. ATTACHMEH T FOR DISHWASTIING' MACHINES.
Application lflled Apri 11, 1928.? Serial m. 269,152.
The primer such blades will force the water through the 4 bottom of the receptacle as well as through the sides thereof. for eflectively washing dishes'which are arranged in the receptacle.
' In addition to thisthe bottom of the recep tacle is formed with spaced series of annular upstanding ribs, whose outer walls are inclined towards the sides of the body and whose inner walls are inclined toward the center of the body, and thus afford effective rests and supports for the rims of the dishes that are received therein, while further the body has arranged therein a mesh compartmenfifor the reception of silverware,.knives,
forks, etc. a
, With ,the above recited objects in view, the invention further resides in the construction, combination and operative association of arts, -such as set forth in the following escription, illustrated by the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings: 4
Fi ure 1 is an approximately central longitu inal sectional view through the tub portion of an electrically driven washing ma chine having my improvement arranged therein, the latter being also in section.
Figure 2 is a top planview of my improvementl My invention is especially designed for use in connection'with that type of electrically operated washing machines known in the market as the Maytag. This machine includes a clothes receptacle or tub 1 .that has a substantially concaved bottom 2. The bottom, at the center thereof, has upstanding spaced inner and oilter tubular sleeves 3 and 4:, respectively, there being received centrally through the inner tube 3 the shaft 4 that is turned by the motor. The shaft 4 passes through a bearing that closes the top object of my present inven- VlSlOIl of means for convert-' of the inner tube and resting on or slightly out'of contact with this bearing there is a bushing member whereby the shaft is connected tothe outer sleeve 4. The outer sleeve has fixed thereon the hub 5 of the ag tating blades 6. The blades'are curved both longitudinally and transversely. My improvement comprises a mesh body that is I broadly indicated by the numeral 7 In the showing of the drawings, the body is of substantially rectangular formation, the edge at the top thereof being rolled for the reception of a reinforcing wire 8, and this wire 8 is formed with extensions. 9 that project angularly through the corners of said mesh body 7. The body-7 is formel with a, mesh bottom 10. 'This bottom is dished inward- 1y, as at 11, the said dished portion being arranged over but not in contact with the a e tator blades 6. The offset elements 9 resting on the top of the tub 1 support the body 7 in the tub and hold the said concaved bottom from contacting engagement with the agitator blades 6. i
The bottom of the body, atithe center thereof, is provided with a round opening that issurrounded by an upstanding tubular portion 12 that surrounds but is out of contact with the outer sleeve 4 of the clothes 'washing.macl1ine,- the tubular portion 12 being of a length corresponding the depth of the body.
The dished or concaved portion 11v of the body, on the inner face thereof, is formed with spaced annular series of ribs" Each of these ribs defines an outer wall 13 that is directed angularly toward the side of. the body andan inner wall 14 which is directed angularly toward the axial center of the body. Thus each .of the series of ribs provide gripping elements for engaging the rims of dishes which are inserted therein.
is providedwith a compartment 15 which is of a finermesh than that of the body proper and .this compartment is designed for the- The body 7 at one of the corners thereof,
loo
With my improvement it WilL be noted that I convert an ordinary clothes washing machine into a dish Washer; The construction :is extremely simple,'cheaply manufactured and easily arranged in or removed from the body or tub I of the washing machine.
.Havingdescribed the invention, I claim: A means for converting a power driven clothes Washing machine into a dish washer,
'in which the tub of the clothes washing machine is centrally provided with a vertically disposed rotatable" shaft, a sleeve surrounding the shaft, connection between the top of th'e'shaft and the sleeve and said sleeve having fixed thereon a hub having agitator blades, said means comprising a mesh; body.
having an 'o'pen top, the rim of the body being rolled, a reinforcing wire in the rim, said wire having angle portions extending therefrom to rest on the top of the tub and to support the mesh body in the tub, the
