APPARATUS FOR BATH ING PURPOSES Filed July 25, 192? Patented June 4, 1929. I I f i GUSTAV ADOLF BBUGGMANN, OF ZURICH, SWITZERLAND.
APPARATUS FOR BATHING PURPOSES.
Application filed July 25, 1927, Serial No. 208,336, and in Switzerland June 9, 1927.
This invention refers to a new distributor member for use with a bath tub and capable of being connected to the exit pipe of a vacuum cleaner. By means of the new distributor member every owner of an electric vacuum-cleaner can procure the amenities of an air-bubble bath at a cost of about 15 per cent of a usual air-bubble plant theblower of which is actuated by the pressure of a water plant.
The new distributor member comprises an oblong fiat hollow body open at one end, and having one side provided with perforations, an open ended hollow member tapering to a pipe having at its open end the same cross-sectional area and shape as the oblong hollow body a wide connecting member permitting connection between the distributor and the blower exit of a vacuum cleaner, means to detachably secure said hollow bodyand said hollow member together, said securing means being symmetrically arranged relative to each other to permit said parts to be secured together in a plurality of positions, whereby the device can be used in a ][plurality of selected relations to a bath tu In the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a bath tub showing the distributor member in two positions for use. Fig. 2 is a plan of the distributor member in one of its positions for use. Fig. 3 shows details.
1 designates a rectangular, metallic, hollow fiat air distributor member capable of being placed on the bottom of a bathing tub 2. One wall of this distributor is provided with a large number of fine apertures 3. To the right open end of the distributor an open ended socket piece a is detachably mounted to the proper distributor 1 by means of angular flaps 5, 6 and screw bolts 7. A washer may be inserted between the distributor 1 and the socket piece 4c. The flaps 6 of the socket piece 1 have slots 8 permitting riding of the socket piece 4 on the bolts 7 fixed to the flaps 5 of the proper distributor. v
The socket piece 4; is tapered to a pipe and has at its open end the same cross-sectional area and shape as the main portion of the distributor member. To the tubular end of the socket piece 4 the extension tube 9 of a vacuum cleaner is removably connected. The non-perforated wall of the distributor 1 carries movably four supporting arms 10 pivotally mounted to the distributor by means of pivots 11. I
If it is desired to take an air-bubble bath, the distributor 1 is placed upon the bottom of the bathing tub 2 as shown by misted lines in Fig. 1, whereby air is driven by the vacuum cleaner into the water, the air bubbles rising through the holes 3 of the perforated wall of the distributor turned upwards.
If it is desired to use the device as a water distributor, the bolts 7 are released and the socket piece 4 is removed. Hereupon the air distributor 1 is taken away from the bottom of the bathing tub 2, the arms 10 are turned outwards into the position marked in dotted lines in Fig. 2, the distributor 1 is turned over and finally laid with the arms 10 upon the top of the bathing tub 2.
Then the socket piece 4 again is put over the bolts 7 the nuts of the latter are'tightened, and the. tube 9 connected to the water conduit of the house; the device is now ready for distributing water. With this distributing device not only the head and the shoulders may be rippled over as with a known bathing hose but the whole body of the person lying in the bathing tub on the back or on the venter. Furthermore sprinkling of the bathing room with diffused water will be prevented, since all the water is taken up by the bathing tub.
If desired the tube 9 may be connected to the vacuum cleaner by the corresponding hose, so that the water will be discharged irom the distributor by air pressure.
What I claim is 1. In a distributor member for use with a bath tub consisting of an oblong fiat hollow body open at one end, and having one side provided with perforations, an open ended hollow member tapering to a pipe adapted to be connected to the blower exit oi a vacuum cleaner and having at its open end the same cross-sectional area and shape as the oblong hollow body, means to detachably secure the open ends of said hollow body and said hollow member together, said securing means being symmetrically arranged relative to each other to permit said parts to be secured together in a plurality adapted to be moved to extend laterally of of positions whereby the device can be used said body to support said body on the top of in a plurality of selected relations to a bath the tub. s
tub. In testimony whereof I have affixed my 5 2. In a distributor member as claimed in signature.
claim 1 and in combination therewith of rods pivoted to one side of the hollow body GUSTAV ADOLF BRUGGMANN.
