Description
LAZAREYVITCH.
Patented Jan. -1'1, 187e.
WITNESSES mmm UNITED STATES coNsTANTIN. LAZAEEVITOH, OE BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPRCVENlENT IN GRAIN-BAGS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. l72,039, dated January 11, 1876; application tiled October 8, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OoNsTANTIN LAZARE- VITCH, of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Grain- Bag, of which the following is a specification:
Figures l and 2 represent perspective views of my improved grain-bag, showing the same respectively in open and c losed position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
. The object of my invention is to furnish an improved grain-bag, by which the necessity of sewing up the mouth of the bag is obviated.
The present mode is very inconvenient and expensive, as, during severe cold weather in winter the sewers have to suspend labor, as their hands get benumbed, and thus cause delay in loading.
My invention is intended to remedy this inconvenience; and consists in making the bag in such a manner that a funnel-shaped part above the mouth of the4 bag is formed, the mouth being made narrower by closed shoulders on each side of the funnel. The funnel is reversed and forced into the grain, closing thereby the bag securely.
In the drawing, A represents a grain-bag of any suitable size and material, which is cut and sewed together in suoliA a manner that a funnel-'shaped part B is formed above the mouth of the bag. The funnel-shaped part B may also b e sewed on the bag when it is desired to apply the improvement to finished Y bags. The mouth is made narrower than that of the ordinary bag by sewing up the upper' edges and forming closed shoulders at each side of the funnel B. The funnel serves the double purpose of filling the bag in an easy manner, and of closing the saine when iilled, by reversing the funnel and pushing it through the mouth into. the center of the bag, thus closing the bag and preventing the grain from coming out. The equal pressure of the grain against the funnel holds it fast in such a manner that it cannot slide back. The grain is securely retained in the bag until, by with drawing the funnel, the bag may be emptied, being again available for use.
The purpose ot' the bag-shoulders protruding above the mouth is to resist thev pressure of the grain when the funnel-shaped neck isy reversed and thrust thereinto, and thus to hold the neck by contact pressure of the expressed grain around it. Y
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A grain-bag, provided with the funnelshaped neck B, as and for the purpose described.
2. The bag-shoulders C `on the side of a neck protruding thereabove, as `and-for the purpose specified.
CONSTANTIN LAZAREVITCH.
