IMPROVEMENT IN EMERY-WHEELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,162, dated January 11, 1876; application filed I July 17, 1875.

The invention consists of an emery compo.
sition formed of the ingredients, in substantially the proportions and manner, hereinafter set forth, and in the mode of applying emery composition to wood and metal surfaces, hereinafter set forth and described-that is to say,
by tamping it, to said surfaces by numerous blows with a small hammer.
In the drawing, A represents the solid body of an emery-wheel, and B represents the emery composition applied to it.
In preparing my improved emery surfaces I take one pound of powdered rosin, one pound of white lead, two pounds of beach-clay, four and twelve pounds of emery.
The glue is dissolved in water, and the other ingredients are put in and thoroughly mixed together, enough water being used to reduce the mass to about the consistency of putty.
