Description

TOWEL 'DRYING A'rncimauw FOR SY'IOVES Filed Dec. 8, 1927 Attormgy Patented June 18, 1929.
1,717,772 PATENT OFFICE.
MAIBEL A. GREENWALD, 0F MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI.
TOWEL-DRYING- ATTAGHMENT FOR STOVES.
Application filed December 6, 1927. Serial No. 238,138.
My present invention relates to a towel dryer and has for an object to provide an attachment adapted to be arranged in position upon the upper edge of a stove so as to extend over the burners or heating surface thereof and upon which a towel or other soft article may be placed for the purpose of utilizing the heat from the stove for drying the same.
The invention comprises a frame within which is mounted the section of foraminous material with the end of the frame having hook extensions provided thereon providing an attaching means for the frame enabling the device to be supported in a substantially horizontal position over the heating surface of a stove whereby to dry the articles which may be placed upon the upper surface of the foraminous material.
A still further objection is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture, which may be easily and quickly secured in drying position upon the stove and which is otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the special construction and combination of the various elements comprising the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein:
Figure l is a perspective view of the stove showing my invention in operative position thereupon,
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device removed from the stove and Figure 3 is an end elevational view thereof.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the invention comprises a substantially rigid frame 5 having substantially rectangular formation and of any suitable dimension which may vary with respect to the size of the particular stove upon which the same is attached. Upon the frame is attached a section of foraminous material such as screening indicated at 6, each end of the frame having hooked extensions 7 formed thereon by means of which the device may be attached to the vertically disposed back 8 of a stove which may be of any conventional type, such as the gas stove, shown at 9 in Figure 1 of the drawing, the dryer extending forwardly in a substantial horizontal plane above the heating surface 10 of the stove.
When arranged in a position as indicated 1n Figure 1 of the drawing, a towel or other cloth article may be placed upon the upper surface of the screen of the dryer in order that the heat from the stove may be utilized for drying the same.
If desired the section of the frame and screen at each end of the device may be bent angularly upwardly and downwardly as indicated at 11 whereby to form a pair of ridge sections extending transversely of the frame with the upper edge thereof disposed above the horizontal plane of the intermediate section of the device so that when the towel is placed upon the dryer the intermediate section thereof may be suspended above the surface of the intermediate section of the dryer. Furthermore by forming the dryer in angular sections in this manner an increased drying area is provided which enables a towel of a length greater than the length of the heating surface of the stove to be disposed above the heating surface so that all sections of the towel will be exposed to the heating action thereof. 4
lVhile I have illustrated the invention as adapted for use in conjunction with gas stoves, it is apparent that the same may be equally well used for drying purposes upon the stoves of other types. The hooks 7 enable the device to be easily and quickly placed in position upon the stove or removed therefrom when not in use.
It is obvious that the invention is susceptible of various changes and modifications, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to which I am entitled.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
In a towel drying rack, a frame of substantially rectangular configuration, a section of foraminous material fitted within said frame, said frame having its longitudinal side edges bent upwardly and then downwardly and outwardly to provide a pair of oppositely disposed transversely extending side sections, and hooks carried at each end of the frame and extending at one side thereof for securing the rack in a substantially horizontal position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
MABEL A. GREENWALD.
