MEAT GRINnEH Filed m. 2a, 1928 2 She'ets-Sheet 2 I Gamma Patented July 9, 1929.
UNITED STATES WALTER F. STI-MPSON, 0F LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
MEAT GRINDER.
Application filed January 23,.1928. Serial No. M8367.
The invention relates to motor driven meat grinders more particularly designed for butchers use and the invention consists in the novel features of construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the machine.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal section.
Figure f is a rear elevation with a section of the housing removed.
As shown A is a suitable base adapted for the mounting thereon of an electric motor B. C is a hollow standard secured to and rising from one end of the base being apertured at I) to receive therein a portion of the motor B. The upper portion of this hollow standard C has a substantially circular enlargement E for receiving a large gear wheel F meshing with a pinion G on the shaft of the motor, these parts constituting a step down or reduction gearing. The gear wheel F is mounted upon a shaft H which is journaled in hearings in the housing 0 which latter is provided with the extension I concentric with the shaft and overhanging the motor B. The outer end of the extension I has a hushed recess J forming a socket for receiving the shank K of the meat grinder L. This grinder may be of any suitable construction having the end of its grindershaft M fashioned for interlocking or clutch engagement with the shaft H as indicated at N.
The hollow standard C is preferably formed in two sections meeting in the plane of the gear wheel F and pinion G, the rear section G being removable for the insertion of said gear. To facilitate the alignment of the shaft H it is preferably supported. in babbitt bearings O and O the former being adjacent to the socket J and the latter in a removable bracket member P secured within he hollow standard. At the top and in the overhanging portion 1 there is placed a switch box Q for receiving any standard construction of control switch. for the motor. The conductors R from the switch Q, extend down into the base for connection with the motor and to the external connector cord S.
The construction described forms a very practical and stable construction and one which can be cheaply manufactured. The fact that a large portion of the weight is in the motor the center of gravity of which is low and arranged well within the boundaries of the base, gives stability to the Whole structure. Also the arrangement of the gearing so as to secure the proper speed reduction with a single pair of gears with the low speed shaft arranged above and parallel to the motor forms a simple and compact transmission. If' at any time it is necessary to disassemble the machine, the removal of the rear section C will afford access to all parts.
lit is not, however, necessary to remove this rear section to obtain access to the switch as this is inserted from the top into the box Q. This is desirable as an electric switch frequently requires attention or repair or re placement and with my construction it is not necessary to disassemble any other parts of the 1'1'1achine.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. The combination with a base and a motor mounted. thereon, of a hollow standard rising from said base apertured to receive a portion of said motor and having a forwardly pro jecting portion overhanging the motor recessed at its outer end to receive the shank of the grinder, a shaft having a coupling conpinion on the motor shaft and a large gear 35 wheel on the shaft coupled. to the grinder.
2. The combination with a base, a motor mounted thereon, a pinion on the mo tor shaft, a hollow standard rising from said base apertured to receive a portion of the motor and said pinion said housing being provided with a forwardly projecting portion overhanging said motor and recessed at its outer end to receive the shank of the grinder, the rear portion of said standard having a circular enlargement for receiving a large gear when in engagement with said pinion, a shaft on which said large gear is mounted projecting into said recess in alignment and coupled with the shaft of the grinder, a bracket forming a bearing for the rear portion of said shaft and a removable housing section for said standard providing access to the mechanism. within the same.
3. The combination with a base, of a motor 1 mounted thereon, a pinion on the motor shaft, a hollow standard rising from said base apertured to receive a portion of said motor and said pinion, said standard being enlarged above the base to receive a gear wheel in mesh with said pinion and also provided with a forwardly extending tapering portion overhanging said motor and recessed at its outer end to receive the shank of the grinder, a shaft on which said gear wheel is mounted extending into said recess and coupled to the grinder shaft and an electric switch for controlling, the motor arranged in a recess at the top of the forwardly projecting portion of said standard.
4. The combination with a base, of a motor mounted on said base, a pinion on the motor shaft, a hollow standard rising from said base apertured to receive a portion of said motor and its pinion, said standard having its upper portion enlarged and of segmental circular shape in rear elevation and tapering forwardly and concentrically with said segmental circular portion to form av portion overhanging the motor recessed at its forward end to receive the shank of the grinder, a gear wheel arranged in said segmental circular portion intermeshing with said pinion, a shaft on which said gear wheel is mounted extending into said forwardly projecting portion and coupled to the grinder shaft, and a removable section of said standard separating from the main portion thereof in the plane. of said grinder and pinion.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
WALTER F. STIMPSON.
