IMPROVEMENT IN CARTRIDGE-BELTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- -l7l.639, dated December 28, 1875; application filed August 30, 1875.
bad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this Specification, in which- Figure l is a plan view; Figs. 2 and 3, longitudinal sections, and Fig. 4 a view in detail.
The invention relates to a belt which is fastened about the waist, and employed to carry cartridges.
It will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claims.
A represents a cartridge-belt, which I have divided into sections, so as to receive in each five cartridges, B, the button-hole a being introduced between each two sections, to allow a pistol holster, bayonet Scabbard, swordstraps, and game-bag to be readily attached and detached. a are slots made nearly to the extremity of belt, so that, by passing the ends of strap 0 through the slots and then back, both the buckles D and clips E may be readily fastened, and the belt adapted to persons of different size, while the usual tongued buckles may be entirely dispensed with.
The mode of fastening buckles and clips by reversing the end of holding-strap and inserting them in loops (1?, formed by the bars between'the slots, is found in practice to be Very convenient, as well as entirely eficctive.
above and below, thus giving a greater bear-1 ing on the cartridge afterits insertion.
It will be perceived that with my construction the clip E will grasp and hold the cartridge with its muzzle down, the charge being.
held firmly in the shell by the wad, that rests upon the tips at lower end of clip, the same being turned up inside of clip to support the cartridge and charge.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new isl. A cartridge-belt divided into sections, be-
tween which are made button-holes a, as and i for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with reversed strap 0 and buckle D, of a belt provided with slotsa loops a and clips E, as and for the pur- DAVID TAYLOR.
