AARON J. HULL, OF STERLING, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 71,568, dated December 28, 1875; application filed December 3, 1875.
"To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, A. J. HULL, of Ster- State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Wash-Boards;
and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to the ordinary sheetmetal wash-board; and it consists in providing the sheet metal with diamond-shaped projections, each bounded by diagonal grooves or depressions, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a ront view of a wash-board embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section of the sheet metal through the line a: m, Fig. 1.
A represents the zinc or other sheet metal used in wash-boards. This metal plate is crimped to form oblong diamond-shaped projections B B having the longest diameter running transversely across the board, as shown. Each projection B is bounded by a diagonal groove or depression, 12, as shown particularly in Fig. l. The upper corner of each diamond B, where the grooves cross each other, is raised higher than any other part of the same, while the corresponding lower corner is the lowest part of the diamond.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A wash-board of sheet metal formed with a series of raised diamond-shaped projections, B, and a series of narrow diagonal grooves, 11, between the projections which cross each other, substantially as set forth.
