FIREPROOF RECEPTACLE FOR FILMS AND OTHER COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS Filed Oct. 20. 1926 Mln esse: fw@ W2! Patented June 4,A 1929.
ALroNs VAN Rossum, or rnaNnionT-oN-THE-MAIN nscHEnsHEIr/r, GERMANY.
FIREPROOF nnonr'racnnY non FILMS AND OTHER COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS.
. Application filed Gctober 29,1926, Serial No. 142,988, and in Germany October 273, 1925. n
provide an improved receptacle wherein the kclosure therefor is so constructed `that ingress of lire into any of its compartments,
either from the'eXterior of the' receptacle or from an adjacent compartment, is eiiectively minimized. .l Y Another object is to provide a door for the several compartments of the receptacle which embodies a single closure common to all of the compartments, and an individual closure for each compartment with means on .the single closure constituting a wall which wilL prevent tire from passing between adjacent compartments. Y
The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detailed description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawings, hereto attached, forming `a part of. the speciiication, Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section of the whole receptacle, Figure 2 is an enlarged `vertical longitudinal section of the middle part of the Y receptacle and door and Figure 3 shows the y part-ments A' and B are sepa 'ated by .theV
` Lio same but with thevdoor bent by fire.
The receptacle l ot the present invention is shown as provided with coniipartments A and B for the reception of films and other Vcomlnistible mate 1ials, it being understood that as many of these'compartments may be provided as is found convenient. The comhorizontal wall@` and are closed by a single door 3 common to said compartments,
ci A
and the framed oi.' which ts into the .re-` cessed Vportions of the outside walls 5 of channels for the'escape of gases from the' v apartments,`las indicated by the arrows in Figure l.` The apertures 8 and l0 arel closed'v by screens l1, whichprevent the escapeof flames from thecompartments and at the same time permit ,thelgasesto iiow therefrom. l f 1 Y The outer edge of the wal-l or partition 2 is provided with av groove containing a tiller la'nd said groove is opposed to alike Y` groove in t-he stilel of .the closuref in which is disposed a'liller` 18. `The innermost wall of thek closure is formed with-'the oppositely extending perpendicular Vflanges V12 'andfl which project, respectively, into the grooves in the partition .2 andthe stile 16 and combineto provide a horizontally extendingfire wall which prevents the'pasl.
sage of vfire from one compartmentinto anY l adjacent one. c
As shownl in Figure 43, should the 'outer' wallsfof the closure 3 become warped, due to heat fromthe exterior of the receptacle, the inner wall 4 and the iia'nge l2 will still l have a tendency` to remain in their normal" positions andthereby eectively close'l communication between the adjacent compart-` ments'Arand B.- f i I am aware that various alternations and modiiications of this device are possible without departing from the spirit of ymy invention, and I do not therefore desire to limit; myself to the exact form .of construction andarrangement shown anddescribed.
l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent u l. A receptacle for combustible materials including a plurality of compartments with a Vdividing wall therebetween, a door for u the receptacle including an outer closure common to jsaid compartments, a fire wall on said outerl closure recessed withinl said dividing wallwhen the closure is'in 'Closing position, andan inner closure for each compartment carried by said outer closure.y Y
2. A receptacle for combustible materials including'a plurality vof compartments,.a door. for the receptacleincluding an outer closure common yto said compartments, and an inner closure for each Compartment carried by said outer closure, said outerand setrelative to each other. Y
3. A receptaclefor Combustible"materials rhaving-anl intermediate partition dividing thesame into compartments, a door for the y receptacle including'- an Vouter closure common to said compartments andan innercloinner closures having apertures thereinv OE-y sure for each compartment carried by said Vouter closure, and a flange on said outer closure projecting into agroove formed in said 'partition and constituting a ire'wall between said compartments.V
1l. A receptacle for combustible materials having an inner intermediate partition dividing the same into compartments and formed with a groove therein, a door for the receptacle including an outer closure common to said compartments and having a stile provided with a groove therein, and alsoy having an inner wall provided with oppo- `sit'ely extending ilanges projecting into the grooves in said partition and stile and cone stituting a ire wall between said *compart-` ,ments, and inner closures carried by said outer closure and each individual to one vof said compartments.
signature.
5. A receptacle for combustible materials having an inner intermediate partition dividing the saine into compartments and formed with a groove therein, a door for the receptacle including an outer closure cornmon to said compartments and having a stile provided with a groove therein, and also having an inner wall provided with op` Vouter closure and each individual to one of said`compartments, and a iller in each of said grooves engageable by thelianges projecting into the grooves.
In testimony whereof I have aiiiXed my ALiioNsvAN RossUM. A
