Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A1. A fiuid inking reservoir comprising two concentric cylindrical members one slidably fitted Within the other, each open at one end and closed at the other end and having minute orifices therein normally separated but adapted to be brought into registering position, the
open end of' the inner member facing the closed end of the outer member and one of' said closed ends having a filling aperture therein provided With a removable stopper each of said cylindrical members having a radially projecting fiange at its closed end, a cylindrical body of absorbent material surrounding the outer member and relatively stationari ly confined between said flanges, and means for moving one of said members in the diiection of its axis so as to cause the orifices therein to register with the orifices in the other member.
2. A fluid inking reseivoir comprising two concentric cylindrical members one slidably fitted within the other, each open at one end and closed at the other end and having minute orifices therein normally separated but adapted to be brought into registering position, the open end of the inner member facing the closed end of the outer member and one of said closed ends having a filling aperture therein provided with a removable stopper each of said cylindrical members having a radially projecting flange at its closed end, a cylindrical body of absorbent material surrounding tlie outer member and relatively stationarily confined between said flanges and means for moving one of said members in the direction of its axis so as to cause the orifices therein to register with the orifices in the other member, together with means .for holding said members with the orifices therein in either registering or non-registering position.
3. A fiuid inking reservoir and feeder for y the'inking rollers of hand stamping machines,
comprising a fluid containing member of tubular form slidably fitted within a similar tubular member each open at one end and closed vat the other end and each having minute orifices therein spaced apart longitudinally thereof' and normally separated but adapted to be brought into registering position, the
openV end of the inner member facing the closed end of theouter member, and one mem- Y ber having a filling` aperture therein provided with a removable stopper, a cylindrical body of absorbent material surrounding said members, a spreading roller in Acontact with said cylindrical body, an inking roller in contact with said spreading roller, and means for yieldingly holding said members with the orifices therein in non-registeri ng position, together with means for moving one of Said members back and forth in the direction of its axis so as to cause the orifices therein to register with the orifices in the other member.
4. A fiuid inking reservoir and feeder forthe inking rollers of hand stamping machines, comprising a fluid containing member of tubular form slidably fitted within a similar tubular member each open at one end and closed at the other end and each having minute orifices therein normally separated but adapted to be brought into registering position, the open end of the inner member facing the closed end of the outer member and one member having a filling aperture therein provided with a removable stopper, a cylindrical body of absorbent material surroundnY said members, a spreading roller in contact with said cylindrical body, an inking roller in contact with said spreading roller, and means for yieldingly holding said members with the orifices therein out of registering position, together with means for moving one of said members in the direction of its axis, so as to cause the orifices therein to register with the orifices in the other member, together with releasable means for locking said members with the orifices therein in registering position.
5. A fluid inking reservoir for hand stamping machines comprising telescopically connected members of tubular form each having minute orifices therein normally separated but adapted to be brought into registering position and each open at one end and closed at the other end and having at its closed end a radially projecting flange, and a series of rings of absorbent material surrounding the outer member and non-rotatively confined between said fianges, the closed ends of said members each having a filling aperture therein and removable stoppers for closing said apertures.
6. A fluid inking reservoir fior hand stamping machines comprising telescopically connected members of tubular form each having minute orifices therein normally separated but adapted to be brought into registering position and each open at one end and eloswl at the other end and having at its closed end a radially projecting fiangc, and a series of rings of absorbent material surrounding the outer member and non-rotatively confined between said fianges.

