below the flush valve seat. A suitable washer and lock-nut 36 provide a water-tight connection for the drain tube 35 and the container 1. Thus it will be readily understood that any water escaping past the float valve 28, and its seat 29, will be drained directly into the outlet pipe 12.
In operation, downward pressure is exerted by the hand upon the member 31, unseating the float valve 28, rocking the lever arm 19 and through the link and stem connections lifting the flush valve 14 from the seat 13.
Water now flows out of the container 1 by way of the outlet pipe 12, to perform the flushing operation.
r The opening of the vent which is controlled: by the float valve 28 permits the escape of air which is confined above the water, relieving pressure, and allows water.
to flow into the inlet pipe v5. The water however flows out faster through the discharge pipe 13 so as topermit an efficient flushing operation.
When the valve 14- has descended far enough to shut off the discharge pipe water will continue to flow into the. container until it reaches the float valve 28. It will carry up the float valve to its seat, and thus shut off the vent in the top of the container. The water will continue to flow into the container and will compress the airin the upper part of the container until the pressure of the incoming water is equalized by the air pressure in the top ofthe container.
Various changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from my invention and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details setfortlrbnt consider myself at liberty valve stem for said valvearranged to pass through said opening, and means for lifting said valve stem.
2. A flush tank comprising a container having an outlet opening, a valve for normally closing the outletopening,-a guide member disposed above said valve, means carried by the walls of the container for releasably holding-said guide member, said guide member having an opening, "a valve stem for said valve arranged to pass throughsaid opening, and means for lifting said valve stem.
3. A flush tank comprising container hav ing an outlet, a valve for normally closing the said outlet, guide means disposed within said container above said valve and in position to act as a stop member for the valve, means carried by the walls of the container forreleasably holding said guide member, a valve stem for said valve arranged to. be guided in its movement by said guide members, and means for lifting said valve stem.
4. In a flush tank, a container, alever pivotally and removably mounted within the container, a discharge outlet, a valve for normally closing said discharge outlet and having connections to said lever, a ring. seat at the end of said lever, a float removably carried by said ring seat and a pushrod carried by the float, and extending through the top of the container for operating the lever to cause the raising of the outlet valve.
