An important object of the invention is the provision in a structure of this character of means for simultaneously supporting a plurality of saw liles in parallel relation of such character that the saw iiles may be canted `to `present an angle thereofto the teeth of the saw in any desired position. i A further object of the invention is to pro- 4vide a :trame having means for holding saw .tiles in this manner and having further means whereby the angle of the liles with relation to the longitudinal axis of the frame may be altered while maintaining the parallelism and rotated adjustment thereof.

As` more clearly shown in Figure 3, these openings increase in diameter to ward the outer face of the plate. rfhe end member and the adjacent portion of the handle 19 are channeled in alignment with these openings, as indicated at 22, so that the tips oi' the tiles may extend thereinto. The pla-te 20 is adjustable transversely of the end. member in its channel and is held in adjusted positions by a springpressed and supported pin 23 extending through Athe upper wall of the channel and into a selected. one of a series of openings 2l1`formedin the edge of the plate; i i i j In the channel of the end member 12 is arranged an` assembly consisting of inner and outer plates 25 and 26 held in spacedrelation at their corners byl blocks 27 and at their lower edges by a strip 28, the upper edge oi which `is provided with obtusely angular notches 29. i Slidablebetween the plates is an oscillating bar 30, the lower edge of `which slides upon the upper 'face of the bar 28 and the ends of which extend between the blocks 27. `.The plate is `formed to provide shoulders 31 which will engage the upper blocks 27 and limit sliding movement of the oscillating bar. This oscillating bar has in its lower face notches 32 corresponding .in number and arrangement with the notches 29 and coacting therewith to receive the taner ends of liles F. By shitting the bar to the right or to the left, the angular position of the tile may be rotatably adjusted as will be obvious by an inspection of Figures 5 and Gf Means are provided to pern'iitthis adjustment comprising a spindle 43? journaled in the plates 25 and 2G and having secured thereto a pinion 3a in alignment with the oscillating bang() and coacting` with a rack formed in the upper sui-:face thereof. The inner end of this spindle projects inwardly of the inner plate and has secured thereto a milled operating head 3G. The plate 26 in alignment with the notches 29 of the bar 28 has formed therein openings 37 for the passage of the files in which the files may rotate freely. The walls of the notches flare toward the outer face of the bars 28 and 30 so that the lile is gripped and yet at the same time may be canted, as indicated in Figure 1. rIhe plate has a slot 38 permitting passage of the tangs of the files whilepreventing passage of the butt or larger ends thereof.
In the use of the device, files are inserted thereto by adjusting the end member 11 outwardly-or entirely removing the same and inserting the tang ends of the files through the openings 37 and notches 28. The tips of the files are then engaged in the openings 9.1 and the end member 1l adjusted to its proper position. The files will then be held in parallel relation and may be rotatably adjusted to obtain the proper angle of the cutting face of the file by rotating the milled head 3G which preferably has indicia coacting with a fixed indicator upon the frame to show the position'in which the files are disposed. If itis desired, as many operators desire, that y `the files be arranged at an angle to the frame,
this may be accomplished by adjusting the plate 2() untill the desired angle is attained.
Since it is obvious'that the structure hereinbefore set forth is capable of a certain range of change and modification without materially departing from the spirit of the invention, I do not limit myself to such sdpecific structure .except ashereinafter claime Having described the invention, I claim 1. lAsaw sharpening device comprising a metal frame designed to hold any desired number of files between theends thereof,
'means at oneend of the frame for simultaneously shifting the corresponding ends of all the files to thereby dispose the tiles angularlyy with respect to the longitudinal plane l of the frame and means for simultaneously canting the files while held within the frame. c 2. means'for adjusting one of the ends with rel spect to the body of the frame for clamping the files on the frame, `means for moving the files simultaneously in either direction on one vvend of the frame. and arranging said files A, ,angularly withrespect to the longitudinal plane. of the frame and means on the second endof the frame for simultaneously canting the files.

A saw filing apparatus, comprising a metal frame having handles on the ends thereof, and one of said ends being adjustable with respect to the frame proper, guide means bef 'c tween said endk and theV sides of the frame proper, lsaid ven ds designed'for engagement with cross sectionally V-shaped files which are equidistantly spaced and which are held spect to the longitudinal plane ol the frame,

A saw filing apparatus `comprising a metal frame having handles extending from the ends thereof and one of the ends adjustable with respect to the sides of the frame properand the said sides bein g of a less thickness than the ends, said ends having their inner faces channeled and being provided with elongated slots there-through, an apertured block received in one of the channeled ends and designed to receive the ends of equidistantly spaced cross sectionally V-shaped lilcs in the apertures thereof and which ends may project through the opening in the end of the frame, means for sliding the block on the end for determined distances to arrange the files angularly with respect to the longitudinal plane of the frame, means for locking the block from such movement, a casing in the channeled portion of the second V-shaped notches in the casing, a slidable plate in the casing arranged over the block, said slidable plate having notches disposed opposite the notches in the bar and the inner corners provided by the notches having V-shaped depressions, said slidable plate having a rack surface, a toothed wheel engageable therewith, a headed operating member for the toothed wheel arranged extcriorly of the casing, the outer element of the casing having an elongated slot therethrough in aline with the notches, the inner member of the casing having apertures therethrough and in a line with the notches and with the slot in the said end of the frame and said slots and notches designed receive the second cross scctionally V-shaped ends of Atiles theretlnough, as and for the purpose set forth.

A saw sharpening device comprising a frame having at opposite ends thereof means for receiving and holding the ends of parallel files, said means at one end ofthe frame being bodily adjustable with its engaged lile ends transversely of the frame, the means at the opposite end of the frame being :uljustable to simultaneously oscillale iiles engaged therewith about their axes.
6., A saw sharpening device comprising a frame having at one end thereof means t rotatably receive corresponding ends of a group of liles and means at the opposite end thereof receiving the files to maintain them in parallel relation, the last named means incuding relatively movable plates shiltable while the files are engaged therewith to oscillate the files about their axes,