A fluid inking reservoir for hand stamping machines, comprising teleseopically connected members of tubular form each having minute orifices therein normally separated but adapted to be brought into registering position and each 0 en at one end and closed at the other end an having at its closed end a radially projecting flange, a series of rings of absorbent material surrounding the outer member and non-rotatively confined between said flanges, and manually operated means i'or eltecting movement of one of said members in the direction of its axis so aste cause the orifices therein to register with the orifices in the other member. y

A fluid inkin g reservoir for machines Vot the character described comprising telescopically connected members `of tubular forni each lhaving minute orifices therein normally separated from but adapted to be brought into registering position with the orifices in the other member and each open at one end and closed at the other end/and having at its closed end airadially projecting flange, a series of rings ot absorbent material surroundingthe outer member and non-rotatively confined between said flanges, and manually operated means :for adjusting one otsaid members in the direction ot its axis, said means comprising a lever tulcrumed on a fixed support at one end ot said reservoir and engaging a groove in a projecting end-portioii oit one oi' said niembers, and a spring acting on said lever tending to hold said members in relatively iixed positions With the apertures therein out of registering position. y
9. An inlring device i'or hand stampmachinos, comprising a series oi rings of absorbent material surrounding a fluid container consisting of inner and outer telescopically connected members oftubular form each having minute orifices therein, a spreading roller in contact with the periphery of said body, an inking roller in contact With the periphery oill said spreading roller, means for holding said members with their respective orihces normally in separated relation, andmeans for moving one oi said members in the direction of its axis so as to cause the oriiices there- "in to register with the orifices inthe other member; said container having a iilling aperture proviiiled With a removable stopper, and means jlior securing said rings together and to the container so as to preventrotation of one independently ott the other.

Ain inking device `orhand stamp machines, comprising a cylindricalbody of absorbent material surrounding a fluid `container consisting of inner and outer telescopically connected members ot tubular form each having minute orices therein, a spreadin roller in contact With the periphery oit sai body, an inking roller in contactwvith the periphery of said spreading roller, means tor holding said members with theirrespective orifices normally inseparated relation, means for moving one of said members in the direction oil its axis so to cause the orifices therein to register With the orifices in the other member, and releasable means for securing the movable member with its oi'ilices inregistering position together with spring-actuated means for yieldingly holding said members with the oriiices therein out ot registering position, said container having a iilling aperture provided With a removable stopper.

The combination, in a machine ot the character described, oit a .supporting` iraine having mounted thereon a reciprocating plunger carrying printing devices, a roller for applying inl; to said devices, and means for supplying ink to said roller; said means comprising a rcvoluble container consisting of hollow telescopically connected members each having minute orifices therein spaced apart longitudinally thereof; one member being movable relatively to the other nicmber, so as to cause the orilices therein to register with the orifices in the other member, or move them into non-ieg'stering position, a solid comparatively thick body olf absorbent material surrounding said container and revoluble therewith, and means for adjusting said movable member and holding it relatively stationary with the orifices in the two members in either registering position or in separated relation, together with means actuated bythe movements of said plunger for moving said printing devices `and said roller alternately into and out ot ink-applying position.
l2. In a machine oi the character described,
a supporting frame having mounted thereon a reciprocating plifingei carrying type or printing Wheels, a tluid inking reservoir comprising a revoluble container consisting ot' hollow telescopically connected members each having minute orifices therein spaced apart longitudinally thereof. and normally out oi registering position with the orifices in the other member, a solid body ot absorbent material surrounding said container `and revoluble therewith; one of said` members being movable relatively to the other member in. the direction ot its axis, so as to cause the orificestherein to register with the orifices in the other member, and means for holding said members relatively stationary with the orifices therein in either registering or non-registering position, together with means :tor receiving ink from said. reservoir and applying it to said type oi" printing vvheels, and means actuated by the move- `me`nts otl said plunger tor moving said type or printing wheels and said ink receiving and `applying means alternately into and out oi ink-applying position. p
13. A fluid inking reservoir for hand `stamping machines, comprising telescoliically connected members oit tubular forni, each having minute orifices therein spaced apart longitudinally thereot andnormally separated but adaptedto be brought into registering positionby longitudinal movement oi one member upon or Within the other and p each open at one end and closed at the other end and having at its closed end a Vradially projecting flange, and a cylindrical body of'absorbent material surrounding the outer member and secured theretobetween said flanges, so as to prevent rotation thereof independently of said outer member.
14. A fluid inking reservoir for hand stamping machines comprising telescopically connected members of' tubular form each having minute orifices therein normally separated but adapted to be brought into registering position and each open at one end and closed at the other end and having at its closed end a radially projecting flange, a cylindrical body of absorbent material surrounding the outer member between said flanges and means to-prevent rotation of said body independently of said outer member; one of said members having a filling aperture therein provided with a removable stopper.

