The invention relates to new and useful improvements in a looper actuating mechanism for an overedge sewing machine.
An object of the invention is to provide a sewing machine having a work support and a needle, with a looper mounted beneath the work support and movable above the work support for presenting a thread loop for the needle to enter, wherein'the looperis actu ated by a link directly connected at one end thereof to an arm supporting thelooper, and at its other end to an oscillating member for imparting endwise movements to the link, and wherein the link is so positioned as to move from one side of a line at right angles to the looper'arm to a position at the other side thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide a machine of the above type wherein the looper carrying arm is mounted in a bracket which is adapted to be shifted bodily substantially at right angles to the line of feed for the producion of various seam widths.
A further object of the invention is to provide a looper actuatin mechanism of the above type wherein thfimrcket for supporting the loo er arm is capable of angular adjustment or cooperation with needles of varying diameters.

The invention relates to overedge stitching machines wherein the needle thread is carried through the material adjacent the edge thereof, a looper thread is passed through said needle loop and is in turn enchained directly or indirectly with the next succeeding needle 100% above the fabric. The other end of the link it attached to an oscillating arm which is vibrated so as to impart endwise movement to the link. This oscillating arm for imparting movements to the looper, and the arm supporting the looper are so positioned that the link moves from a position at one side of a line at right angles to the length of the arm supporting the looper to the other side thereof, and thus it is that the best thrust advantage is obtained from the positioning of the parts.
