I claim:
1. An apparatus of the character described. comprising a diaphragm having a nar-piece thereon, an armature shaft presented end wise toward the diaphragm and having a rotor upon its forward end for contact with said wear-piece, a case in which the rear portion of said armature shaft is journaled, a rigid ycross-bar at the rear of the case and having a portion bearing against but unconnected to the adjacent end of the armature shaft, spring means urging said shaft into contact with said cross-bar and a stud extending through said. cross liar and having a threaded engagement with said case for adjusting said crossbar toward the case.
2. An apparatus of the character described comprising a diaphragm having a wear-piece thereon, an armature shaft presented endwise toward the diaphragm and having a rotor upon its forward end for contact with said wear-piece, a case section in which the rear portion of said armature shaft is journaled, a rigid cross-bar at the rear of the case section and having a portion bearing against but un connected to the adjacent end of the. armature shaft, spring means urging said shaft into lcontact with said cross-bar and a stud en*- gaging the cross-bar at one side of the armature shaft and adjustable with respect to the case section for adjusting the said cross-bar toward the case-section to thereby adjust the armature shaft and rotor with respect to said wear-piece.
3. In a structure of the character described, a ci se section, a U-shaped case secured to said case section, a shaft journalod in said. case section and the rear Wall of the U-shaped case, a rigid cross-bar at the rear of the U-shaped case having a portion in contact with but unconnected to the adjacent end of the motor shaft, a headed stud engaging said cross bar at one side of said shaft and having an adjustable relation with the U-shaped ease, and a cover extending over the U-shaped case and having an opening through which the head of said stud is exposed.
7. An apparatus of the character described comprising a diaphragm having a Wear-piece thereon., an arniature shaft presented endwise toward the diaphragm and having a rotor lupon its forward end for contact with said nar-piece, a case in which the rear portion of said armature shaft is journaled, a crossbar at the rear ofthe ease and having a portion bearing against the adjacent end of the armature shaft, a .stud extending through said cross bar and having a threaded engagement with said case for adjusting said crossbar toward the case, and additional means for spacing the crossbar from t-he case.
8. An apparatus of the character described, cmrujn-ising a diaphragm having a. Wearpiece thereon, an armatureshaft, a rotor mounted on the front end of said armature shaft for engagernel'it with said Wear-piece, a case sec* tion inwhich the rear portion of said ar1nature shaft is journaled, and meansfor adjusting' said armature shaft toward the diaphragm to vary the overlap of said rotor en said Wear-piece comprising a cross bar at the rear of `the section, and. having a portion contacting with the rear end of the armature shaft, and a flanged portion engagediwith the case section, a threaded me1n ber extending through the cross-bar at one side of the armature shaft and having a threaded engagement with the case section, and a spring disposed upon the opposite side of the armature shaft from said member and positioned between the case section and the cross bar.

In an end thrust bearing for shafts, a cross wall., a sha-ft journaleiil in said erosswall, said cross-wall provided 'with an opening, a crosssbar extending substantially parallel with said cross wall and havingl a flanged portion positioned in said opening, a stud engaging said cross-bar upon one side of one shaft and having an adjustable engagement with said cross-wall, and spring means upon the opposite side of said shaft disposed bctween the cr( svvall and the crossbar for spacing the cross bar from the cross Wall.
10. ln an end thrust bearing for shafts, a cl'ossavall, a shaft journaled in said crosswall, .said cross-Wall provided with an open ing, a cross-bar extending substantially parallel with sai d cross-wall. and having a :lian ged portion positioned in said opening, a stud engaging said cross-bar upon one side of one shaft and having an adjustable engagemei'it with said cross-wall, spring means upon the opposite side of said shaft disposed between the cross-Wall and the crosebar for spacing the cross bar from the cross Wall, and a resilient' member for normally holding said inen'iber in contact with said erossbar.

An apparatus of the character `described comprising a diaphragm having a wear-piece thereon, an armature shaft, a rotor mounted on the front end of said armature shaft for engagement with said wearpiece, a case section in which the rear por tion of said armature shaft is jouriulled, means for adjusting said armature shaft toward the diaphragm to vary 'the over-lap of said. rotor on said wcarqiicce comin'ising a cross bar at the rear of the ease section and having a portion contact-ing with the rear end of the armature shaft, and a flanged portion enga-ged with the case section, a threaded member extending through the cross-bar at one side ot the armature shaft and having a threaded. engagement with. the case section, a spring disposed upon the opposite side of the armature shaft from said member and positioned. between the case section and the cross bar, and a casing enclosing the case section and having an opening through wliich. the end of said threaded member extends.

An apparatus of the character described comprising a diaphragm having a wear-piece thereon, an armature shaft, a rotor mounted on the front end of said armature shaft for engagement with said weer1n piece, a ease section in which the rear pruftinn lll) ofsaidl armature shaft is journaled, means for adjusting said armature shaft toward the diaphragm to vary the over-lap of said rotor on said wear-piece comprising a cross-bar at the rear of the case section and having a portion contacting with the rear end of the armature shaft, and a flanged portion engaged with the case section, a threaded member extending through the cross-bar at one side of the armature shaft and having a threaded engagement with the case section, a spring .disposed upon the opposite side of the armascribed comprising a case part, a diaphragm having a wear-piece thereon, a rotary armature shaft presented. endwi'se toward the diaphragm and journaled in said case part and having a rotor upon its forward end for engagement with said wear-piece, a rigid .cross-bar at the rear of the case part and having one end connected to the case part at one side of the armature shaft in a manner to prevent endwise movement of said bar and having its opposite end extending across the armature shaft atthe rear end thereof and unconnected to said shaft, spring means urging said shaft rearwardly, and a rotary screw member extending through said cross bar` and rotatable with respectito the crossbai'for adjusting said shaft endwise to vary the overlap of said rotor upon said wearpieee upon rotation of said screw member.

An apparatus of the character described comprising a diaphragm having a wear-piece thereon, an armature sha ft, a rotor mounted on the front end of said armature shaft for engagement with said wearpiece, a case section in which the rear portion of said armature shaft is jourualed, means for adjusting said armature sha ft toward the diaphragm to vary the over-lap ot said rotor on said wear-piece comprising a rotai'able member having a toothed -surface rotating with said member, und means en gaging the said toothed surface for frictionally locking the rotatable member in any position of adjustment while permitting a step-by-step adjustment ol a predetermined amount to thereby vary the over-lap of said cam upon said wear-piece.

An apparatus of the character described comprising a diaphragm having a wear-piece thereon, an armature shaft, a. rotor mounted on the front end of said armature shal't for engagement with said wearpiece, a case section in which the rear pol'- tion of said armature shaft is journalcd, means for adjusting said armature shaft toward the diaphragm to vary the over-lap of said rotor on said wear-piece comprising a rotatable member having a toothed surface rotating with said member, and means engaging the said toothed surface for fric tionally locking the rotatable, member in any position of adjustment while permitting a step-by-step adjustment of a predetermined amount to thereby vary the over-lap o l" said cam upon said wear-piece.7 and a casing cnclosing the said case section and having an opening through which the end of the rotatable member extends to thereby permit adjustment of said shaft without removing the casing.