A fluid inking reservoir for 'hand stamping machines, comprising concentric telescopically connected cylindrical members each having minute orifices therein normally separated but adapted to be brought into registering position and each open at one end and closed at the other end and having at its closed enda radially projecting flange, a cylindrical body of absorbent material surrounding the outer member and relatively stationarily confined thereon between said fianges, and 'manually operable means for eecting movement of one of said members in the direction of its axis so as to cause the orifices therein to register with the orifices in the other member.
16. A fluid inking reservoir for machines of the character described comprising concentric telescopically connected members of tubular form each having minute orifices therein normally separated but adapted to Y be brought into registering position with the orifices in the other member and each open at one endand closed at the other end and having at its closed end a radially projecting flange, a cylindrical body of absorbent material surrounding the outer member and relatively stationarily confined thereon between said flanges,one of said members having a filling aperture therein provided with a removable stopper, and manually operable means for adjust-ing one of said members in Athe direction of its axis, said means comprising a lever fulcrumed on a fixed support at one end of said reservoir and engaging a groove in a projecting end-portion of one of Vsaid members, and a spring acting on said lever for yieldingly holding said members in relatively fixed positions with the apertures therein out of registering position.
17. In a device of the character described, a fluid inking reservoir comprising hollow inner and outer telescopically connected members each having minute orifices therein spaced apart longitudinally thereof and normally out of registering position with the orifices in the other member one of said members being adjustable longitudinally of the other to bring said orifices into registering position, and a series of rings of absorbent material surrounding said enter member and secured thereto so as to prevent rotation thereof independently of said outer member; one of said members being provided with a filling aperture.
18. In a device of the character described, a fluid inking reservoir comprising hollow inner and outer telescopically connected members each having minute orifices therein spaced apart longitudinally thereof and normally out of registering position with the orifices in the other member one of said members being adjustable longitudinally of the other to bring said orifices into registering position, means for yieldingly holding said members with said orifices out of registering position, and means for holding said members with the orifices in registering position; and a body of absorbent material surrounding said outer member and secured thereto so as to prevent rotation thereof independently of said outer member; one of said members being provided with a. filling aperture and a closure therefor.
19. The combination, in a machine of the character described, of a supporting frame having mounted thereon a reciprocating plunger carrying printing devices, and an oscillating frame actuated by said plunger and carrying means for applying ink to said devices during the reciprocating movements of the plunger said ink-applying means comprising a rotary ink-container consisting of hollow telescopically connected members each having minute orifices therein spaced apart longitudinally thereof and normally out of registerin position with the orifices in the other memer, means for moving one ofl said members in the direction of its axis, so as to cause the orifices therein to register with the orifices in the other member, together with means for holding said members relatively stationary with the orifices therein in either registering or non-registering position, a body of absorbent material encircling said container, and means for imparting a slight rotary movement to said container during the reciprocating movements of the plunger.
20. The combination, in a machine of the character described, of a supporting frame having mounted thereon a reciprocating plunger carrying printing devices, and an oscillating frame actuated by said plunger and carrying means for applying ink to said devices during the reciprocating movements ofthe plunger; said ink-applying means comprising a rot-ary ink-container consisting of hollow telescopically7 connected members each having minute ori ces therein spaced apart longitudinally thereof and normally out of registering position With the orifices in the other member, means for moving one of said members in the direction of its axis, so as to cause the oriices therein to register With the oriliees in the other member, together With means for holding said members relatively stationary With. the orifices therein in either registering or non-registering position, and a body of absorbent material encircling said 10 container'.
